I'm sure that's a dealextreme case. The previews on their site won't show the apple logo but the actual product has it.

Anyway, though I don't want to use a case I think I'm going to need a slipcover to protect it for the year before reselling it. The bookbook case looks a lot better in person than the concept makes it seem so I'm going to pull the trigger on it.

My phone totally locks up like every other day. Most of the time it won't unlock. The screen just stays off.

Also, I was making sandwich yesterday and took a picture of it. Took about 15 seconds or it to open. Guess you can make a sandwich in the amount of time th iPhone camera takes to boot too!

I have a gelaskin that I quite like but the only case I notice with an open back are the bumpers and i take the case on/off for running and the rubber is just not doing it.

Are they any decent not too expensive cases?

Yeah, exchange that. I've had a 4S since launch, and it's never locked up. No camera issue either.

I don't feel like its a problem with the device. Maybe I'm just too used to Android, lol.
The camera thing has only happened a handful of times. You can't expect it to work absolutely perfectly 100% of the time.

Though now that you've planted that seed of doubt.. what does everyone else think? I mean, the phone is perfectly fine, just occasionally it won't unlock for a few seconds. Or the camera will take a bit of time to initialize. I just figured these were common hiccups.

if you push the home or sleep button and the screen does not come on immediately, you have a bum phone or there’s something really wrong with your iOS installation. I have never had a problem with this in almost 5 years of iPhone ownership.

maybe, MAYBE, you might want to try reinstalling iOS from scratch on it (keep a backup of your current config around in iTunes to be safe) before going to an Apple store but that might just be a waste of time.

Seems like an overreaction. I'll keep an eye on it though. Thats definitely definitely happened occasionally, but it doesn't scream to me that the phone is broken. Is iMessage history backed up when you do a full wipe/reinstall? I don't want to restore from a backup obviously.

I think "every other day" might have been an exaggeration. I'm gonna keep strict notes on when this does and doesn't happen over the next few days and see if its just a perception problem or if its real. Also, whenever I lock the phone the lock sound doesn't play until after the screen is off. I remember back on my first iPhone it would play as it turned off.

Does anyone happen to know of a website for jail breaking like that jailbreakme site where you just go there and click a button? I'm on vacation and really would like to be able to tether my iPhone 4s to my iPad and I'm damn sure not paying AT&T for that ability! I'm on 5.1.

My contract is finally up so I can do a free upgrade now. However I'm starting to think going against updating to a 4S from a 4 and just waiting for a 5 when that comes.

I was disappointed when there wasn't a new model with a new bigger display and I've yet to see anything grab me from the 4S except for the bigger memory and don't mention Siri because it's pointless in the UK without places support. Anyone think I should upgrade or wait?

Not possible right now.

Is there some occasional problem with apps where they don't detect they're using a Retina screen? Firstly the problem with Chu Chu Rocket not scaling at all (while having Retina support, apparently) and I also just bought Time Crisis 2nd Strike on the basis that a post-release patch utilised the Retina screen, only to find it still runs in standard res on my 4S.

Guys what's the best in ear headphones for use with the iPhone, up to say a 100 bucks?

Klipsch Image S4i.

And DR3AM, those were pics I posted of my case. It is from DealExtreme. I can find you the link when I get home if you need me to, I'm just on my phone and can't at the moment. Try going through my post history, you could find it there.

EDIT: Link

When you set a timer with Siri it should put the clock app in your quick access panel.

My gosh, ever since I've started using my 4S caseless, I use it a lot more, even just to wrap my fingers around its steel band, glide across the smooth glass, to just admire it. I never appreciated how gorgeous the device is and how perfectly it fits in the hand without an added layer of silicone, and now I find any tiny excuse to bust it out. The battery is not happy :-p

Yeah I really don't understand cellphone cases. The only excuse I won't roll my eyes at is people who want to make sure the resale value is as high as possible. But even then..

That's the only reason I'd buy one. I went 100% caseless with my 3GS and I think it eventually had an adverse effect on how much i'd use it--the scratches and large crack it accrued over time bummed me out.

I am a paranoid cuss and have a case on my 4. But I also think a good case adds personal flair to your phone. I alternate between all the Think Geek Starfleet themed cases on mine. Although I do think the red one is truly cursed since I have shitty days at work when I use that one. But the yellow command case is sexy with the black phone.

Not sure what to call it...I guess a holster style case? Where its safe when it's not in your hands clipped to your pants, but still get that sexy case-less feel when you're actually using it. Best of both worlds!

GAF. Finally got my iPhone 4S last Friday. It's a gorgeous little phone, and I'm very happy with it. It's a whole new world to explore, coming from an older non Samsung smart phone. However, I don't know what to do. My battery drains a little bit too quick in my opinion. Best result I have gotten was about 2 hours of usage, and 17 hours standby. I've been reading alot about these battery problems, but I'm in doubt here. I've turned 'Location Services' off, turned 'Push notifications' off, turned WiFy syncing off, turn off Apps running in the background constantly. Sigh. Even tried soft ressetting, hard resetting, turning the SIM security code lock off. But that can't be normal, getting a new phone and having to switch everything to 'off'. Even did a complete 'new iphone' reset, screen brightness is not really high.

Any suggestions? Should I have it replaced?? :(

My 4 is caseless. I have a few dings and micro scratches on the back. But who cares. I'm not necessarily selling it to anyone. It's a phone. You get one every 2 years anyway...

In settings select system update (or something similar) then update it, let the battery drain to nothing and then charge it fully.

Judging from today, real world use of this gets me about 9 hours. I'm going to have to scale back on something because that's not enough. :/

I was including stand by time but sure take it the ridiculous, more unrealistic way. :(
If that's standby, something's either wrong with your phone or you were playing a lot of games during the time period. I can get four days of standby with Internet browsing before having to recharge. Two full days using the phone a lot for random crap.

I suspect my settings are causing the mediocre battery performance but I don't know if it's capable of more than a single work day's use at maximum efficiency. If I pull that off, I'd be more than impressed though. Pretty much will guarantee my next phone is another apple product.

Yeah I took my case off about a month ago.

The build quality of the 4S is so much better than the 3GS.

Having a case on a 3GS is understandable. The build quality of the 3GS was cheap and felt light.

I would still understand if someone prefers to have a case on their 4S but I now prefer it to be caseless. It has the perfect weight to it and overall it just feels well built.

I'm getting fantastic battery life these days.

I never understood the battery life complaints. My 4S has been great in terms of battery and I've had it since day one.

But, I do have my e-mail set to fetch so maybe that could be why. I don't know.

I'm only getting about 4 hours of use before I have to recharge my phone. This is with pretty much all location services off, Bluetooth off, brightness at 40%. Ive updated my phone and let the. Battery drain and everything. Seeing people get 7-9 hours is crazy to me.

Have you tried not restoring from a pre-update data save? Was having the same issues until I but the bullet on that. Guess there was some quirk in my saved data.

On my 4S with iOS 5.0.1, I typically get 6-7 hours of usage time with an additional 1.5 days of standby. I usually charge it every other night. I'd estimate that time to be broken down to about 40% 3G web browsing, 40% wifi browsing, 10% games (tiny wings/angry birds type games), 10% misc. No music... so all reported usage time is with time with the screen active (at ~40% brightness with auto brightness on). The only things I have shutoff are Push email and Bluetooth.... oh, and iCloud-specific-services since I'm still on mobileme and have yet to convert (but all my mobileme syncing services are active.) Also, my AT&T 3G coverage is typically 4 out of 5 bars when browsing on 3G.

The only problem with my phone is that my vibration makes a distinct buzzing noise that is rather annoying and kind of cheap sounding, but I'm hesitant to exchange it in fear of getting a "poor battery" one. And also it sounds as though the vibration noise issue is relatively common and I'm likely to get a replacement with the same issue. Who knows. Overall I'm extremely happy with my 4S (came from a 3G).

Hm

Good to know my usage isn't an anomaly. It's not bad, to me it equals a whole day's worth of use but I'm certain I can squeeze out another hour or so. All I really do is listen to music, read a book, text, email, and do some light browsing. Fairly basic stuff. There will be times where I'm running late or I need to go somewhere without recharge so any more time would be great.

Wow that's crazy.

That's android-like (lol)

No, but really, I can get about 10 hours of use before I have to charge it again and my brightness setting is at about 90% with most of my location services on.

I'm afraid I'm not quite understanding what you mean. I only recently got my phone, and I've done the 5.0.1 update. I haven't done any restores yet.

Ok thanks for your reply first of all. Last night I totally drained it, until it shut itself off. Then charged it fully too 100%, so we'll see what happens today. i will post the results, whenever the battery empties again.

I can't say enough how much I like this phone. I own a Mac, but the design of the iPhone is really great. It looks really sexy. I don't want to troll Samsung devices, since I have been using them for over 8 years till i got this iPhone, but the Samsung GS2, I dunno, it just looks clunky or something. My girlfriend owns one, and I just don't like it.The iPhone looks sturdy, made of quality. It is heavier than for example the S2, but maybe that's what it makes it feel so full of quality. It's not some plasticy thing or something. What a great phone. Also being able to use things like Whatsapp is a breeze. I had a non smart phone before this, and texting is such a chore. Loving my iPhone!!! :D :D :D
