And the team up 50 beat the other team playing in the conference championship game, right?

Eh, just cancel the game this year.
 
lol UCLA would have a better chance at a bowl if they didn't play (and lose) in the conference championship game. This clusterfuck is what the NCAA gets for their bullshit sanctions on USC.

What's funny is USC is basically paying the price for a lot of other teams cheating. USC wasn't even cheating -- it was a rogue agent paying a player under the table and trying to get him to LEAVE, not help USC.

It was a pure "statement" punishment, pure and simple. Only problem for the NCAA was that there were a lot of worse problems going on elsewhere, and they couldn't hand down a harsher punishment than USC's without getting into death penalty territory, or damaging the product too much.

Oh god, what a beautiful perfect day. Doesn't get better than curbstomping UCLA 50-0, the biggest beatdown since 1932 or whatever year they just showed. So fucking sweet.

Oregon gets just about everyone back next year (although James might be gone).
USC get a lot of people back (Barkley?)


Who else in the Pac 12 should contend next year? Cal maybe? OSU and UW should improve...

USC loses Matt Kalil next year. That's a bigger loss than I think a lot of people realize. If I'm Matt Barkley, that is one of the big things weighing on my mind with the decision to stay or go. The OL isn't going to be quite as good.

The impression Barkley gave at the beginning of the year was that if he had a good year he would enter the draft. If he ends up as a Heisman finalist, I don't see much reason to stay around.

I don't remember Barkley getting hit against us. We didn't have Stuckey or Jordan but we play so many people on D that we should've had some kind of pressure. It was a clinic by the SC O-Line.

Also, I saw you guys lose some Defensive line and Galippo but otherwise, the team seems pretty intact. When does the Pac 12 release schedules?



We lose Paulson, Tuenei, Pleasant, Asper, Gildon, and Boyett really.


Gildon (didn't play the last 5 games for some reason and was our best corner)
Paulson (has a better backup but he's got phenomenal hands)
Tuenei (great blocker but was never a great downfield threat)
Asper (best lineman but more an effort guy than a talent guy)
Pleasant (best known for 'tackling' Michael Dyer but he's an anchor)
Boyett (underachieved severely this year - still great but not like he's been)


Feels like a good year incoming, particularly on defense. Lots of guys took lumps this year but our linebackers will be the best they've been since the Gang Green days. Our receiving core will be considerably stronger too.

I have no problem with USC having to face punishment for the Bush fiasco. I just happen to believe the punishment handed down was ridiculously excessive. After all the investigation, there was no findings of any direct wrong doings by the administration or coaching staff. The dealings were between Bush/his family and an independent wannabe agent. USC should have known what was going on, but this pales in comparison to what went on at places like Ohio St, Auburn, Miami and Penn St. Do you think those schools' punishments (if they even get one) will be comparable? This is why it was bullshit. The NCAA was trying to look all high and mighty by making an example of USC, only the stupidly and naively didn't think other schools were doing shit that was just as bad, if not worse.

Other schools unfairly skating hardly means USC was punished too hard. It means the other schools were punished too little.
 
I'm off the Kool-Aid.

Stanford's win, coupled with Bama's win and the loss of all media momentum (Gameday will be in Atlanta at the SECCG rather than in Stillwater) means that the best we can hope for is a Big 12 title with a win over OU.

I'm cool with that, but it'll definitely be bittersweet to see us at #3 in the final BCS standings assuming we win.

Maybe if Bama beats LSU 9-6 this time and we stomp Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl, we'll get a shared MNC?

True, but the NCAA, unknowingly at the time, set USC at the standard. If what happened at USC warrants 2 year bowl ban + loss of scholarships, Ohio State, Penn State, Auburn (if they ever cared to investigate, which they don't) and Miami should be wiped from existence. This is why Trojan fans feel it's BS. If those schools stake and aren't punished by the NCAA, that literally does mean that USC was punished too hard.

I asked him for how we cheated at football but for some reason nobody ever offers an answer :(

There was a time when finishing 3rd in the polls meant something. Hell, I remember years my team finished 6th and I was jazzed.

TJ McDonald is the only key starter we lose on defense off the top of my head.

I think the OLine could be better as a unit next year but losing Kalil hurts.

Rhett Ellison graduating is probably the biggest skill position loss on O. We don't have much in terms of FBs right now. Still with Woods, Lee, McNeal, Farmer, Grimble, Carlisle, and Telfair we have a lot of weapons.

Cam Newton was mysteriously ruled ineligible for a day but i'm sure he didn't do anything wrong.

Also it's pretty much confirmed at this point that his dad tried to get money out of Miss St., which was against NCAA regulations regardless of if he ended up going there, and because his dad was acting as his representative, and would make him ineligible, but whatever.

Really? Can you at least sum them up for me, then? I mean, since they're all over the place, it should be really easy for you to post them up real quick-like. I really just want to know what we did to cheat at football, because the NCAA statements say it was a rogue agent paying Reggie that we "should have" known about, but didn't.

I guess I'm just not seeing how one player's parents getting a nice house from a wannabe agent ex-con from outside the program gave us a competitive advantage on the field, and would thus be "cheating."

So come on, help me out here.


Edit: To be clear, I agree with basically everything Ninja Scooter said. We got hammered because the NCAA wanted to send a message, and then it turned out -- oops -- that a lot of other programs were doing a LOT worse shit. Nobody outside of Westwood really believes the severity of USC's punishment was deserved at this point.
