Usually the Game Informer covers for games at the VGAs don't start until after the show airs, and this would be out before hand, but it is possible that it is a game at the show if you're thinking "Super Sony Bros."

The magazine is usually out on the first or second Thursday of the month. The January issue will be released in December.

As for the "most surprising cover of the year bar", these are their reveals so far this year:

January: Tomb Raider 9
February: Elder Scrolls 5
March: Battlefield 3
April: Saints Row 3
May: Mass Effect 3
June: Assassin's Creed II-3
July: Darksiders 2
August: Dishonored
September: Borderlands 2
October: Zelda 9
November: Transformers 2
December: Rainbow Six 6

Not to be a stickler for details, but wouldn't the January cover by the most surprising cover of the year by default? :P

Maybe it's not that January's cover is going to be surprising, but the rest of the year is going to be so terrible that it makes this one look surprising

Edit: Whoops, forgot that January's issue would be in December lol. So nevermind

Also, it's probably Sony Smash Bros

The cover is just a blank white cover with no text on it.

Also, I chuckled that every cover reveal so far has been a fucking sequel.

Probably Sony Smash Bros, but there's a tiny chance it could be a game like Beyond Good and Evil 2 - already announced but would still be surprising.

Hard to beat the Rainbow Six reveal, that was actually surprising for me at least. I'm drawing a blank right now to what else could possibly surprise me in video game reveals.

Has to be FF7

A sony smash bros. wouldn't have the same impact as Nintendo unless is some kind of super crossover dream battle among different third party companies

Kollar is claiming that this could be the most surprising cover of either this year or next:

How facetious he's being is up to you to judge.

I'm betting money on Sony Smash Bros.

I actually don't think that's it, because someone like Kollar would probably know better than to call a game whose existence is now one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry "surprising." But perhaps I'm just not cynical enough.
