The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

I'm sure this has been asked, but if I have only wired internet at home, will there be any way for me to hook this thing up to the internet? I'm starting to consider buying a Vita but without wireless internet at my house or having a 3G provider I might not be able to get it online. I have a PS3 if that matters.

You won't be able to play multiplayer without WiFi, but you can transfer purchases from the store from your PC or PS3.

Posted by Wario64 in the PS3 Firmware 4.0 thread. This update mainy deals with content management stuff the PS3 can do to Vita data. Is this a sign of some of the security stuff the Vita will do?

That makes me think it's using Bluetooth to connect the two, should be much better than Remote Play was in the PSP.

Huh, how exactly?

Maximum speed of WiFi 802.11b - 11Mbps
Maximum speed of Bluetooth 2.0 EDR - 3Mbps

I don't know about you but I'm not seeing how bluetooth could be in anyway an improvement here. Especially not when 802.11g is an option.

WiFi for the video stream and Bluetooth for the controls.

It's just the registration that's diferent. It's the same if you use PC remoteplay since you can't plug in ur PC through USB to automate the registration.

I just checked this out and I really like the screen protector - the button form template they use for placing it is a great idea! It looks like it will make it a breeze to get the screen protector placed perfectly. I'll be picking this up day one with my Vita...
If it's really that easy, I think I'll pick one too. Always had a protector on my DS screens, but putting one on the PSP was beyond my patience.

Still wondering which case/pouch I should pick. I like the one with which you still can play, mostly because it's the only small one that's hard. The only let down is lack of place to put game carts, which can be annoying when going on longer trips. Oh wait, the battery won't last that long...

He confirmed that the Remote Play feature on the Vita can be used to play any game that is on the PS3, from anywhere else. So you can jump on Facebook, message your roommate to tell him to put in Arkham City, turn on remote play, and play from across the country. How well this actually works is anybody’s guess, but it is definitely a step up from PSP’s broken remote play.

Oh god yes.

Wait. What? Seriously? This is not what I imagined when they said remote play. I remember trying to play Bionic Commando from the PS3 to the PSP, and that was the last time I tried that ever again. If this works even decently, that is amazing. (If true, that is)

It works same as Onlive. Connection lag between Vita and PS3 is crucial for playing fast paced games.

If it works well enough, this is the killer feature for me. On the other hand that may lead to less Vita games sold if people use it to play their PS3 backlog.

Which probably also means that while in theory you could do the cross country thing, in practice it's more practical as a "Hey I wanna play that game but not go over to your place" thing.

I'll just post this here...

I attended the Vita event in Nagoya last week here in Japan and I got in on the Nagoya video report, I'm the token gaijin. :) They even posted it on my birthday, how nice of them. lol Bring on the abuse!

That's pretty cool. I only watched it to find you....

On a side note: Why do Japanese sites usually upload low quality video when their average internet speed in the country is ridiculously fast?

Their UI video is worth highlighting.

Looks so slick.

They show how you can edit the pages, move apps around etc. How to change the page background. More of the index page too.

They seemed to have a bit of multitasking going on there too, between Wipeout and a few other apps.

That looks great. I promised myself I wouldn't, but I'm actually tempted with the 3G model (assuming the "contract" is reasonable).

I don't know what you think you're seeing there, but Bluetooth pairing doesn't rely on such numbers. Pairing is time/proximity based, with plain text names solely for human-readable disambiguation purposes. System pins, if enabled, are only 4 digits.

I want this thing to support Wifi G (and be Wifi N ready for downloads/PS4 awesomeness). I don't know if a second dedicated connection for controls isn't more hassle than it's worth. Bluetooth range is shorter than Wifi, and the "epicentres" of service may not even be the same (Wifi connection to router, BT connection to PS3). Interesting idea though.

This is such an incredible gift for me! I get motion sickness playing many games on the big screen (Arkham Asylum, for instance, makes me motion sick if I play it for more than 30 minutes at a time) but never when using a handheld - remote play will actually let me play SO MANY games on the Vita that I was unable to complete on my PS3!!

A friend asked me what's the cheapest import site where he can pre order the Vita.
He can't find anything cheaper than 390€. We live in Italy.

Any advice?

Label me insane. Just pre-ordered a Japanese Vita from Play-Asia with Uncharted and Marvel.

YOU ARE INSANE!

yeah, me jelly :(

It's throwing money away, but seeing as how I was going to get the first edition bundle with at least the same two games, the difference is under $300. That's a LOT, but I work an easy side job once a month for an hour or two and get $135, and I know I'll get the rest in presents/bonus cash. So I'm gonna splurge.

Are they still available?

At that ridiculous mark-up price? Yeah, you better believe it, LOL.

NCSX actually sells the unit cheaper, but I had a P-A coupon so the price difference ended up being the same with the shipping factored in. Plus P-A will get it earlier and they don't charge a $35 cancellation fee if I decide to come to my senses.

By all means. :)
Be sure to post everything in the sure to be 'new Vita owner impressions thread'.

I splurged already and bought a nearly $500 music box set.
I gotta wait the 2 months!

Gotta wait on the console. That upcharge is...just a bit much.
I did preorder a game from Play-Asia though.
Dream Club 0 Portable lol
Will be odd to have software and no console to use it in yet.

I've got a question related to making vita games.

- Can i buy the SDK easily?
- For how much etc. ?
- How will the game distribution work, will it be as easy as making an iphone app?
- Where can i go for help regarding programming a game i'd like to be made. I can do lots of stuff except programming lol.. Can someone else program a game that i designed. Is there a community of that kind that could help me out. I've got cash..

Sorry for bothering you but, related to this

Do you know if NCSX is the cheapest solution also for european countries?

Let's see if I get a raise over Christmas. Otherwise, I don't give a damn. ~pets launch 60 gig~

These questions will depend on if you're part of an established studio, or an indie outfit. If the later, may I suggest looking for PlayStation Suite?
