Is it me, or am I the only one that would like to see a game adaptation of The Book of Mormon?

I'd also be down for a game adaptation of Team America: World Police.

So can we get a tally of all the reaction posts that only mention that Obsidian games have bugs and therefore Obsidian is a terrible developer?

You'd think we'd be used to it EviLore, you'd think we'd be used to it.

Every-single-Obsidian announcement and OT and its all people talk about... people who haven't touched a game since KotOR 2 got rushed out for season years ago talk about it still! :(

And I could be mistaken now that some time has passed and the dust has settled a little, but didn't it do less than spectacularly sales-wise? I don't think Sega is terribly eager to fund a sequel.

Yeah, it didn't do great. It didn't completely bomb but the majority of its sales were after price drops.

The problem is, a LOT of those people who bought it post price drop loved it, which means it could actually do better as a sequel. Problem with new IPs, if it isn't an instant million seller we will never get to know apparently...

Can't believe Two Worlds 1 got a sequel and AP will not (not a shot at TW2, a shot at TW1)

Weren't Obsidian looking for people experienced with Flash for a licensed game? Or am I remembering wrong? That would probably mean this isn't an open world if true.

They flat-out said they weren't going to pursue the IP any further as recent as about a month after the game came out. It's super dead at this point.

Thanks to a collaboration with THQ and Obsidian, Parker and Stone are writing the script, performing the dialogue, and overseeing the development of South Park: The Game. Unlike the cash-in Acclaim titles from over a decade ago, this ambitious project is a full-scale RPG for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. As the new kid in South Park, it'll be up to you to make friends and defend the town from a wide range of threats. Be sure to check out our January issue for all the details, as well as an interview with Parker and Stone themselves.
So Obsidian isn't even doing what they are good at?

Yeah, some one could do that. But when considering that this isn't a scenario like people freaking out over an 8/10 review and when considering that there is actually evidence to support people not really liking Obsidian that much in regards to janky gameplay (Alpha Protocol, New Vegas on Consoles, KOTOR 2), I don't think it will have its intended effect.

Look how long it took for LucasArts to put some of their catalog up on Steam and you have your answer.

LucasArts is run by idiots.

I own, like, 10 Star Wars games on Steam and there are others I already own and never double dipped on. Kotor II is just... missing for no reason.

Will wait before I react.

This could be very good, or it could be a complete clusterfuck.
Obsidian doesn't get the benefit of the doubt with me any more.

In a very conspiracy-esque sense, that novel in between KOTOR II and Old Republic makes it seem like they want to keep KOTOR II a secret.
But they're probably just lazy.

lol Kotor 2 had more depth and customization than Kotor 1.

They were both very easy games though.

Obsidian's specialty isn't actually dialogue or descriptive writing. What they do better than any other studio is understand how to construct a story/narrative within a game and use the combination of visual cues, music, writing, and even gameplay to push the narrative along.

There's a lot more to writing than just the actual words that will come out of the mouths of the characters. How one presents that dialogue, how it flows with the gameplay itself, and how you connect various narrative arcs together into a completed product is a huge part of that. Because Parker&Stone aren't specialized in that but are very bright creative minds there's no doubt they'll be working closely with people at Obsidian in creating this type of story.

If you look at New Vegas what made it special was the way they used vignette style storytelling to create memorable individual experiences while also tying them into the happenings of the world at large.

That cover, with the reflections of all the characters in their fantasy gear, reminds me a lot of Costume Quest and how the battles were like a direct video capture of a child's imagination.

This could be cool.

You know what's crazy? To be able to say this and have a straight face:

I am more excited for a South Park game than any game Bioware is releasing.

More like evidence to support that they don't like CRPGs.

The best CRPGs of all time were released buggy as shit. All of them. BG 1-2, Fallout 1-2, Torment, Arcanum, ToEE, Bloodlines, Gothic 2, Morrowind, The Witcher 1-2, and Obsidian's Mask of the Betrayer and New Vegas.

All of them. Polish is inversely proportional with ambition in CPRGs. Dungeon Siege 3 isn't buggy. Bring on the fucking bugs, I say.

When I first saw the thread title, I was like, "...wat?" But the more I think about this, the more interested I am. Consider me hyped.

Would be infinitely surprised if they requested to work with Obsidian for just that ^.

I agree!

Awesome I am a South Park fan the show has been on television for a while now and still holds up. I can’t wait to see what Matt and Trey do in the gaming world.
