The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Today I went to this store where they had a bunch of demo 'fake' Vita models that are basically the real plastic outside but impossible to turn on/off, and with a sticker on the screen. Anyway, I played with it a bit, pressing the buttons and all that, and they felt great.. but the analog sticks are damn small. Like, really.. if you think about it for a second and look at the pics you will realize it, but they are barely about twice the size of the normal buttons, and that's quite small. Other than that, the screen was huge and overall felt 'expensive' and well done, almost like the Apple hardware.

The only thing I'm not 100% sure about are the analog sticks anyway, the 3DS slide pad felt better, but then again I only 'tried' them for like a minute.

3DS slide pad did not feel better to me.

Maybe they have reasons, remember the E3 05 fiasco

I'd rather have CG videos of games coming years later than logos and a whole lot of nothing.

these buttons.. are they smaller then the Move ones? or about the same size? and what is the pressure like. like a normal pad or again like move with a 'click'?

I'm sorry, but what are you talking about? You praise the Vita's home screen, but then turn around and bash Apple's when they're essentially the same thing save for the choice of squares over bubbles.

I'm not arguing in any way against that the Vita's OS is beautiful when it comes to functionality. In fact, every video we've seen thus far indicates this. My 'issue' is that the OS itself is ugly. I just do not like the bubble design at all from a pure aesthetics perspective. Gofreak mentioned jaggies when talking about how he likes the OS's design, so I took that to mean the visuals and aesthetics. I heavily disagree that it is visually great, let alone the best released for a game console.
Not to sound like a huge ass, but I your talking about the UI. (user interface) not the OS. You won't be able to see the Vita's OS unless your studying lines of code.

I would think gaffers would know the difference between a OS and a OS's graphical interface.

Man I wonder how long Persona 4: Vita and Disgaea 3: Vita are going to take to get localized in the US.

That's not my biggest issue. IMO the lack of proper resistance on the stick is a far worse problem (it's still in the nitpicky category).

They are pretty loose. I just kept hitting the X button when I wanted the analog stick. It'll grow on me over time once I actually have the system but it was confusing for a while.

How is it compared to the home consoles? PS3 sticks are perfect in regards to resistance IMO.

I'm not someone who buys a platform for one year of games. I will buy a Vita for the games coming out in 2012, and the games I hope will come out in 2013, 2014, 2015, etc. For Vita to get to that point it's going to need to sell well, and have good sellers. Unfortunately, there's no system selling software announced. Sure some might say Call of Duty, but I have my doubts on if that even exists, let alone will be some big push for hardware.
I'm not so sure that franchises that sell well on other platforms would automatically guarantee Vita sales. Even big names like Cod, AC or GTA would not sell the consoles by themselves (and I think that we can reasonably assume that these three series will be on Vita in some form sooner or later).

I can't think about anything that could have the same effect that MH had for PSP in Japan or Pokemon titles for Nintendo handhelds worldwide. And both series bore on hendhelds. Assuming that a pokemon game will never be released on Vita (there are rumors of a big pokemon surprise at the next jump festa, but chances are obviously near zero), only a new franchise could have the same effect IMHO.

You are right about that. But these games will still sell millions on the VITA. GTA already sold millions on the PSP.

Yes, undoubtedly, but the topic was games that will guarantee sales and therefore long term support for the Vita. I think that the GTA games were successful because there was already a quite big PSP userbase and there weren't many other good, western oriented games based on a big franchise.

An initially exclusive GTA sold over a million on the PSP, but when people realized it would be quickly ported to the PS2, no one bought the second (at least not as many). And no one bought the third, either, on any platform as near as I can tell.

Given that GTA is from Take Two, which is very aggressive about putting its traditional handheld titles on iOS, I can't think that won't happen to any GTA the Vita might get (if it even gets one)

HYPE!

wouldn't be surprised if two are ports of Samurai Western, Shinobido, and a version of Wizardry or Class of Heroes.

off the top of my head, their PSP games were ports of WotS1, 2, Shinobido off-shoot, all the Yuusha games, Akiba's Trip, Tenchu 4, patchwork heroes, and Gladiator Begins. They supported that system pretty well and right off the bat there are like three games for the Vita.

actually, the wildest game they could make is a sequel to Deka Voice as Deka Touch. I never had a chance to play Deka Voice because it used voice commands and was Japan only. But you can do much of the same stuff with touch screen instead.

I sometimes wonder if this is what really killed the PSP here. You port everything off and people will just wait and get the game on the platform they own, and eventually no one cares to get the system because they'll just wait for a console port. Then when games that are exclusives come that have no chance of going elsewhere they get no sales because anyone who would've cared stuck with their PS2 or even PS3.

Could see that happening with the Vita actually, but more unique features could make that harder, and it may even be that if they get enough of the popular iOS/Tablet games people will stick with the Vita to play those on a system better capable of handling all kinds of games.

GAME have a preorder bonus instore. £25 deposit gets you a pair of ok looking playstation headphones, a £5 PSN voucher off a vita game, and 3 months free access to 'MR frobisher' (no idea)

it's been a while since i asked this, so maybe someone has an answer now. has it been stated how and where apps will be stored? if i have multiple cards, will i have to install netflix, facebook, and twitter on all of them? or is it somehow stored on the device?

how about games? If you cheap out and buy a 4/8GB card now, and prices come down in the future, can you have say 1-2 games on one card, and some more on the other and swap them over easily?
