I'm not entirely sure you can infer anything from a single snapshot in time without context. The dude might have been twice as heavy a year ago, or maybe he wandered out of his room and his flat-mate was throwing a party he didn't know about. The casual bashing of fat people seems to be the socially acceptable target for people's generic loathing and mockery now that racism isn't acceptable.
