The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

If it's not being sent by courier then it will take years and you'll pay customs fees that will bankrupt you.

If it's being sent by a decent courier like FedEx, DHL or UPS, then 3-5 days if there are no delays due to holiday rush.

looks like Japan HMV uses EMS, should I have problems with them? taxes?

The offer is good, but I'm undecided.

+ We'll save 2 months of waiting (but we'll have to wait for games)

- We can have some X/O problems in interface or some games that will check the firmware.
- Having japanese menu that we'll have to switch to english each time that we make a factory default?
- Maybe future problems because we'll have to stick with japanese firmware?

I'm very tempted I must say by HMV, but we don't really have any idea about their stocks, do we?! I guess that if it was out of stock, it would say so, but I don't really want to find out on D Day that they don't have it in stock.

I already pre ordered somewhere else, but getting it on HMV would be like 150 dollars cheaper.

You'll have to get used to O as confirm, that's it.

I wont have a memory stick so theres not a whole lot I can do with it for 2 months.

Super Stardust Delta looks perfect!

I was concerned initially because the shots of the game looked a little iffy and I wasn't too sure about the framerate, but watching that video makes me calm. I'll be buying that in a heartbeat. Portable, playable Super Stardust that looks every bit as good as the PS3 version.

I could buy this only and be content with the Vita, haha.

i shop from HMV often. if they dont have stock, their website will say Out of Stock.

Don't know if anyone posted this yet, Ill make a thread if you think its thread worthy):

Sony has hinted in the past that downloading games on the Vita will be a cheaper option than buying them off the shelves. The scuttlebutt from a recent Sony event is that the savings could be a dramatic 40 percent for ditching the box.

According to Thrifty Nerd, Vita games will be capped off at $39.99 at retail. Downloading a game at the same price would only cost around $23, however, saving you a pretty penny by going digital. Many gamers gasped at the Vita's spendy memory cards (4GB: $30, 8GB: $45, 16GB: $70, 32GB: $120), but these savings, if true, could soften that blow.

While this prospect is exciting for prospective Vita owners, keep your expectations low until we have official confirmation from Sony.

It's not surprising given Japan has a tonne of DD discounts on Vita games, but you should make a thread to shut up all those "Hurr durr Vita games am going to be $49.99 and $59.99 bro" people, and hey the device could use some positive news after recent events, haha.

Just watched a preview of vita on UK satellite show Playr.
LBP looks so amazing and the screen apart from the glossy finish looks beautiful.
I will be buying this at release just don't fuck this up Sony? Stand out from the crowd please.

Yup, HMV definitely seems much cheaper than importers, but I'm still sticking with P-A and UPS for delivery...no way I'd use anything other than Fedex or UPS during this time of year. Would like to see confirmation that they'll have units in stock and that they won't be sending out messages stating that they won't ship outside of Japan later on.

Any news on in-store demo units in Japan?
You mean if you can actually play Vita in big stores like Yodobashi or Bic Camera? If yes, the answer is no, you can't.
On the other hand, I saw two Vitas which you could touch and stuff, but they weren't turned on. Bigger than I thought, don't know if it'll feel good in my hands yet.

If you're asking about the preview events, the next weekend one will be held in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, Yokohama and Roppongi.

Sorry i meant to say that we're going to be saying on a hotel there the first 2 weeks of jan.

Just any recommendations of any store close or where should i go to pick up the system when over there.

Ah. Well, there's a big Tsutaya in Shibuya, you can go there. They also have used games for all systems (including the retro ones) if you're interested. Other than that, I think there are Yodobashi and Bic Cameras in almost every bigger part of Tokyo, so you'll be fine. If all else fails, just use the Japanese Amazon, pay via the convenience store and have the system delievered to your hotel. They have memory cards and games for 1000 yen less than the other stores.

Just for the record, shipping via UPS, FedEx, EMS, etc. will still get you pay customs 99% of the time. You will either have to pay up front, or 7-14 days after delivery you will receive another invoice from a courier company with details about import tax.

The only way to avoid import tax is to have Vita shipped my small company e.g. VG+, who will on purpose mark down the package value. In most countries that's illegal, so no way big retailers will do that.

Do we have any US release dates on the memory cards? I ordered my Vita from Amazon with release date delivery but Im going to need a card on launch day too. I guess Ill have to get one at Gamestop unless they hit store a few days early.

Customs will be... what? Around 20% of the price?

False, I ordered a $700 Headphone Amp and portable DAC from Japan shipped via EMS and never payed a cent for customs or taxes. I've also ordered $400 in knock off clothing from Asia shipped via EMS and never had to pay customs. This could be due to the fact that I live in Canada and they May have different rules regarding customs

Id love to but Im not crazy about the case, Id probably never play Little Deviants, I actually want an 8GB card (or larger if the cheaper digital prices are confirmed), and I only want a Wifi Vita.

The bundle is a good deal though if you add each item individually. If I get a 3G Vita, am I required to sign the 3G contract or can I just use wifi with no worries?

You can use wifi no worries, I'm getting the 3G as a just incase feature.

Hmmm thats good to know if I change my mind. Right now, Im trying to keep it as cheap as possible.

Wifi Vita - 250.00
Game - 40.00
8GB card - 40.00
Case - 25.00ish
Total - 355.00

1st edition bundle (comes with case, 4GB card) - 350.00
Game - 40.00
Total - 390.00

So thats kinda where I am. Still debating on if the price is worth it considering I have no idea if the case included with the bundle is any good and if Id be content with a 4GB card at first.

I figure I'll be good with a 4gig card for a bit, I'll never put music or pictures on the card, and maybe only keep a game or two on there at a time plus saves.

By the time the Vita comes out, I'll have finished all my Xmas games and I'll trade thm all in for Vita games, save a little cash that way.

Same with me. I had originally preordered the wifi model. But I was worried that some of the games that utilize GPS would not be compatible with that model.

When the early release 3g bundle was announced, I changed my preorder over to that model. I do not intended to get 3g service for my vita. It will be there should I change my mind later.

I too want a larger memory card but will probably wait a while to see if the prices come down on them. I haven't seen the case offered with the bundle yet. I love the neoprene sleeve I have for my psp. I may pick one of those and some screen protectors up not long after release. I just found out the screen is plastic. I don't use a protector on my psp but the plastic has me worried.

Remember, first edition comes with a game as well. You could probably sell it off right away if you wanted.

I'm going to be there 9 days will amazon comply with the order sooner than that?
