Operation Rainfall just tweeted that Xenoblade Chronicles is the top anticipated game on GameStop.

Pretty sexy.

Excellent! I hope it can stay up there and get lots of pre-orders!

Put a few bucks down on a GS preorder yesterday. I should have waited to order it directly from Nintendo, but... I'll probably get my hands on it faster this way :/

Super glad to hear about this. I'll probably drop a full preorder whenever I go by a Gamestop. Hopefully the red CC Pro comes out with it, and gets bundled in some way; it'd be a nice excuse to give them more money for localizing it.

I think it's pretty clear Nintendo did not intend to announce this last week; I'm sure the cover art is in progress and was scheduled to be completed, approved, and available for the intended announcement date (probably middle of the month).

I bet they're pushing to speed that up, though.

I put my $5 down this weekend but not before the young clerk saw that I was preordering an RPG and said "SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM" to me.

Never change, GameStop.

Lately my experience with brick and mortar stores have been increasingly either become like this or simply having to wait longer and longer for help after I've asked for a game. I walked out of Kmart last week because I was left waiting for so long and I made sure the guy saw that I was leaving as well. The issue with trying to get Mario Kart 7 after that was my last straw with them. Every time I try to give local stores a chance I keep getting reminded of why I stopped going to them years ago and why I prefer buying from Amazon.com or just picking up orders from Best Buy. However since Best Buy has moved their game pick up from the customer service section but to the actual game section I see that becoming a problem in the future.

So I'm going to stop worrying about physically getting games on the day of release from stores and just go back to ordering them all from Amazon.com (even if they don't have release day delivery) or just online in general in the case of Xenoblade. So I'm going to just deal with getting the game a few days to a week after it's NA release. I really wish Amazon was selling this though. So I'm either going with Nintendo.com or just GameStop.com and having it delivered to me instead of me picking it up at the store. I'm just tired of the bs I have to go through at times.

I have no qualms pre-ordering from GameStop on special stuff like this. My local store is great: the manager greets me by name when I walk in the store, asks what I'm looking for, I tell him I want to pre-order Xenoblade Chronicles. There's a little banter (the other guy at the counter admitted to importing the game) and I walk out about 2 minutes later without a word breathed about other games or deals.

I understand that's completely out of the ordinary for the average GameStop, which is why I keep going back to that location.

Thinking I might pre-order this from Nintendo.com when it goes live later this month.

I'm not even into RPGs...I keep buying them but never get past the first hour or so...but I just feel like this is a landmark title that is worthwhile owning.

Unless they take another note from Europe, and allow fans to vote on the cover art for the game!

That was just for the reverseable cover.

They really should have SOMETHING. Having a blank box in the NUMBER ONE spot is just painful to see. Not visually (even though it is), it's painful knowing that people are visiting the site and just ignoring that as opposed to seeing that red sword behind that horizon and going "Hmm, that looks interesting, let me click dat."

Wasn't there a NA-specific logo earlier in this thread? Photoshop onto black background, done.

I picked up a copy of Nier for a friend's Christmas gift and reserved this game, the girl there told me how she was excited Xenoblade was making it over and that "Nier is a great game"... then I'm like "yeah I'm buying it for a friend, I played it and it was awesome"... she then told me she has all the music from the game on her phone. So I got lucky with that Gamestop interaction... when I go it tends to be 1/3 clueless teens who know barely anything about games, 1/3 20-something girls who know a lot about games, or 1/3 stereotypical Gamestop fat guy with beard :P

I don't go into Gamestop anymore for a variety of reasons but I would always get a guy with a neckbeard. I always wondered if I just lucked out or it was in their corporate policy.

I was curious one day what Gamestop would recommend me get my cousin's kids who were 6 and 7 at the time on the DS. So I asked three different clerks there. None of them had a DS nor did they have recommendations. I was amazed.

If you like JRPGs, get ready for awesome.

Get ready for great music!!!

All I ask is that if they're going to shill to me, is to use a sliver of common sense. If I'm in picking up an obscure DS or PSP RPG, don't try to sell me God of War or Gears of War.

Pretty much.

When I bought Nier (or possibly some other niche game), the guy asked if I wanted to preorder Modern Warfare 3 or Catherine.

I commended him on covering the widest possible range of games.

I'll probably drop a preorder on Xenoblade after work.

Man, I must have the best Gamestop because I've never experienced any of the horror stories I hear.
The employees are nice, they actually play the games, they don't force GI subscriptions or Edge Cards down my throat. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I would like to hold off and wait until December 19th... but I should probably pre-order it at Gamestop just to guarantee I do get a copy. Along with Tales of Graces F.

It's never really that bad. People just overreact to the Gamestop pre-order question. It's like if somebody went online and posted about how much they hate McDonalds because they asked if they want fries with their order. Who cares?

I would rather have that than a condescending attitude because of my gender. Yes, dude, I am actually shopping for myself.

GS tries to stiff arm me into their rewards program every time i go there. It's a bit annoying, but the employees probably get paid on commissions for those, so I can't fault them entirely.

Nah it'd be like if you went to McDonald's and ordered a Big Mac if they asked you if you wanted a salad with that. I know it's the policy of the store not the employee's fault, just please pick relevant games and actually know what you're talking about.

Run along now dear and go buy some shoes! Let the real men handle these hear Jay-Arr-Pee-Gees with them effeminate girly boys.

"So you're buying this for your boyfriend or brother?"
"Nope, it's for myself."
"Really, you play games?"

I can only imagine all the interesting conversations you have, lol.

I'm fine with the following.

"Is that all you'd like today? or "If you're interested we are having a three for two deal today on used games.". That's fine and normal sales stuff I expect. That's all I want spoken to me outside of "Hello welcome to GameStop. Is there anything I can help you find today.". If I say no to the last one then I want to be left alone until I ask someone for something.

However when someone questions my title selection or tries to push a certain game or product when I've done nothing to even indicate I care about said product I get really annoyed. I can understand it's their job to push things more so then any other store to a point. However my patience for this crap has become very thin. If I'm left waiting to long or it's clear employees would rather talk with their friends then help a customer (me) that has indicated they'd like some help I leave. Usually I'd just walk out after putting back some things I might have bought but lately I've been making sure they see me leave so they realize they've lost a sale. The gender problem is one I don't have but I can easily imagine that it would annoy at best and anger at worse a lot of girls/women. Common sense and some proper sales training should stop that from even taking place though I feel.

Hopefully xenoblade will do for the rpg market what final fantasy 7 did for the market in 1997.

The rpg market needs to become popular again, there should be a rpg that will sell more than a gta or a call of duty game.

And no not skyrim, although bethesda deserves that.

As awesome as that would be, the limited release pretty much guarantees it's not going to get the ad campaign that put FF7 over the top. It's an interesting test for word of mouth, and maybe Last Story will get that sort of push if Xenoblade shocks the world, but if Xenoblade sells 2.5 million in North America it'll be a goddamn miracle.

So anyone in Canada able to preorder from EB Games/Gamestop yet? I went 0-for-Halifax this weekend...

If Xenoblade sells 100,000 in North America it'll be a goddamn miracle.

Even 30,000 is being generous.

I had a customer come in and pre-order Xenoblade at my store and we discussed Xenoblade, Last Story, and Sakaguchi in general.

I mean. GRR GAMESTOP DUMB

They don't get paid commissions. They get to keep their job.

I'd say its probably more along the lines of "Sell this many a month or we are firing you, or cutting your hours."

I can say from personal experience that the stores that are awesome are actually encouraged to be more awesome by the shitty stories everyone reads.

I worked at Gamestop all through college, and while one of the stores I worked at was total crap, the other one I worked at just after graduation was fantastic. In fact, all of my current friends (including my current roommate) were guys I worked with at Gamestop all those years ago.

We were a great store and remembered our customers' names and helped people find the game they wanted, not the game we wanted them to play. But honestly, there aren't lot of stores out there like the one I worked at. We had a great boss, great staff, and we all hung out together outside of work.

Sure some Gamestop employees are cool people, but the vast majority are annoying, abrasive, intrusive and generally not conducive to a pleasurable customer service experience. Hell, despite working for gamestop for five years, I stopped shopping there once all my friends found jobs elsewhere. I still refuse to buy games there.

How do you like it there? I hear it sucks.

It was a fine job in college. I enjoyed it, and made a lot of great friends. It's about as terrible as a job can get if it's your career, though.

Anyone preordering the game would be able to preorder a copy for me? I'm from Australia, but gamestop's online store is a joke.

Did the game not come out in Australia? Wouldn't you run into some region problems if you imported from the US?

So Lost Odyssey, a much inferior game, will sell 10x as much in America? I know it's on the 360 and Wii buyers don't seem to be flocking to jRPGs but c'mon, really? If that ends up being true I don't really know what to say other than :/.

Lost Odyssey was actually marketed pretty well by Microsoft. NoA is guaranteed to just send this to die. Especially since it's only at Gamestop to begin with.

I'd be curious to find out how Final Fantasy IV/VI sold on the SNES way back, because honestly I imagine that's what Xenoblade's sales figures will be closest to.
