well there's the religious aspect to it too. i thought all the people who worshiped hylia before being sent up to the sky would have also been known as hylians.

Does the game show this? IIRC the game shows that the people worshiped the Triforce but not Hylia herself.
Demise talks about humans praying to Hylia.

well there is a giant fucking statue of hylia on the place where they all live and they have a ceremony/ritual where someone dresses up as her.

Wait, now thinking back, that wouldn't make any sense. If he's exists in all timelines, and Link kills him in the future, then he wouldn't exist in the past. It would defeat the point of Ghirahim wanting to go back in the past to revive him. You sure Fi even said that?
It doesn't take much thought to see the paradox of Demise being destroyed in the past and the adventure never happening to begin with.

Time travel can work well if the story follows its own internal mechanics.
Like look at the fruit thing, Groose tells Link that the Sealed Temple sure could use a tree. Link changes the past putting the fruit tree there, Groose and Future Impa act like the tree has always been there. The Thunder Dragon in turn never died because you give him the fruit while the crystal was on, thus he's not dead in the present and is around when you get the final song piece.
But the game picks and chooses. Zelda going back in time and becoming amber always happens, it's meant to happen, it's predestined. You can see the amber behind the broken sealed grounds doors in your first visit to Faron. But then Link can change the past and see the results in the future, that's cool. But then you have Link destroying Demise in the past with no result in the future. The Isle of the Goddess is still returned to the surface along with the Triforce and Demise still died in the present.
I don't have a big problem with it since it's Nintendo and Zelda and I don't expect much out of them story wise, plus the game is real good. Same goes for something like Back to the Future which uses every single type of time travel device without having any total consistency.
Someone mentioned how the time gates follow San Dimas time like Bill and Ted, that could work, but it doesn't really change anything about what's done in the story.

And the Demise that Link faces isn't the past version of Demise, it's a new version that Present Ghirahim crafted from Zelda, his power, and whatever amount of Demise he could get through the seal. Demise 1 as a whole is still sealed away and still going to escape.
I really liked that the story actually challenged the effectiveness of the Triforce. Link made the proper wish and it did what it was supposed to do, but other forces in Hyrule (like time travel) almost let Ghirahim succeed.
Also, it's interesting how Demise is like Zelda/Nintendo's own Galactus. Everyone that looks on him sees a different shape. Maybe we only see Ganondorf because we were expecting it. D:

That was probably the most epic thing I've ever seen in Zelda. He absolutely destroys him!
This really is one of the best final bosses ever. Now that I think about it, I wish they had added one more form.
Gameplay wise, I wish they had added one more form, but in terms of style and epicness, this battle was PERFECT.

So you get the Triforce at the end. You're clearly able to access it via falling through the sky after killing the Imprisoned. Why, pray tell, do you not wish for a f'ing laser gun? The technology clearly exists (Beamos) and it would certainly wipe Ghirahim's smug grin off his face. Imagine the Bokoblin horde fleeing in sheer terror as you mow down their compatriots.

Does the area around the sealed grove become the Temple of Time in OOT? I imagine so because both the Master Sword and Triforce are there. So what is the Temple of Time in the desert? Why in TP is the Sacred Grove and the Temple in the same spot not really near Hyrule? Is that the same sacred grove in LTTP?
Just trying to track down where the Master sword moves to and from since its forging in SS is confusing me.. :/

OoT's is in a vastly different location; either the original was moved there and back between the Lost Woods, or the OoT Temple of Time was dismantled completely, or lies in some unseen part of TP's Hyrule Castle Town
Even in TP I have no reason to believe the Lost Woods Temple of Time is the same building in OoT
but TP's location makes sense for the Pedestal in LttP, but the connection itself to LttP is somewhat dubious (I feel a huge amount of time passed between the two, if they are connected)

Because it's a cool name? It means Deathbringer/Deathbearer and it's done in a pseudo-Latin way to be reminiscent of Lucifer. I prefer that over "Demise", which just doesn't sound right as a name at all.
This is how I see it: There are two Time Gates, so there must be two Temple of Times. One Time Gate was destroyed, while the other one survived. The one in the desert becomes the one in OoT, which is re-purposed to become the gateway to the Sacred Realm. The one Time Gate in the forest becomes the Temple of Time in TP, which is why Link is able to actually travel through time to get to the dungeon.
The one at the sealed grounds still matched the ocarina location a bit better than the one in the desert. When you stand in front of the sealed grounds you can see eldin volcano in the background. It's in roughly the same spot as death mountain is when you're in front of the temple of time in Ocarina. The lanayru Temple of Time doesn't match up at all.

Oh yeah, the Sacred Realm.
Even though OoT calls it the Temple of Time, the Sacred Realm doesn't always have to be a specific point of time. The entire world is crafted by the mind that's controlling the Triforce (indeed Ganondorf was more aware of this than either Zelda or Link). It just so happened that Ganondorf's vision of Hyrule under his power was 7 years after the time he began his plot. Link was similarly aged to actually be able to stand toe-to-toe with Ganon.
It's all a giant dream sequence. Link just showed up and Zelda was hiding in Ganondorf's evil dream (and even Zelda might be a construct of the realm).

Hard mode, essentially. Enemies do double damage and hearts won't appear in grass anymore. I'm not sure but I think you retain your item upgrades and there are a few minor differences such as instant skyward strikes with the Master Sword. Someone correct me if none of this is true, I'm saving my Hero mode run for Christmas break.

Just beat it. While I think that Demise's final speech was very poorly written (too heayhanded and doesn't actually make a lot of sense) I do kind of like the implication that, rather then a new Link being born every time there is evil that needs defeating its actually an evil arising to curse every new Link.

The actual direction of the cutscenes in this game was fantastic: the best I've seen out of Nintendo and some of the best I've seen in the industry.

Honestly, I think the scene where Groose lands down with Link is the best cutscene in the game. I may be remembering wrong but compared to past Zelda titles, SS didn't have music playing in a lot of the cutscenes which kind of felt weird. I remember most of the dramatic cutscenes in the past Zelda titles were matched with good music but I remember quite a number of the important cutscenes in this game were dead silent.
Other than Demise I think the writing was very powerful. Ghirahim, for example was incredibly written.
