The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Ys IV isn't a launch title. I believe Falcom was aiming for launch window.

As for English release, you'd have to ask XSEED. That said, it seemed the Ys games on PSP did okay for them, so I have a feeling Ys IV will find its way here.

Yeah, but if anything, you'd think they'd be more into more niche stuff like Ys than games with mainstream appeal.

I mean, it is a gaming magazine, I think. Not like USA Today or Time or Maxim.

Well, Kiseki is a bigger series than Ys in Japan, yet the Kiseki game for Vita isn't even in the top 20 (although, that is just a port of a PSP game with voice acting).

I doubt it, doesn't seem very likely that they wouldn't put a picture of the handheld on the cover.

That's the preorder box.

Yeah, and that's the reason why I had the same problem. In the end I've decided to buy Lord of Apocalypse. There's a PSP demo on PSN for all that want to check it out. Uncharted may seem like a no brainer, but I'm not really that fond of a 5(?) hour single player experience being my only game on a new system, especially since there's no MP.

If you're in Japan, visit the Vita booths that are set in different parts of the country during weekends as a part of the Vita promotion campaign. Sadly, Lord of Apocalypse and Ragnarok Odyssey in which I'm the most interested, will only be available to play in Roppongi Hills.
Might have to run by Roppongi Hills, then. Thanks!

May as well mention this here, if anyone's looking to import, I have a spare preorder if you're interested. Probably best to PM me as I'm not following this thread regularly, though.

Is there anywhere to order the chinese version of Uncharted? Are people that are importing only ordering 4gb cards due to the fact that you cant get 16 or 32gb?

Rumor: Downloading PSN Games On Vita 40% Cheaper Than Retail

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/12/04/rumor-downloading-psn-games-on-vita-40-cheaper-than-retail.aspx

"Sony has hinted in the past that downloading games on the Vita will be a cheaper option than buying them off the shelves. The scuttlebutt from a recent Sony event is that the savings could be a dramatic 40 percent for ditching the box.

According to Thrifty Nerd, Vita games will be capped off at $39.99 at retail. Downloading a game at the same price would only cost around $23, however, saving you a pretty penny by going digital. Many gamers gasped at the Vita's spendy memory cards (4GB: $30, 8GB: $45, 16GB: $70, 32GB: $120), but these savings, if true, could soften that blow.

While this prospect is exciting for prospective Vita owners, keep your expectations low until we have official confirmation from Sony.

This piece of news has a thread already.

The prices of the cards are wrong. And there is no way that a third party 40$ game launches at PSN at 23$. No way.
I wonder if they're "correct" actually... as in "we'll list GameStop's prices and ignore that isn't the actual MSRP and everyone will likely sell the lower two for $5 cheaper than us".

Of course, the fact this is GameStop's publication is part of why I wonder if it may be truthful afterall. Most likely it'd be through PSN Plus though, probably the only way to get away with this through retailers is via several money gates, one of which they have to go through retailers for.

You can use wifi no worries, I'm getting the 3G as a just incase feature.
I don't know why I didn't think about this. I don't need the 3G because I have an unlimited data phone contract with tethering, but I'd really like to be able to use/try some of the 3G specific features.

Probably. Still, it will charge much faster pluged to the power than to a computer.
Just get a USB to 3-pin adapter, problem solved.

I hope so. My PSP 2000 was in hard plastic.

Was years ago though.
Yeah, I bought the Daxter bundle. The PSP was in hard plastic, hand mangling plastic inside the outer box. :(

I had largely forgotten about that, but I think that was because the box was designed to actively SHOW the PSP inside. The 3000 ditched that for more sensible packaging, and you don't see that "window" on the PSVita box so it's probably going to be more like the 3000 in that regard.

Dynasty Warriors NEXT will be a launch game in Europe.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/press...escomes_to_the_PlayStationreg_Vita_System.php

Hertfordshire, December 5 th 2011—TECMO KOEI EUROPEannounced today that DYNASTY WARRIORS NEXT , developed by OMEGA FORCE for the PlayStation® Vita handheld entertainment system, will be released across Europe on February 22 nd 2012.

You can read about the different modes on the site: http://www.dynastywarriorsnext.eu/

Conquest mode sounds interesting, but shame the direct co-op is adhoc only.

I should let you know that I've been burned by the Japanese postal services before when it comes to shipping items with li ion batteries. Chances are, the package will be rejected.

Oh shit, that's very soon. Thank god I live only 2 hours away from HK. Time to pick one up when I go over for New Years!

It's going to be very hard I think, the preorders all went in a matter of hours (minutes if you only count the time where the preorder site wasn't crashing) in HK.

I heard they are pretty strict about this now as well, how do they check? are there scanners the package has to go through that detect li-on?

Apparently they still have some left but whenever I get to the credit card part of the checkout it won't let me check out. Any explanation?

Well, HMV sold out of wifi/3g VITA's. Does anyone have another site I could try?

How can you tell that it's out of stock?! I ordered Saturday, so I find it intriguing, I see no mention whatsoever on their pages, but you say you can't order it?!

Weird, maybe me and the rest of the Gaffers who ordered got the last ones, but that seems odd.

Yesterday I bought it.

Today, if you check "add to cart", it says that it's sold out.

You know, probably not only gaffers bought the last units...

Doesn't say that for me, I can add to cart and get to the checkout page.

On another note, is it likely the Japan version of Uncharted will have an English option? I could order the HK but since its releasing the 23rd, I'm worried it might not get here before Christmas.

We don't know yet for Uncharted.

About the out of stock thing, I think it may be real, I cant do the simulation since I already ordered one, but I tried to add to cart the 3G model, and it said "embargoed item", which is weird, because it says the exact same thing for the 8 gb and 16 gb cards.

I tried adding the 4gb, and it doesnt say "embargoed item", what's up with that?! I feel like I'm gonna buy like three 4 gb cards or something, but it'll be a pain in the ass if some games exceed 4 gb. Maybe embargoed also means that it can be out of stock?!

By the way, I was thinking, it was said that some Vita games will be close to 4 gb, like Uncharted, this would mean that 4gb should be enough for at least one game, even 2 maybe in some cases, and the new update on the PS3 with the Vita interface got me thinking that you could actually store your Vita games downloaded through PS3 on the PS3 itself, thus allowing you to switch your games on the memory cards if necessary.

So a small capacity won't necessarily be such a hassle.

Haven't put in my pre-order yet bc I'm waiting for wi-fi, but I'm really looking forward to this console. Has anyone else been to one of the mall demos? There's one here that's demoing the Uncharted game, and it's really impressive.

Have you been to one? Did you enjoy the Demo?

Quite a few people posted their impressions and links to longer ones in this thread.

I'm going to the Discovery Mills event tomorrow with some friends. I'm taking my PSP Go for an interesting comparison (buttons and D-pad mainly) and will take my camera. I hope they are allowing random people to take pictures.

I hate that I live in West Virginia and knowing I will never get to experience one of these events that companies hold, lol. I never get early impressions of anything.

So anything on Dragon's Crown? last we heard about it was at E3 if i'm not mistaken, it was also a no show at TGS surprisingly.

I have the game preordered and i'd love to see it in motion.

According to Dengeki via Andriasang.com, there will be a JP launch day demo for Dynasty Warriors NEXT. I'm not a big fan of the serious but at least there is a demo to try before you buy.
http://andriasang.com/comz7f/musou_next_demo/

Speaking of demos, I wonder what kind of policy is Sony implementing regarding demos for their PSN games for the Vita? I hope they took a page out of Microsofts book and started requiring demos for Vita PSN games.

Well, I've finally placed my pre-order for the Canadian First Edition bundle through Amazon.ca. $321.79 will be the total damage come the middle of February, but it comes with a 4GB stick and Little Deviants, which will keep my total wallet damage for the Vita launch actually less than I was expecting.

I will pick up Uncharted and Super Stardust Delta and I'll be set until the next pay day!

Bring on February! Well, the 15th to be exact! Week early!

HA! A fellow first edition buyer, I hope SSD has online coop, my total was $755 since I'm buying 2 and reselling 1(can't wait for the profit :D) . I do hope SSD is 10 dollars like SSHD.

Has there been a final list of US launch titles? I'll probably only be able to afford 2 games, but I already know that's going to be a problem with all of the awesome games that have been revealed.

Can you play music in the background while playing any game? Has this been address yet?

I'm almost certain that you can from impressions. I think some people have said that while they were playing a game they could open up the music (but since there was no memory card there were no files), while if they tried to open up something like video, it said they had to exit the game.

it's an upgraded DS port?

It's a "remake" of a DS game.

Can you play music in the background while playing any game? Has this been address yet?

Yes! Universal custom soundstracks have been confirmed!

Custom Soundtracks

When using the system's Media Player to play music, and you switch back to a game, the music playback can be kept playing in the background. While there are some limitations, the game's sound effects should be able to overlay directly over the custom sound. All this is done without the game doing anything special, and the feature should work with all games.

it's an upgraded DS port?

I have a feeling it was a PSP game that Sony probably moneyhatted to Vita... I'll end up buying it most likely if it gets localized but damn is it ugly.

There's supposed to be a demo at Jump Festa next week, hopefully we get to see some vids and it looks better in motion.

I can't wait to play a bunch of PSP games on Vita that I've bought but haven't really played on my PSP Go, like Gran Turismo and Resistance: Retribution.

This is what I'm waiting to do, actually. I'll grab UC, but it's all backlog on that Oled after that for a little while.

Seems to come from a ***** rumour. Not sure if this is legit. The footage in the YT link is the promo video for the 360 version released in May.
Oh lol, ***** is still censored. And so they should be.

Yeah, looking it up, none of the major sites have reported it. I'll edit that post and label it as a rumor.

Oh well, at least this video isn't fake. It's a trailer for the Nico Nico Douga application. I hope SCEA is working on a Youtube one, though given Nico Nico Video will be teaming up with anime companies to stream stuff, I wouldn't necessarily be against having the Nico Nico app too.
