The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Seth Killian hinted at cross-play with PS3 announcement in a few days... I hope it happens.
This would be really awesome. Like the "buy the PS3 version and get the Vita port for free / buy the Vita version and get the PS3 one for free" featured in other games with this feature.

People have already bought the PS3 version and I highly doubt Capcom will hand the the Vita port over for free. >_>

Crossplay means PSV vs. PS3 players, not "Hey, have this for free".
That's not to say they absolutely couldn't offer up a bundle for those who might want it. Ruin is doing it and Dragon's Crown is kind of doing it (there isn't an official bundle (yet) but both games bought together amounts to basically what one full-price retail title costs)

I've come to accept the static backgrounds. If that's what it takes to achieve 60fps and still make launch, so be it...

Cross play would lessen the sting, that's for sure :-)
Is the animation in the backgrounds reduced or something from the console version? The couple of stages they show all had background animation.

Only certain parts of the background move, like the little waterfalls in that video or the resource-unintensive prerendered fireworks from an earlier video. The stage where it's most jarring is the one with the previously vibrant and active Servbots, now creepily frozen in place.

But as long as they preserve the gameplay mechanics and fluidity (which seems to be the case), it should still hold up nicely compared to the console version. The character models look incredible.

Do we know if Lumines and Ridge Racer will be launch games in Europe?

Lumines and Ridge was pretty much confirmed for US, I'm betting it's the same for Euroland

I'm pretty SFxT doesn't have static background when they showed it so it should better for their next release.

Ah ok, yeah as you said its no big deal. Just glad the gameplay and framerate seems rock solid.

There are some movements in the background, but much less compared to the console versions.

EDIT: Already answered, i didnt update the thread before i answered =)

This is Capcom we are talking about here. No way this happens. They'll sell you two copies of the same game in one year and still try to milk the user base for DLC on top of that.

Capcom is one of the only companies that keep the $=€ price tag in digital content in PSN. Don't even expect less price in digital than in retail (and obviously, not giving you Vita version for free, or even with discount, if you own the PS3 version).

I just need those guys to localize MHP3rd...

When is the Asian version of Uncharted going to be up on play-Asia :(

I won't have anything to play when my Japanese launch system arrives it looks

Kotaku's Unit 13 preview is pretty glowing.

http://kotaku.com/5866498/unit-13-is-unexpectedly-a-playstation-vita-game-that-matters

Unit 13 is, Unexpectedly, a PlayStation Vita Game That Matters

I missed the first item we ran on Unit 13. I forgot the second one existed.

But now that I've played this "launch window" game for the PlayStation Vita, I'm paying attention. I think you should, too.

Unit 13 gives a generic first impression. It's a third-person military shooter made by Zipper Interactive, the creators of SOCOM and MAG. It is controlled mostly by the Vita's twin analog sticks and looks exactly like how you'd expect it to look.

What's special is how heavily-networked the game is. Watch the video above and you'll see and hear about all of the best features, but for the video-watching impaired, let me break it down:

  • The game contains 36 main missions that last 3-30 minutes, each of which can be played solo or in online two-player co-op.
  • You play for high scores, chaining kills the way you would in the old Sega game The Club or in Modern Warfare's Special Ops mode. Or think of it like chaining combos in an old Tony Hawk. You post those scores online.
  • Whether you have a 3G-enabled Vita or are just on Wi-Fi, you can see a perpetually-updated status feed that tells you how your friends are doing in the game.
  • You can compete in daily challenges, which remix the levels, then post your best scores online.
Special boss missions, dubbed "High Value Target" missions are accessible only if you gain a lot of stars for scoring highly in missions. This is weird, but cool: If someone on your friends list or someone who is physically nearby unlocks one of these missions, you get a single opportunity to play it, too. That offer expires in a set period of time (24 hours, perhaps), and you only get one crack at it. If you succeed, it remains unlocked.

I think I'd wind up playing this game solo most of the time, but with a feature set like that, I doubt I'd ever feel like I was playing it in a vacuum. This is how I want my portable games to be networked, so I am now paying attention to Unit 13, which is set to release in the launch window (close to February, maybe within a couple of months of that).

They should really have that game ready for launch or close to launch.

There hasn't been online-multiplayer shooter announced for launch day (or window) yet.

The first developer to capitalize off that could really build a fanbase that COULD support them for the next couple of years.

Agreed. How better to show off that sexy new hardware and twin stick design to the fps/tps crowd than with a competently designed and executed game. I'm not a huge fan of the genre myself outside of a few notable titles but I hope they can pull it off because it would be good for the platform.

can anyone answer my question. will the ps vita have different trophies for games that are on the ps3.

for example will UMvC3 for the vita share the trophies wit the ps3 version or is a different list?

I went to test out the Vita today at Discovery Mills. The system feels great in your hands. Love the mini sticks. Love the screen. The backtouch took some getting used to. I can see that LBP is the game to buy just off the demo alone

There's only one thing that I was disappointed in...

The Uncharted graphics :(

I don't know if this was an old build or what but the game looked a mess on the system. Granted, I didn't try it out or any other system to see if maybe it was just that particular one (was kind of in a rush) but there was a lot of jaggies. Didn't look very smooth. It basically didn't look as good as it does in say a video like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utByf7I0IoM

Did anyone else have an experience like this?

We should soon start seeing new Harrison Ford Uncharted spots, this time for the PlayStation Vita version. But before the Golden Abyss commercials air, here's Indy on the cover of Dengeki PlayStation Vita.

There actually isn't a magazine called "Dengeki PlayStation Vita." This is just a special issue of Dengeki PlayStation, released to coincide with the PlayStation Vita's launch. The issue will be released opposite Vita and Uncharted Golden Abyss in Japan on December 17.

worth the 620+ yen?

By the way you need to give us good impressions next week, what games do you plan on buying?
Don't know if it's worth it - I only buy Famitsu, but I guess I'll get that particular Dengeki PSV, as the walkthroughs may come in handy.

As for the games, I plan on buying Lord of Apocalypse and maaybe some other title, but it really depends on the Roppongi Hills Vita event which I'll attend this Sunday. If any other game will be genuinely fun I may consider buying it too. Don't really want to spend my cash on Uncharted, as it'll probably be a short single player experience and that's not what I'm looking for if I buy only 1 game for a new system.
Also, I've recently bought Type-0 and MHP3rd on the PSN, so I'll post my Vita impressions from those two as well.

HMV cancelled my order as they can't ship overseas :/

Bad day.
I was too late to pre-order but I feel for you man.
Only if you had some trip booked, should you feel the pain. The onslaught of games should keep you happily busy until february.

Don't be weak and get it on ebay!

no digs or anything but why is it that people seem to think they're getting free shit from Sony all the time?

if it's not "vita/Ps3" it's "well, i BOUGHT this game once - where's my free for ever digital version?!"

Seems some games will offer the same game for one purchase but i don't think it's going to be the norm.

I wouldn't expect it to be the norm, but a discount sure would be nice. Especially if the Vita version is just going to be a digital download anyways.

I did, the game just looks muddy. It also looks like there's some sort of black crush going on with the game's colours.

I'm in UK and imported, hoping to get the Vita before Xmas, but we'll see. I got uncharted so will probably review it for the site, will also do some videos I imagine.

Although I have two weeks off, so may do it when I'm back from holiday.
