Xenoblade coming to the U.S. via Gamestop Exclusive (also avail on Nintendo.com)

Ditto.

I do question those who modded their Wiis to play this and are now upset.

I can only speak for myself but no, definitely not upset at this. Why would anyone be? More people get to play this amazing game, and now when Nintendo talks about attracting the hardcore for Wii U, Xenoblade won't be in the back of my mind any longer.

It would be nice if there would be a strategy guide made for the game. With all the sidquests, the game really needs one.

In terms of guides, there is that incredibly useful, spoiler-filled spreadsheet.

Again, it's filled to the brim with spoilers and just visiting it would probably reveal some things that a fresh player might not want to know, so just a warning.

Pokémon Platinum's guide is a weapon.

The Japanese one is worse - 900+ pages. I didn't know there was binding that could support that.

Happy that Canada's going to get it, but I'm wondering if it'll still be EB/GS exclusive or if other stores will be able to get it on this.

Now I need confirmation for Mexico and I can die happily (after/if I finish Xenoblade... and Graces f), cause neither GS or the Nintendo Store are options for me :(
Club Nintendo MX just tweeted this, I can't figure out if the Google translation is indicating that they're announcing The Last Story or Xenoblade.

https://twitter.com/#!/RevistaCN/statuses/144818751894847488

The Last Story sale a la venta el 24 de febrero en Europa, esperamos que pronto se de un anuncio como el de Xenoblade para América.
Google Monkey said:

In other words, no confirmation of anything, CN MX is just being hopeful.

Thanks for clarifying.

It's an official Nintendo account (apparently), so even if it's a "hopeful" tweet, it's a bit strange to come from that channel.

I mean, I think it's pretty likely that they're going through with it, it's just a matter of them saying so at this point.

"The Last Story goes on sale February 24th in Europe, we hope there is an announcement soon as the one for Xenoblade for America"

Basically, means nothing :(

I doubt they will announce TLS before Xenoblade comes out.

Just going off Nintendo logic.

It'd make sense. Put all the backing behind Xenoblade to see how it goes, and if it's a solid release then Gamestop and Nintendo can talk about doing the same thing for TLS. You don't want an userbase like this to be forced to choose between the two at the same time.

Nintendo isn't putting all their backing behind the game though. Releasing the game only at Gamestop is just setting the game up for failure. I don't think they want it to do well. They want it to sell poorly so they can justify not releasing games.

..No? It just makes it so they don't have a bunch of extra copies wasting space if this game doesn't sell. Gamestop can provide Nintendo with specific numbers on the reserves they have for the game. Same with Nintendo. I'm sure a company like Amazon does it in bulk because it's a warehouse.

Complain, complain, complain.

Got an answer from NoA:

Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for contacting us. I know this isn’t what you were hoping to hear, but at this time, we haven’t announced any information regarding the release of Xenoblade Chronicles in Canada. I want you to know that I’ve shared your comments with the appropriate departments here at Nintendo. For any new information or announcements, keep an eye on the What’s New section of our website:

Sincerely,

Mina Harris
Nintendo of America Inc.

I know Nintendo of Canada should know better, but who should I believe?

I'm inclined to believe it'll get a Canadian release simply because it's hard to think of any games that failed to come out in both USA and Canada, and the fact the chain its exclusive to is widespread in Canada too. Helps too they DID get a French translation done so... well, why not?

Then again, given I hear some monolingual (packaging-wise anyway) games are classified as imports I guess the regional crap COULD be a real problem given it's a GameStop exclusive.
I want a boxart. Gimmie, Nintendo.
I'm expecting the same as Europe/Japan, especially given how quick and dirty this is sounding, but I'll be disappointed if it's anything else unless it's one of the candidates for the reversed cover in Europe.

I honestly don't think NoA had any intention of ever bringing the game over to the States/Canada. I'm of the opinion that the exclusivity deal with Gamestop is based on GS footing the publishing bill for Nintendo. With that, even if the game doesn't sell well, having all the sales concentrated into one retailer will likely ensure that GS will profit on their investment.

So though I think Operation Rainfall worked (at least for this game), I think it worked on an unintended target. As weird as it is to say, I think GS is the "hero" in this scenario. Xenoblade's sales will likely be the determining factor as to whether or not GS does this again for TLS or PT.

If that were true, the game would only be available from GameStop. It's also available directly from Nintendo. I doubt GameStop paid anything towards having this game published. Publishers have to pay for shelf space in major retail chains. Going with just one chain means Nintendo only has to pay one chain for shelf space.

If I'm not mistaken, Nintendo doesn't sell physical games directly from their website. When you go to purchase a game from Nintendo.com, it just directs you to a choice of like 6 online retailers. I'm sure Xenoblade's buy page, when available, will lead to Gamestop.com.

reggie is a fucking genius. limited release will inevitably cause sales to be crap. so then after the NPD comes out he can say "I told you so, it would sell poorly". But then also gets to the fandom off his back because the game finally came out in the U.S.

he has essentially gotten the best of both worlds. behind that familiar and comforting face is a master manipulator.

GameStop is already accepting preorders. Nintendo's page has two links: a link to GameStop and link to Nintendo's online store. Nintendo starts accepting preorders on December 19.

Scroll down and look on the left for the separate preorder links to GameStop and Nintendo's store.
I see that but every game on Nintendo.com (that I've seen through some quick browsing) leads you to buying from another online retailer. It would be odd for them to change that up for one niche game. Maybe they will act as a middleman and you can purchase the game from them but I'm almost 100% positive the game will ship from Gamestop.

Guess we'll see when the actual pre-order page becomes available.

They did this for electroplankton, so there is precedent

Hello,

We're contacting you about order #xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for "Monado: Beginning of the World." We recently learned that we won't be able to offer the game directly from Amazon.com. We're very sorry about this.

As a result, we've canceled your order and you have not been charged. We appreciate that you chose Amazon.com to pre-order "Monado: Beginning of the World," and are sorry that we were unable to fulfill the order.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
Amazon.com

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Cancellation emails seem to be going out from Amazon. I'm wondering if the Gamestop exclusivity deal is a result of the fact that this entire campaign gained steam when hundreds (thousands?) of people pre-ordered the game from Amazon. Maybe Gamestop wanted to take a bite out of what is probably their biggest competitor?

But that article at that site said they confirmed it?

Agh, now I'm all worried again. Boo Canada!

Nintendo of Canada confirmed it, but Nintendo of America says something else, thus we're not sure anymore.

But I'm more willing to believe Nintendo of Canada on this. I mean, they confirmed it themselves.

Man, if it weren't for last week's announcement I'd feel the same way. Instead... Mission Accomplished is more appropriate, I think.

Edit: Also, absolute worst case scenario abut Canada and Xenoblade? At least it's a version you can import WITHOUT modding, though I guess it's more of a pain that requires eBay or contacts who'll grab it for you. Or just living along the border and having a passport/someone who does that'll run over and get it, whichever.

Yeah but we got a sweet ass new NA logo!

The Nintendo Store ship to Canada, so I think it will be possible for us Canadians to order it from there.
