Yes, it seems to be focused on survival from:

Other survivors
Fungi Monsters
Environment/Nature
Food/shelter

However we need more detailes about how they are tying this concept with the gameplay.

Please give more details ND.

A PSblog post should come once this show is finished.

Hopefully they introduce a third character.

Simple, I'm not hating it's gameplay or story development. I'm hating (and that's my fault for having high hopes with close to zero information) on the actual premise.
I truly expected a realistic take on survival after a pandemic cataclysm. Where tension would be constructed because other humans are doing anything to survive. Much like The Road.
But then in the premise he dispatches a human but there is nothing to it, the real tension were... monsters. Which totally went against my hopes.

And to your answer... again, for the premise of the teaser, I was expecting something realistic. I'm totally fine with Uncharted solutions for the unnatural. That doesn't mean games can't take it self seriously, and have grounded construction for events.

Well you have unrealistic expectations... so I guess, get used to disappointment.

They might do some interesting things with the game (hopefully quite a bit) but it's best to remain grounded.

No one in the industry has been able to do anything truly interesting/innovative with survival, without falling back on some type of heavy combat focus.

For instance, it would be really awesome for a game to give you like two bullets for you gun (like The Road) and build crazy tension... but it's never gonna happen. This is just a limitation of game design right now. Things might sound great in your head, but they don't work in a actual game. Or at least people haven't figured out how to make them work.

Until someone comes along and breaks the mold... we're stuck with traditional game design. That's why Naughty Dog is really amazing, because they find a lot of ways to improve the normally mundane. They take narrative and characters and some dynamic action-platforming sequences have been something they do that no one else can/has.

Maybe they can reinvent the wheel... but it's unfair and unrealistic to expect them to.

wow...man some of y'all must be blind AND deaf. Same voice, quite a similar face (with a beard).

lol whatever

anyways I just hope this is survival horror because I love the premise behind this (aside from the zombies). But if it just turns into another "waves of enemies" kind of game then what wasted potential.

Not the same voice. Who's deaf now?

I agree that the face is pretty similar keeping in mind the vast array of possibilities for a face.

I'm actually going off of two things - one is Naughty Dog's focus this gen, and the other is the short description we have on this game:

It's going to utilize Naughty Dog's cinematic strengths to provide a very scripted experience, I can almost guarantee it. Mark this.

I'd be ok with this. All I would want is survival-based gameplay ala Dead Space and Resident Evil. Scripted can be a good thing sometimes, so long as it's not Call of Duty levels of scripted.

Yeah... because, these aren't Zombies!
Good job reading this thread, dude

Honestly, they might as well be zombies.

Fungus monsters that look like zombies ~ Zombies.

I like the post apocalyptic concept, but I wish they stayed away from zombies. Robots would have been cool, though I guess then it'd basically be Enslaved.

One day I hope they do that fantasy game they were talking about. Better than zombies...

To the people saying these aren't zombies, stop being silly. The monsters were once human. They are now something else. And that something else is trying to kill you. Functionally, they are every bit a zombie. But so what? I'm sure ND will knock it out of the park.

Looks promising. Hope it's a bit more free roaming then the uncharted games tho. So is Ellen Page also the voice actor of Ellie? Naughty Dog models their characters to their voice actors and the name resemble also. Nolan -> Nathan, Emily -> Elena, Claudia -> Chloe. Sooo Ellen -> Ellie?

At this time I don't know how you got that from that description, if ND wanted to do a game exactly as their previous game they would have made UC4 instead of a new IP like in this case.

I see where you're coming from but I'll wait before making such judgement, it just seems out of place with the info available to us.

I know. A lot of people are. Just look at the near endless cups of jism exploded over Uncharted 2 and 3. These people don't care if they're not really playing something, if skill requirements are removed, if it's only an illusion. And that's OK.

I'm just saying it's something I would consider bad. If you remove skill requirements (in Naughty Dog's case, with excessive scripting and platforming handholding) you remove tension, and a survival horror game without tension is basically worthless.

I could be wrong. I hope so! I'm just not going to be optimistic until I see otherwise. The trailer immediately suggests another cinematic focus.

Where did they get the time? Seriously...

I guess this means there is no more Uncharted lol, if the newspaper was in Uncharted 3, and this is set in the same universe, that means Drake and Elena and Sully are all dead from the plague lolz

I'm not a fan of zombie over-saturation, but i have to admit that this looks amazing. I really hope it's more about survival and adventure than mowing waves of dem zambies.

a second full team was secretly making the game. and also. ND can stop with adding weird fantasy stuff in the UC series. lol.

Just let the people who make their purchase decisions based on extremely shallow criteria believe whatever they want.

it's okay. when the full features are listed they'll be back. they always come back.

...... they have 2 teams now, dude.....

A bit over the top.
Uncharted games are at their core still shooters. The skill requirement is in the shooting just like any other platformer. Also UC3 had some genuinely difficult puzzles. Sure platforming is easy but there are very few platformers where its difficult.

We never have had an atmospheric zombie game before. They always trend on the arcade side. I think this could be really awesome. Considering the developer I expect it to be awesome.

I am Legend plus Naughty Dog is a great combo.

Stopped right there.

I don't want to have anything to do with your expectations.

Have you ever watched The Road? Or seen Contagion this year? That's what I expected.
I believe in Naughty Dog pulling a 28 days (years lol) later, but still. It could steer off monsters, in my eyes.

And maybe it will resemble something of a survival game like Silent Hill 1 (and even a bit of Resident Evil 1), which I would find very cool, especially with those graphics.

But as of now, I feel like it will take a lot of magic to steer away from the current trend of monster killing. But happily, ND has the talent to make it happen.

@Evolved1: Yes, perfectly put. I've came to terms with that. It's just that with all the teasing and expectation, I thought this was finally the chance to make a seat-eating ass-shutting game. As I said it's my fault my dissapointment and hate.

i kinda doubt it. it seems they'll be traveling across the USA. Different locations will likely be different chapters; they'll script the skill requirements out of the game and people will scream and celebrate this fact because they got to see a boat crash through the side of a skyscraper while forgetting they're not actually playing anything
I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion. Going by uncharted events like the convoy sections, the ship chase, the train, etc. ND is one of the few developers who can entwine actual game play with set pieces. It's one of the many reasons those games have such critical acclaim across the industry.

The first enemy looks like a typical zombie but then fungi man came in and switched it up. Wait for official word from Naughty Dog but honestly I don't care what they classify them as.
