hell no, best linear game this year is Witcher 2 by far. If you have a 360 be sure to cop it early next year and witness the truth.

Best graphics of the year too, dat clothing detail.

Lol, Witcher 2 is not a linear game by any stretch. At best it's a sort of pseudo mix, but it's definitely bordering more on the open world scale than linear. It has more similarities to Skyrim, RDR etc than it does UC3, COD etc.
 
Interesting that you choose to post this after they have confirmed it works the same way the Uncharted cinematics work which is pre-rendered in-engine.
They are pre-rendered to save on loading times, not to boost the graphics or because PS3 can't render what they are doing in the cutscenes
 
yeah I found Uncharted 3 to be pretty forgettable. It was a sign (for me at least) that they should give the series a break for a while...and then this gets announced haha. It's like they read my mind.

Skyrim more so than RDR.

They did not say that, and the Last of Us trailer clearly does not have the same IQ as the pre-rendered cut scenes in UC3.
 
P.S, any where I can watch the actual award announcements? Not on GT yet? Unless I've missed them. Wouldn't mind seeing a quick highlights vid showing all the winners!

They do improve the graphics quality in the cutscenes beyond what is in gameplay. How the PS3 would run them in real time is debatable, but the quality is improved noticably. Personally I doubt it could run them at a smooth 30fps.

The Last of Us trailer was definitely not CG. all in-engine captures from PS3, just like Uncharted cinematics :)
How more clear can it get?

We know how Uncharted cinematics work by virtue of their post-mortem. They have confirmed it. If you don't accept it based on that you are a blinded by some weird stubbornness.
 
Currently only on page 19 so far, so it might have been adressed, but I got to say I don't think that this isn't zombies..

It seems pretty obvious to me that this is infected mutants - much better choice than undead zombies rising from the grave.

It's clear from the teaser, some killer-fungus beeing spread to insects..
And much like we feared the pig-flue, and mad-cow disease, etc. would infect humans, this fungus disease has gotten to humans, the biggest monster of them all..

When you get out of the city we might see more infected creatures, like (mad) cows and dogs, bears and similar also beeing infected.
I just expect this trailer is from human-turf.

So wait, the 15 year old is going to be killable? As in, she can die by getting eaten by zombies?

Is that......allowed? I don't know.

I'm pretty sure that it's not allowed to kill anyone (both grownups and kids) in most countries.. :) But game-characther are pretty much legl to kill. :P
 
Also between Ellie and the more modest Lara Croft, I wonder if next-gens oversaturated main character type will be lithe yet modestly not too-sexy females getting covered in dirt to replace this gen's bald/brown haired space marine set.
I'm all for that, but I really doubt we'll be suffering a lack of soldier types next gen.
 
I wonder is SSM and GG went "SHIT son!" When they saw TLOS?! They are also working on new IPs and this game looks stunning.

Exactly. So why put that statement at the beginning of the video?

You can see the aliasing/shimmering. It's running and rendered in real-time. Just accept it.

How does this conversation happen in every ND thread? This exact conversation. In every thread. How?

I'll keep asking. What is improved noticeably? Assets are not changed at all and post processing effects like anti aliasing and AF are exactly as they appear ingame

Cutscenes in the game are generally toned down moments with characters talking, any of the high intensity stuff like planes crashing, boats sinking, cities collapsing etc. are a part of the gameplay so its not due to the intensity of the scenes

So what exactly are they improving?

Not all cut-scenes in uncharted are pre-rendered, and the ones that are, have pristine IQ, which is not the case for The last of Us trailer.

Late 2012 at the earliest. 3 years on a new game built with a solid existing engine should translate to Among Thieves levels of technical polish, rather than the unevenness of Drake's Deception.
 
You used to be cool. What happened?

I love good open world games. GTA, STALKER, etc etc.

But some games, like Dead Island, simply waste the open world and would be better as linear games. I think a lot of open world games would be better as linear, to be honest, as very few devs are capable of making a great open world game.

Since the Uncharted games are great linear experiences, I hope NG keep that up.

I think I always lean towards linear over open world, because I like to see a really great guided experience, but then when someone nails an open world game I get sucked in to that too.

Really? So people can´t be disappointed in games that you like? My hype reached heavens pre Uncharted 3 release, and i was disappointed by the game.

Some were disappointed by the new Zelda, some by UC2. Doesn't change the fact that it's overall a great game.

Back on topic (again):
I hope it's a fall 2012 game.
Can't wait to play it.
Would be interesting to know when we are going to see SSM and GG new game :-/

You'll see them on PS4. ^^

GoW team is working on something, GG is working on two games, Quantic Dream is working on two games too ... There are a lot of unannounced games right now.
 
Aaaah, so that's why U3 was rather mediocre (and short) by their own standards...

Looks utterly fantastic! I so cannot wait to buy this!

Chuck, they were improved in cut scenes in UC2. Not sure about UC3, but it doesn't seem to be as much of a difference as in UC2 (which was still relatively small). Skin in UC3 even in-game mimics the effects of sub surface scattering really well, unless it actually uses it, not even sure.
 
The trailer sounds exactly like what I have guessed, now I need detail game play and release date.
Ellen Page? sold. Naughty Dog graphics? sold.
 
after uncharted 3 , and 2 obviously , in ND we believe

but it looks so amazing....it could be an advertising for a ps4 game teaser , i would believe...

and some people think that ps4/X720 will hardly be witcher 2 / BF3 maxed out...
 
Haven't been able to watch the trailer as I'm on a slow wifi connection on a vacation but I love the premise of the game. And you know, Naughty Gods and all that. Bring it!

doesn't mean its rendered in real time, it only means its rendered in-engine with high quality versions of the assets. They are pre-renderd movies using the engine and ps3 to render them out.
 
If it wasn't for neogaf i'd never have guessed that there are people disappointed with UC3. Everyone i know loves it more than UC2.
 
This game will be so tough to wait for... Naughty Dog storytelling+graphics+survival horror game with weapon/ammunition scarcity management+all the stuff that Naughty Dog is still keeping undisclosed about gameplay... Yes, it will be tough to wait for this.
