I don't think many people really know what that site means.

Well, even if you can't read it, S is much better than D. It's basically rankings. S is above A.

The chart thingy below that is for different aspects of the game out of 5. Like originality and graphics and music and stuff like that.

The chart below that shows you what percentage of people rated it what score.

And then below that are reviews.

It IS an aggregate of user reviews which I usually wouldn't trust by score alone (though given Famitsu WiiMK2 is what I'd be inclined to trust first... not to mention I wouldn't be able to read any opinions posted in Japanese), but it's probably indicative that at the least Xenoblade's the safer bet, whether or not The Last Story is really D material.

Was there really any doubt?

Yes?

Got an answer from NoA:

Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for contacting us. I know this isn’t what you were hoping to hear, but at this time, we haven’t announced any information regarding the release of Xenoblade Chronicles in Canada. I want you to know that I’ve shared your comments with the appropriate departments here at Nintendo. For any new information or announcements, keep an eye on the What’s New section of our website:

http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew

Sincerely,

Mina Harris
Nintendo of America Inc.

I know Nintendo of Canada should know better, but who should I believe?

And I got this e-mail AFTER Nintendo of Canada confirmed it.

I find mk2 to be a pretty reliable source for general impressions.

It's not like metacritic or amazon user reviews where everything is either 10/10 or 1/10.

If S vs D isn't clear enough:
People generally feel that Xenoblade is an excellent game. The Last Story, on the other hand, is perceived to be pretty mediocre.

I think the critic reviews reflect this as well, but I can't say for sure. I don't generally care what Famitsu and other similar outlets score games. Critic reviews always have money involved in some way. I value the average user's opinion on games way more than I do the critics.

Uh. Why? I mean, do you hold one of more value or something, user reviews vs critic reviews?

You're right, I always go to the review section at GameFAQs over Metacritic.

If this site has magically different reviews then then the general user reviews on English sites, cool, but are you legitimately asking why someone might see a difference between a user aggregate and review aggregate score? Really?

My assumption in my previous post was wrong, at least if you hold any value in Famitsu scores.

Xenoblade got 9/9/9/9
Last Story got 10/10/9/9

I still care more about what mk2 says though (especially when it comes to Japanese games media). But to each her own.
I think the guys on RSG and/or WAHP also expressed disappointment in TLS.

I'd hold even more value in Western reviews and impressions on forums. Famitsu's completely unreliable, and not only can't I read WiiMK2's rationales (sort of Google Translate or Babel Fish) but there seem to be a few games I disagree on scorewise. Still, it sounds like it's a really fun game, just not anything amazing.

TLS looks (visually) better than Xenoblade, has great music, and fun gameplay. I want both.

I'd like both to be localized too. I usually find a lot to enjoy in "mediocre" games so...

I definitely don't agree with all of mk2. It's just a general guideline for me (as all reviews are). I find that a lot of the games I really enjoy are considered to be pretty mediocre by the masses. But I still find it useful to read what other people think about a game.

Pretty much every game that has a ranking in it, from Sonic Generations to Advance Wars, ranks in order of S, A, B, C, D, F.

Seeing the two big bolded letters on the pages that were linked should have been obvious.

There was absolutely no way that GameStop/EB wouldn't have brought it over if Nintendo themselves didn't. I mean the last store exclusive Nintendo game in the US was Chibi Robo Park Patrol at Walmart, but it was available everwhere up here. There should have been no doubt.

Nintendo of America usually never knows what is going on with Nintendo of Canada. It's too bad that we don't have a direct customer service line to Nintendo of Canada. Still, other than the lack of communication between the different offices, NoA's customer service is phenomenal.

I'm not sure how much I'll actually play this, but I'm definitely preordering it (today if possible) so that hopefully nintendo considers releasing games like this in the future instead of cockteasing them.

It should have been obvious from my posts that wasn't my question about the site.

i know its a matter of taste... but really?
you gotta love grey and brown if you prefere tls´s generic art style...
nowhere near the first concept arts -_-. and actually playing the game, it doesn't look that good... looks more like a game that tries to hard to be cutting edge current gen, but fails on all fronts... having no art style certainly doesn't help either.
Maybe I am little bit harsh because it was disapointing when I first tried it...
When the pal version hits, my expectations will be different, and somehow will be able to enjoy it this time.
//sry for offtopic.

I hope you will enjoy XB as much as I (and many others) did.

Yeah, TLS kind of looks like the black sheep of the operation rainfall games to me. I read that it compares to FFXIII in terms of linearity & the amount of time you spend watching cutscenes, which REALLY has me worried.

It's a Mistwalker game man, has to be good.

I actually saw Pandora's Tower as this... then again, I was looking at Xenoblade's quality, and The Last Story's name recognition. Pandora's Tower could well be silently the second best game of the two, lacking the recognition of the other two yet having the better premise/gameplay between it and The Last Story.

is there a way i could pre-order on the website but pickup from the store? if not i'll head to the gamestop sometime this week. there isn't one in a convenient place for me so i'd rather just make the 1 trip to pick it up rather than go there, pre-order, then go there again to pick it up

Yes, that's how I'm doing it.
