I don't mind those who hate crosby, or aren't a "fan" of him.

Regardless of his track record (Cup, Medals etc) .... If you actually watch him on the ice. He's a leg up over every player. He is actually THAT good. I'm not being biased at all this is an outside observation.

He always makes something happen on the ice. Perfect tape to tape passes, top speed, and is very strong in the corners..

It boggles my mind when people can't acknowledge talent just because they don't "like" a player. So they quickly go and call that person "overrated"

Same concept applies to Cristiano Ronaldo. Guys a fucking stud skillfully. But everyone just hates on him because of his unethical ways of playing the game (which really every soccer player does) ... however, I don't want to open up a can of worms; so i'll stop ;p

When you risk becoming a vegetable by continuing to play, at some point you have to start thinking with your brain instead of your heart.

I'm starting to wonder the same; if these problems keep coming back, it will be tough. I can't even see him playing the same way, with the same intensity for fear of getting hurt again.

No doubt if he got out now his legend would endure, instead of being constantly plagued with injury and possible dwindling skills if he keeps going. Keep the legend alive by stepping out now and people will remember the 24 year old master always.

Buuuullllllshit. No problem saying he's the second best in the world, though.

*closes can*

Get out of here with that diving cry baby!

Ugh, can you imagine growing up and all you want to do is play hockey -- you spend hours practicing your shots and how to take a pass, you skate whenever it's cold enough for there to be ice, you watch, live, breathe and think about hockey all the time. When teachers ask you what you want to be when you grow up, you say hockey player and never even think about doing anything else. You play pee wee, elementary school and highschool hockey and finally make it into the NHL, and you're a star player, but at the ripe old age of 24 you realize that if you keep playing the game that you've loved your entire life, you could die.

Even though he's had 7 great seasons, he's got 50 years ahead of him to fill, and the one thing he's wanted to do might be out of reach.

Shit's depressing.

It is but on the other hand Sid can walk away and never have to work another day in his life.

There's way more to life than just hockey.

I dunno, Forza. All he's got left is his fortune, his youth and good health, and many hockey opportunities outside of playing. Crosby might as well just off himself.

I caught Elliotte Friedman from CBC on the FAN590 today and he mentioned talking to an NHL GM last Saturday night. That GM noted that many league GMs hate the word "concussion" because of the negative connotation it brings. He went on to say that many teams refuse to use the word when assessing players with concussions.

Is it possible Sid got a slight concussion from the Krejci elbow that Manics posted? Many players like Letang and Pronger have recently passed that ImPACT-Test only to be shut down days later.

No surprise. It seems like since the Reimer injury, "concussion-like symptoms" have been the buzzwords around the league. Not sure how that's much more positive, though.

“It really doesn’t take much the second time,” said Echlin.

“It took very little to provoke his symptoms. It was a collision at speed … (that) transmitted to his brain forces that irritated him.”

Been reading up all afternoon. :(

Pens-age not weighing in on this? Don't blame them at all.

I honestly don't know what to say. Too many unknowns right now. The impacts of a concussion vary person to person. But yeah, I had a really bad feeling when they held him out the 2 games. Sid wants to be on the ice - he's insanely competitive, so you know he'd only sit for good reason. It's just scary to even think about the fact he may never be the same again. I'm trying to remain optimistic but at the same time I'm a realist.

Yeah, but when you know Crosby, you know his life is hockey. When he was in Rimouski, he was always on the ice, playing on outside rinks after practice. Pretty everyone agree Crosby is not the most talented hockey player (pure raw talent), but he's the best because his work ethic is so great. And it's been that way since he was a boy. Many athletes have a hard time after they retire because they miss the boys, they miss the hockey room atmosphere, etc. You'd have to think it would be worse for Crosby because he's so young and because of his love for the game.

When you risk becoming a vegetable by continuing to play, at some point you have to start thinking with your brain instead of your heart.

I agree, but I'm not sure what happens to his sponsorships and contractual obligations. I think his brain is already borked. He is taking whacky non-traditional medical treatments may/maynot help, but I think he's taken too much damage to recover.

If he was truly serious he would retire.

Boggles my mind just how amazing Crosby is. If you have a genuine dislike for him then you really need to wonder if you're actually a hockey fan at all. I hate what's happened and I hate what's to come... There's no finer face for the league than he is.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, however, has great potential...

Lubomir Visnovski practicing again! 1 down, 2 to go...

A minor victory.

Crosby is overrated because people (and by "people" I mean your typical ESPN's and those who normally don't give a shit about hockey) think he's worth mentioning in the same breath as someone like Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, or Howe. He just isn't. He might have the potential, or sadly maybe even had the potential, but all that talk was VERY premature. I think your claim that he has a step on "everyone" in the league is off too. Guys like Datsyuk and Ovechkin (when he cares, kinda like Lemieux was) are just as good in most respects, and better in others.

Kings fire Murray, name Stevens interim coach

Kinda saw it coming, with the expectations placed on the team by their off-season acquisitions, but they are only 2 points back of 8th place.

And Mike Richards put his legs up, had a drink, and said, "And now smooooth sailing for me."

Stevens is a good coach, and he should have an NHL team, but not the one Richards is on. He's gonna take so much advantage of that. Let's see how this goes.

True but I don't blame Sid for that. Just look at his idiot doctors that did the EXACT same thing with comparing him to a Ferrari and saying he had no fears in coming back and could take a hit, etc, etc etc...

TSNBobMcKenzie: Devils trade Rod Pelley and Mark Fraser to Ducks for D Curtis Foster an G Timo Pielmierer

Oh man, Foster was actually kinda awesome :/ hate how he was in the doghouse a lot...

Byebye Timo though. You won't be missed.

Devils-age(... do you even exist?), who are these players?

You're just mad because Kessel has a fat face.

Socreges - sorry to post and run earlier. Yes that stuff was all borderline illegal. You should know that playing "on the edge" is a hallmark of this Bruins team. This is the punishment that any top player might need to endure. Sid wasn't ready for it and it's probably best that it was exposed now and not the way Savard got hammered in his last game.

Lucic, strong hockey play, old time hockey, blah blah etc...

This guy gets it.

Some guy in class before my final just said, "you catch sports center this morning about crosby (I'm wearing a flyers sweatshirt), yesss "- *fist pump*

Me: smh, as much as I hate the pens, this isn't a thing to cheer about.

I mean yea.... still.... anything that improves our chances.... I'm kinda happy, in a "I totally know I should't be" sort of way.

As I bury my face in my hands, I feel a great sadness descend. A thought pricks my mind: I may be seeing the beginning of the end of a living legend who never gets to fulfill his destiny to its fullest. I may be seeing a young man with the most inspirational work ethic I have ever witnessed...fall. A man who is still 3 years away from hitting his prime, and who still has so much to give...fall. In a world of heroes, few reach the status of icon. In a world that is so full of ego and bravado, it is hard to be inspired by an athlete not only for his ability, but for his personality outside of his arena.

Sidney Crosby is more than a hockey player to me. He is a symbol of the greatness one is capable of through dedication, commitment, passion, loyalty, and hard work.

Whatever happens, I hope he does what's best for his health.

Well, if you're in Philadelphia it is.

As a Flyers fan who has already seen Lindros and Primeau lost to concussions when they should have been in the prime of their careers (and had players like Roenick, Gagne, Kapanen and now Giroux affected by them) I can't cheer any player having his career cut short by a head injury. Except that scumbag Scott Stevens.

Terry Murray finally got fired and Stevens is our interim coach. Now I'm not sure who to blame if the Kings continue to suck. Hopefully DL brings in the right guy for this team.

I would cheer him getting hit by a car... I might do it for Brodeur too, but I'd feel bad later. Those are those kinds of hatred you develop as a kid. I hate Malkin but since I'm older I recognize he might be a person.... maybe. Stevens and Brodeur? They're the equivalent of power rangers bad guys. I just can't feel bad for them.

I hope not. Richards and Quick have been the only guys who have given it their all every game. It's pretty sad, but Richards' has been the heart and soul of this team and that's why it's been so bad since he's been hurt.

Not like the Bruins needed any more extra reason to be despised. Now Krejci has this on his hands.

Troll post? I'll bite before history is rewritten by bitter Vancouver fans.

Are we really saying this was an intentional elbow? really?

1. Crosby was crouched down.
2. Krejci's elbow was up way before Crosby made contact.
3. Krejci had his back to him and was defending the puck.

Incidental contact.

Watch it at live speed at the beginning of the clip and tell me with a straight face that was intentional.

Stevens is better than all of the players you listed there buddy.

I tend to agree, but Simmonds didn't mean to hit Giroux AND he's on the Flyers and I still kinda want to kick him in the nuts. I think that's more the point.

Lindros was on there. You are wrong.
