Giant Bombcast - | 12-13-2011 |

Ooh, another Bombcast! I wonder if they hit all the right beats this time.

The incredibly boring and slow start is part of why I don't like Twilight Princess so I'm sad to hear Skyward Sword suffers from that too.

For what it's worth, the beginning at least takes less time than the one in Twilight Princess. I absolutely understand people getting frustrated with there being one at all, though; text prompts that can't be skipped are rough as well. There is some really brilliant stuff to be found in the game, but I suppose it takes some patience to get there.

Oh god, if Vinny is already feeling the hate this early in Skyward Sword he is going to hate this game overall. While it does pick up and the dungeons are great fun those slow moments never, ever go away. "Slow" is probably the best way to describe the game overall.

So, SWG thing has been on the site for months.

Ryan doesn't know anything about the ending, just got out of the starting area. Jeff asks if they're doing anything special, Ryan's like "ask me anything..."

The Battle Comes To An Explosive End

We all know that Star Wars Galaxies will end on December 15th, 2011, but did you know that how Star Wars Galaxies ends is up to you?

Beginning in September, the ongoing Galactic Civil War will escalate further as both sides seek to decisively win the epic conflict. In addition to all of the current Galactic Civil War activities, new events and contests will provide you with new ways to earn Galactic Civil War points and advantages you can use to help your side win.

At a time and date yet to be announced, but prior to December 15th, all Galactic Civil War points will be tallied by server. The side with the higher score will win the game, and the galaxy, for each server, as well as change the way the game will end and what happens in the final moments. Celebrations will be in order for those who win and, for the losers, let's just say they'll be going out with a bang.

Neutral players will also see new decorations in the Storyteller system that will allow them to host their own shutdown events if they choose to opt out of the final battles in the Galactic Civil War.
Literally 90 seconds in google. 90 seconds.

Nobody played Joe Danger because it was on PSN? By that logic the same can be said about Limbo coming to PSN. Don't be such an ignorant Xbot Ryan Davis.

Is dubstep a new thing in America or are the GB guys just really behind the times?

The way they talk about it you would think it's 2009.

Dubstep became a thing for me and I guess the GB crew when it became so prominent in game trailers.

Also Vinny's Zelda comment now make me not want to play Skyward Sword. I hate shit like that.

It's just weird because Jeff is a big music guy and I'm really not, yet I've known about dubstep for ages. Perhaps it's just because I'm in my early 20s. Ryan on Twitter last night made it seem like dubstep was this brand new thing, so I got curious about its popularity in the States.

I am from Germany and like I said Dubstep wasn't a thing for me until it appeared in so many game trailers.

Dubstep isn't anything new anywhere but the rise in popularity certainly is. It's used in everything now and even shitty new metal bands like korn are making dubstep albums.

They, like a lot of people, are misunderstanding the purpose of the reticule centring in Skyward Sword. It's not there to correct a loss in calibration accuracy - whenever you start aiming it takes the current remote position as the neutral point. Pressing down to recentre is just for when you start aiming from a position which doesn't allow you to aim as you like, for example if the current position doesn't allow to you move the remote down far enough when you want to aim down.
Whether or not you point at the screen, it doesn't matter. It's an air mouse, not a light gun.
I might email them, it's far better when you realise what it's doing and that you can aim from anywhere without ever worrying about constantly recentring.

It been around for some time, but there's been a rise in mainsteam popularity lately.

The Joe Danger comment, followed by the remark people don't buy stuff on PSN was uncalled for. The reason for its initial release on PSN was pretty much the other way around:

Joe Danger is On PSN Because XBLA is 'A Slaughterhouse' for Indies
http://www.1up.com/news/joe-danger-psn-xbla-slaughterhouse

Hello Games chose to make Joe Danger a PlayStation Network exclusive, apparently because the indie developer lacked faith in Xbox Live Arcade. GamesIndustry.biz reports that the company's Sean Murray spoke at the Develop Conference today, and didn't show much confidence in Microsoft's independent support.

"Why choose PSN? It was the only way we could self-publish," he said. "XBLA is kind of a slaughterhouse for smaller developers. There are games that do amazingly well. But there's two titles released every week and a lot of those are falling in that 25,000 or less category." Murray used his own independent figures, which he noted aren't official. He claims 47% of self-published XBLA titles sold less than 25,000 copies, 23% sold around 100,000 copies, 13% sold 200,000 copies, and 17% sold more than 200,000. Joe Danger sold 50,000 copies on the PSN in the first week alone.

Totally disagree with Vinny about the start of SS, I thought it was a charming introduction to the world. I really think he's exaggerating about how slow the game is, although the pace is certainly slower than your average "always on 11" game.

I'm playing through the Gears series right now (on 2 at the moment) so the somewhat more deliberate pace of SS is a welcome change to me. I don't mind the pace of either series, though.

did he actually say that?

fucking ryan you ignorant peace of shit. lol

Sure he said that, but that was after mentioning he booted up the Xbox version for some achievement. And then talked at length about some crappy board game on XBLA.

Ryan just has shit taste in games.

Gotta disagree. There's nothing in the game even as remotely as slow as the beginning.

Patrick and Ryan are completely wrong when it comes to the stereo mixes of the Beatles music. They didn't "record mono songs" and just put them in stereo or whatever the hell Patrick said. The recorded masters that they then mixed them into either stereo or mono by the people at EMI. The Beatles themselves didn't even get totally involved in the mixing until Rubber Soul, their sixth album. EMI did pay more care to the mono mixes, sure, but to say that the early Beatles stuff in mono is "awful" is utter nonsense and completely incorrect. It wasn't even like all of the singles and albums were better in mono until Abbey Road where they only mixed in stereo. Help! sounds considerable worse in mono, and Sgt. Pepper sounds just as fantastic in stereo even though George Martin himself will tell you Pepper in mono is superior. Also, the White Album is totally better in stereo than it is in mono.

I guess this is just another example of them ignorantly talking about something and me getting overly annoyed. Whatever, they won't even read this.

I came in to point this out. Thank you. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have the cock-sure attitude about it. This bit was forehead slappingly ignorant.

While your language is somewhat uncouth, I agree with what you're saying. It seems an oddly outdated attitude to the service. It's partly why I appreciate having patrick on the podcast, I mean, he downloaded and played where is my heart. Hell, he reviewed it for the site. He has my respect for that, our site really loved that game, and seeing it get more attention from bigger sites is really great to see :D

The VGA discussion was pretty good. The only problem I had was with comparing it to the Oscars. I agree that for most part, they're both bad but the Oscars are sucky in a wanky way while the VGAs are sucky in a trashy way. Outside of them both being award shows, I don't think they're that comparable to one another.

Ryan and the others talk to the devs who make these PSN games. They probably have a better idea of how these things sell on average than the people in this thread.

The GB crew has always been brazenly opinionated and overly cocksure about lots of topics. That's what makes conversations more interesting, and funny when/if they realize they're wrong.

From the comments in the thread, I went in expecting Vinny to completely be ripping Zelda but it's nowhere nearly that bad or negative. Once again, GB GAF overreacts to something.

So that's why it's on XBLA now....
It's on XBLA now because the exclusivity deal is over and surprise, another platform means more potential buyers and thus more money. Same reason why Limbo, Braid, Castle Crashers and what have you eventually made the jump to PSN.

Honestly, at this point I just sigh, shake my head and let it go. Dumb-ass remarks regarding PSN or the PS3 are simply expected and best just ignored. Besides, I don't visit the site for well informed opinions. I visit the site to watch/listen to their highly entertaining personalties.

Exactly. A recent example being Jeff making the PS3 data transfer process sound like the worst nightmare in the world and none of them knowing it's actually very simple. Like you, Giant Bomb for me is all about the personalities and humour, not well informed opinion.

To be fair they said on the next podcast that they were totally wrong about it.

And it apparently used to be a big issue, but they updated it since Jeff had done it. Don't know if that is true or not.

I was hoping for some Corpse Party impressions. Someone find that PSP! I do love how they are bringing smaller games into the podcast like Wheres My Heart and Pushmo. Its something that was missing earlier this year IMO

Haven't played Skyward Sword but Vinny's bit with the talking and the Z-targeting was great.

Its cute Vinny thinks hating Zelda won't win him any friends. If he praises Zelda we love him for his enthusiasm and if he hates Zelda we love him for his honesty or humor. You can't hate the guy!

Nobody played Joe Danger because it was on PSN? By that logic the same can be said about Limbo coming to PSN.

Seemed like Jeff wanted to say something there but decided to just move the podcast along.
