Hey Gaf, I'm thinkin' of adding Bakuman to my list of anime to watch, but I'm wondering how good of an adaption it is to the manga source material. Is it a solid show or should I go with the manga?

I haven't read the manga, but I enjoyed the first season. It is a slow burner and the ideas are incredibly repetitive; however, if you watch the first episode and enjoy it, the rest of the series follows along a similar rhythm.

I found the anime to be an excellent adaptation of the source. Mainly the mini manga in the series get so much more focus at times. I usually follow along with the manga to the point of each episode. I enjoy it.

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention that I've read the first volume, so I know what I'm getting into narrative-wise, I was just worried that by watching the anime there would be changes/cuts that fans found controversial, or if the animated medium isn't suited for this sort of property.

Infinite Stratos
... I mean, I do find it hard to imagine paying the kinds of amounts Japanese anime fans pay to buy that stuff (actually wanting to spend that kind of money for a funny-awful show like IS?), but ... they are, and hey, at least it has entertainment value... obviously there are much better ways to use your money, but... oh well.
No, it's time ti start judging damnit. I'm judging all parties involved. The fans for buying the crap and the creators for making the crap! Even if one liked the basic Infinite Stratos premise(why God?) theirs nothing saying it had to be done so poorly.
I know it's been suggested, but maybe some of them like Houki too. I would think she'd be at least somewhat popular there.
Why? Has she done something likable? Is her personality charming? You're not saying she's popular just because she's Japanese are you, you calling those fans that choose Houki Francophobes?
Nobody wants the Yoriko avatar? Too bad... (Sorry, I don't either. I do like the character, but I don't change my avatar.)
Haha, I actually expected it.

The Yoriko avatar's still available for anyone brave enough to don it! Join Firehawk and I!

Toriko 36

Man, what a feel good ending to an excellent arc. Komatsu gets an awesome speech and we're all given hope for the future. Now it's just time to get out of this place and... wait a minute, who is that? Oh shit, it's not over yet!? Wait,
Setsuno!? What the fuck is she doing there!?

OMG EPIC ESCAPE TIME!

I'm hoping Setsuno starts talking about CEEEEENNNNTUUUUURRYYYY SSSOOUUUPUUUU....oh and that she hulks up and kicks some ass

Never saw Pita Ten.
Always wanted fo see it.

I'll be honest, I usually don't include pita-ten in my 3 tiers of moe mostly out of respect for the manga, which had a pretty awesome ending. Anime was 26 episodes of filler though...
Filler is ok as long as it is sufficiently cute.
This is known as the law of calculated arrhythmia.

Bakuman is great.
Actually all the manga, doujin, cosplay related anime are fun shows.
Cosplay Complex, doujin works, welcome to the NHK, comic party, otaku no video, Genshiken, Bakuman.

Someone should start it now.

I dunno, who here has the time and energy to bother?

We should just give it to wandering son or something and call it a day. The more interesting award would be stupidest scene of 2011, in which case the end of Idolmaster 23 would take the cake.

Mind Game and Grrl Power > Eureka Seven and Samurai Champloo
Dennou Coil and Gurren-Lagann > Seirei no Moribito and Mononoke

Fun fact: Maasaki Yuasa is the director that has been awareded the most by the Media Art Awards.

I wonder if anyone else has actually watched Grrl Power...

Wandering Son = faux high-brow animu aimed at hipsters and middle-aged moms

Madoka: honest low-brow animu that's easily accessible and appealing to all

Wandering Son = faux high-brow animu aimed at hipsters
That's a term I would save for clusterfuck animu like Bakemonogatari. Wandering Son's subject matter may not be something usually tackled by the medium, but in no way its attempts to deal with transgender issues feel "faux" at any moment.
Ww all know the real winner of 2011 is tiger and bunny, not madoka. Bros before hoes.
That's a funny way of spelling Mawaru-Penguindrum.
