Revolutionary Girl Utena 21
Nanami got face planted so often already and is still unlikable and selfish as in the beginning. Any kind of character development did pass around her. If she at least had retained her hair from her BR episode.
Nanami is a glorious character from day, why do people fail to grasp this?

fate/zero - 7 & 8

I wish that some of the stuff between Kirei and Kiritsugu had gone unspoken, but the tie is still there, and knowing how Kirei turns out later on, I wonder if he seeks in the other a validation or refutation for his own beliefs. He's in for some disappointment.

Really enjoying this now - the duel between
Kayneth and Kiritsugu
was pretty awesome stuff. This is waking up the type-moon nerd in me (could shiki kill a servant?) and it doesn't feel bad at all. I do wonder if the people not familiar with the universe just hear a lot of the magic talk as jargon and blabber.

As for the CG overall, as used in the show, I still have mixed feelings about it. Sometimes it works because it looks oddly appropriate for a substance like, say, mercury, but then you have the car in episode 6 or . . . Berserker, who never quite looks like he belongs in the show.

I would imagine so. TM as a guilty pleasure helps immensely with me enjoying the show despite its issues.

Except episode 1, nothing can salvage that, but that ship has sailed by now obviously.

Maken-Ki 9-10 - Yes, I am still watching this sexist atrocity.

Ep. 9 - This episode is typical Maken-Ki, and by that I mean it is awful, intolerably stupid, almost certainly sexist, and bad in general as well. In this episode, the boys of the school want mixed-gender swimming lessons, instead of having each gender separately, because they want to look at the girls in swimsuits. The girls don't want to because apparently they don't want to be seen in swimsuits. Instead of just rejecting them, the people in charge decide to have a match decide things, and go with the boys's suggestion, a water-horse challenge. That is, that game you always see in anime sports festivals with the person standing on other peoples' shoulders, except played in the pool.

So, they have a match. Would it be much of a spoiler to say that despite the fact that there is no plausible way they could have won, really, the boys win anyway? No, I don't think it would be. And of course, the MC is the last one standing, and the one who wins the match for the boys, despite being entirely undeserving and certainly not good enough to be able to beat most of the girls he gets the headbands off of. Sure, some of it is with dirty tricks (
like saying something to one of the girls that he likes that distracts her and taking her headband afterwards
), and he only wins in the end because
one of the girls is distracted by a new character showing up at the door of the pool
, but still, it was really stupid. It's not that I wanted the girls to win, really (this anime thing of having gender-separated gym classes is really stupid and I don't think much of it; and yes, the boys had poor reasons for wanting to have a mixed class, but if it'd been like that all along it'd be less of an issue... anyway.), it's just that the entire concept of the show has been that the girls are better at fighting and stuff than the boys thanks to the Makens, and then I'm supposed to find this credible? Yeah, no. Not at all. Anyway, at the end, there's a stupid little twist, so
even though the class is mixed, the girls all use someones' maken that turns them invisible so they boys can't see them.
Sigh... that's supposed to be funny or something? It wasn't, it was just stupid.

The characters could move around somewhat hilariously fast in the water, too... people walking through water like that would not have been able to move anywhere near that quickly. :lol But bad everything is what this show does best. So yeah, this episode was awful like usual, and barely tolerable (again like usual).

Ep. 10 - This episode surprised me -- it's almost certainly the best episode of Maken-Ki yet, and it's probably the closest the show has been to actually being funny. Now, it still fails as an episode of course -- there isn't an episode of this show that deserves a passing grade -- but it's the closest to passing that the show has been yet. Ultimately though it was still pretty bad in a lot of ways. It's just a bit more amusing than most of them.

This episode is focused on that new character who I referenced in the ep. 9 review above. She's got long white hair and often keeps her eyes closed, but can see with her hearing or something. She's another one of the Venus group girls, so she's another foreigner. She is fairly genre-aware too, and does some amusing things like calling the three main girls the MC's harem and then asking them about their love interests. Note -- the guy was not here for the conversation, which is part of why it was funny; he generally makes scenes he's in worse simply by being in them because of how awful he is, so his not being there for a good part of this episode was a very good thing indeed. Anyway, the blonde twintail girl denies liking him (but says there was a guy she liked once in the past but they couldn't be together or something), but the tsundere childhood friend sort of admits it, and the girl who has proclaimed to be his fiancee obviously does. The new character also says something like "harem stories are supposed to be the standard for this country", which was kind of amusing maybe (again, in that too genre-aware way). Tsundere childhood friend's response is a less than convincing "W-what country are you talking about" or something like that. :p Another thing she does is that when she first appears, she causes some wind to blow up and expose several girls' panties. She somehow sees what patterns are on their underwear with her hearing, and can even hear what logo is on the back of the panties, facing away from her. Impressive! (Yes, it was incredibly, incredibly stupid. So moronic it was funny? Um... borderline, I guess?)

As for the MC, his main role in this episode is to be annoying as always, and he again intervenes in a fight, but this is the first time where he was actually justified, I think -- a girl and guy were fighting, and the girl had completely crushed teh guy and even though he'd lost she was still hurting him by breaking his bones and such. Yeah, not nice. The MC tried to stop her. He failed, but through the power of determination could sort of reject her control magic. Why? Because he's the MC and can override anything with the power of belief and has super-awesome powers he can only sort of control, of course, why else? Always expect the worst of subpar anime themes in this show.

At the end of the episode, we see that the new girl has challenged the blonde twintail girl to .. .something. Apparently twintail actually has some super-powerful power inside of her
was that her with snake eyes, and what was with that background?
What IS inside of her anyway... it's something dangerous apparently though, and she claims to have it under control but the Venus group isn't sure or something. We'll see next episode, maybe. Oh, while this was going on, the other two girls were cooking, because you know, that's what girls do for fun, right?

.

As long as death can be seen by mystic eyes! They should just throw Fate characters into Melty Blood, port that shit to PS3 so we can find out and call it a day.

Shoe is so derp it hurts. The first thirty seconds of the new Guilty Crown episode is about as bad as it gets for anime protagonists.

Having a different lead wouldn't necessarily make it a better show, but at least, it wouldn't be as frustrating to watch.

Question for AnimeGAF.

I didn't finish FMA: Brotherhood (got to 15 and then didn't continue because... frankly I don't remember), but I'm sitting with all the Bluray sets in my Amazon cart for $108.

Is the rest of the series worth it to buy it all?

such SWAG, too

Having a good lead would take the show in entirely new directions from what I can tell from everyone's hate. Having a stupid plot is okay when you have a healthy dose of AWESOME, which is why Wheelchair Moe got so much attention. From the sound of it though, it doesn't look to have all that much AWESOME going for it...

It was a good anime series on Blu-Ray and the sound quality and visuals was nice. Though I bought it over time and on day 1 so probably double that price, I would definitely get it, unless funimation is supposed to have another sale soon?

Still debating whether or not to getFate Zero boxzet.
I can afford it but is it really worth 350 bucks?
Will there be a cheaper release?

Its a good show unfortunately, you stopped watching just when the shows stopped being mediocre and made a turn around after the first 15 episode or so, but not wroth $100.

Aniplex USA doing an import release is a sign that there will not be a cheaper domestic release ever. It's possible they might put them up for a cheaper price to rent on somewhere like PSN, like they did for Kara no Kyoukai.

Does the set even come with the whole series, or just the first cour?

Just the first 13 episodes.

I don't think it's worth a hundred-plus bucks, but it's a pretty good show.

Thanks for the feedback. Hm... decisions decisions... Well, in the mean time.

Takoyaki and Natsu Matsuris are a great way to make friends 11:

I think I've figured out why Sena is the character I'm liking the most now. It's that besides Kodaka, and even more so than him, she's the only character who's actually trying to make friends with the rest of the cast (and Yozora in particular for whatever reason). Yozora is a bitch to the core, Rika is awesome at times but her schtick of just wanting in Kodaka's pants is getting old, Yukimura is just a mindless drone awaiting orders from his(?) master, and the less said of the lolis the better. Sena is awkward to be sure, they all are, but the others just really don't seem to give a shit.

Anyway, the item they've been teasing for several episodes is finally address here. Finally.

guilty crown - 10

Trainwreck potential rising! Some bits of comedy here and there - like Shoe crying while eating a plate of badly-made riceballs, or him trying to make moves on the friendzone girl - unintentional as they may be. It's impossible to take the story seriously but if there's a lot of collateral damage, sign me the fuck up.

Also let it be known that the black guy died first.

Kaiji Ball Z (Season 2)

So many episodes with singular developments. This show would have been vastly better at 13 episodes.

I don't remember committing to this, but I guess I'll have to unless I want my current reputation as a flake to worsen even further.
So you agree that they should all just forget the whole thing ever happened, then?

I saw it as Nanami being the first (and based on the whole exchange maybe the only one)
Who realized they had been played and that their further involvement was meaningless
