PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

I just picked up my 3G PS Vita preorder and snagged a 16 GB card along with Uncharted and Minna no Golf. The memory cards are pretty dang small.

I remember seeing more people when the 3DS launched, but there was still a good number of people. I am amazed at all the periphal crap people buy.

Now I just got to set it up. I wish I had taken it easy at the Bonenkai last night. I need a hangover cure...

Allow me expand on my earlier statements and give you some personal context. My background is a relatively shooter oriented one. I've played all three Uncharteds, 1 and 3 on hard and 2 on Crushing. I however didn't notice the aiming problem in 3 but I also knocked the sensitivity up to max before I started playing. I also have a background in other shooters.

The graphics seem to be full of aliasing. This is especially apparent when in motion and on the character models. The few cutscenes I've seen aren't up to ND's standards also. The texture work is pretty good for the most part. This however is not the equal of DF. It's somewhere below mainly due to the previously noted aliasing. Character models aren't up to PS3 levels also.

Now on to the aiming. It's a mess and that's with all motion controls disabled. I'll try tweaking it to see if it gets better but the fluidity of motion, speed, and overall crispness is not on par with the Uncharteds on the PS3. It honestly feels worse than DF.

Very interesting.

Need to get some more opinions.

I kind of knew uncharted vita wouldn't be all that, it's shame though.

Anyone get ridge racer vita and care to post some impressions?

Does it feel like the controls are (over)compensating due to the more limited range of the analog sticks?

Why are you talking like that's a lot of money? I mean, here in Australia, minimum wage is $16. How much is the minimum wage in the US?

it's $16? even with the amount of vacation you guys get each year? man.. it's like 9.40 in alberta right now, but our money is apparently monopoly money.

I need battery life tests, badly.

On varying levels of brightness (highest and lowest will do), with WiFi/3G on and off and with graphical intensive (Uncharted) and basic looking games (Lord of Apocalypse/PSP games). The best and worst case scenario at least (in between would be nice too!)

Also, how many apps can you have open while playing a game?

Is the tax rate high there? Min is $10.25 here in Ontario, Canada.

Vita question how long does it take to charge? I'm sure they don't sell the precharged

Still got a big-ass gift card on Amazon for the rest of games and a 32gb card, woooo

e~ oh tiny pic is blocked, oh well use your imagination

Of the OECD countries, Australia has the highest minimum wage and the highest ratio of minium wage to average wage. This is adjusted to account for cost of living (PPP).

Anyway, I'm tempted to get one of these Vita things. Does remote play work out of the box or is it coming in a software update? Can I install US PSN games that I already own (PSP and PSone games, that is) on the JP version?

Cost of living makes a huge difference. Australia's is higher than the US.

Japan has a high cost of living and a high standard of living.

$8.50 or so.

0_0; Wow. Is that enough money to live in if you work 35 hours per week?

Sort of, if you're a med-high income earner. But not for minimum wage earner IIRC. When I was a student, I worked at McD and that was my rate ($16). And I was considered as "low-income earner" so I didn't have to pay a lot of taxes (if any).

How's the OLED screen compared to a smartphone's? Is the actual plastic casing over the front reflective and does visibility take a hit out in the sun?

Also, reports on battery life will be great.

Why is this thread getting clogged up with dumb talk about wages. Let's end it now, the raw amount of salary is irrelevant, all that matters is purchasing power. Comparing wages between two countries without any other context is as pointless as it gets.

More Vita talk now!

This is exaggerated for the bigger cities. Where I live cost of living is extremely cheap. The studio I live in now would probably cost triple what it is in a place like Tokyo or New York. Also throwing 8000 yen at a game, to me at least, is just the same as throwing $60 at it in the U.S. If you do the conversion it does sound outrageous, but at my income and cost of living here, it's perfectly normal. But of course I don't buy $60 games and I don't buy 8000 yen ones either because they always go down in price in a few weeks! Shit 13-2 is already 1000 yen cheaper on Amazon 2 days later.

Yeah, sorry for the diversion. As for Vita, any pics of the queue in Japan?

So this means all screens we saw were bullshots? Does the game allows you to take screenshots by yourself? If so, post them here!

I posted last night the same thing from my friend, Uncharted's stick controls are terrible. He's been playing today and it's just not very good.

Based on my own experience when playing it, they were most certainly bullshots. The game looks quite muddy and aliased on the screen itself (sub native res perhaps?)

The control complaints all seem to match up with my own experience at Eurogamer Expo too. The touch controls play the game for you, while the sticks just don't offer the accuracy that's really necessary for accurate shooting.

Which EA games are you referring to, specifically? I doubt they're as bad or as shameless as what Gameloft puts out.

Most of them. EA is just better about adding a different twist and they have very high production values, but most of their stuff these days is just a reaction to a successful game from another publisher.

Tons of people complain (and have complained) about EA's creative "missteps." Let's not be too flippant about the vitriol that gets directed towards them.

Also I need more info on Uncharted's controls.

Yeah, you're right. Though I will say that Gameloft's shooter on PSN was more interesting to me than either Medal of Honor or the BF3 single player campaign, for one.

Wow at the posters clambering over themselves to get a dig in against launch titles on a new system.

Not up to par with a PS3? ...... the fact that its being compared against a home console rather than the rival handheld gaming system speaks volumes.

I would like to see that too. And of course most of the screens were bullshots. Come on now.

I know they were... even the foliage was antialiased almost to Square-Enix levels. But I was certain we'd get 2X MSAA at least... but that title screenshot looks like it's not even running at native res.

Moar screen, please!

Does the console feature multi-language options, or just japanese for now?

after playing minna no golf for half an hour, "sub native res" was my first thought. it looks like the GBA games on 3DS.

game plays and basically looks great so it's no big deal (especially for launch), but i have to wonder about resolution.

Thx! Impressive. Considering how cold it must have been by now in Japan, it never cease to amaze me how people still line up anyway.

it's +7 C right now, so it probably wasn't that bad. even if it was 0, that's weather i could stand in if i had gloves and a hat.

You can take screenshots and upload them here

Someone posted this screen on another forum

Damn, when Vita was announced I was hoping this kind of shit wouldn't happen on a handheld. I can tolerate it on the 3DS for BC purposes, but on native games it's quite annoying. I'd prefer a lower resolution screen (800x400) if all games ran at native.
