Steamboy

Surely they could've put some of that $22 million USD towards writing a better ending. Other than that the production values were fantastic. Even the CG was well handled!

Steamboy is surely one of the biggest wastes of time, money and talent in recent time. Going from Akira to that is an incredible let down.

2d has no depth
how would the sphere have any spacial relation to the head (im also sure this is the method they probably used anyway)
I am not entirely sure if this is serious.

I'm talking about the 2D has no depth part.

I don't understand, if they have the scene animated already they know exactly how large the head should be, and they can adjust the sphere accordingly.

I'm not even talking about physics engines, for something as minor as this it's an overkill.

Just do it by hand.

PGSM Ep. 26 C'est la Vie

So much great back story laid out this episode, but it doesn't even matter because...
SAILOR FUCKING LUNA!!!!!

I am not ready.

Hitokage put it best: "PGSM begins now"

Damn straight.

I'd have to see it in motion again to really say anymore.

Well I recently had the pleasure of viewing The Girl Who Leapt Through Time in a theatre setting and the movie looked gorgeous, even those CG 'falling through time' sequences that I had always found a bit ugly at home. However, those beads did not look good!

Maybe it's a minor complaint (maybe) but to place it in two movies is shocking.

Maybe someone working on the movies really wanted them in and he owed them a favor or something. I mean I can't think of another explanation.

YuruYuri season 2 is on the way, people.

Speaking of which, Aniplex just put up a trailer with the first Madoka dub footage, and revealed the rest of the cast:

Cassandra Lee - Kyubey
Christine Marie Cabanos - Madoka Kaname
Cristina Vee - Homura Akemi
Carrie Keranen - Mami Tomoe
Lauren Landa - Kyōko Sakura
Sarah Williams - Sayaka Miki

Madoka Magica English-Dubbed Trailer Streamed

I like this dub. Sounds good.

The girl who leapt through time

Blah blahblah HNNNG Makoto and stuff.

Music score
Completely forgettable, am not even sure it had any music since I don’t remember any of it, except for some track that played near the end, maybe am being on unfair on the movie since I watched “the little norus prince” the night before which had a beautiful sound track vastly superior score that am still humming now.

7.5/10 for makoto alone, I would of gave it a higher score if the last 35mins had never happened.

The music score is forgettable? I LOVE this particular track:

Who is that red haired girl second from the right on the bottom? Never seen her before.

Golden Boy

After I saw some Golden Boy gifs (@funny picture thread) I marathoned all 6 episodes of the OVA this morning.
It was soooo good. I cried and laughed at the same time.

And Reiko was so hnnng!

YOU'LL NEVER COMPARE TO HER BIMO BABY.

Such a great OVA, and not just because of the fanservice, but because of how the show ended on an actual sensical and clever note. I must warn everyone though, Doug smith is a complete jerk asshole IRL. I cant really tell you why. Its something he did to friends of mine.
But his voice for the part is pretty perfect.

"Only watches Golden Boy dubbed"

Where did you want it to go?

Well, I can't speak for cwarrior, but I'd have liked it to have slightly less 'endings'. I felt it didn't really know where it wanted to stop, so it kept stopping, and then carrying on, and then stopping again. A little bit like Lord of the Rings: Return of the King syndrome, except not quite as bad.

OH DEAR GOD THIS IS SO BEING PREORDERED
The language used in this product description fascinates me:
Do you like maids? Do you like cute maids? Well, then you'll love this adorable figure of Kuroneko from Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai (OreImo, My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute). Kuroneko is an eccentric girl who always wears cat ears, a tail, and red contact lenses. Here she's showing off her cosplay skills in a classic French Maid outfit, frills and all. She turns to look at you over her shoulder, gracefully swishing her skirt to display her sheer black stockings. Only Kuroneko could pull off a maid outfit with such elegance! Goes great with this figure of her friend Kirino, also dressed as a maid. This PVC figure measures approximately 19cm (7.5") in height.

This is one of my fav OVAs and I don't care if I'm a pervert for it. It's extremely well animated and has some incredibly funny bits.

That's actually a REALLY cute figure! o_O I'm not spending $130 on it though.

Fat Xerox Ep12

All I could think of throughout this episode was this mental image of Gilgamesh and Kotomine in a shower room, and they're both naked, and Kirei is being all shy and shameful and looking away while Gilgamesh starts to rub oil all over his body in a really erotic and slow way, trying to draw out all the pleasure in Kirei, with him trying to resist every step of the way, but not doing anything to actually stop it.

I'm sorry if this was too graphic for some of you, but you'll understand when you see the episode.

Oh man can't wait to catch this later. Sad there's only 1 week left though :(

I don't think the sound track was bad just that it didn't stand out, except for maybe 1 or 2 tracks that played for like 1min in an 1hour and 35min movie.

The track I liked was this one

[Otaku no Video OVA (Episodes 1 & 2) - 1991]

This is a rather strange title. It's not easy to pin down what genre this work is, so I'll just describe it. It's kind of like a romanticised depiction of the creation of Studio Gainax, filled with energy and passion for the otaku spirit, mixed together with fake documentary footage (live action) that pokes fun at and mocks a variety of otaku traits and lifestyles (not to mention countless in jokes and references to older anime and science fiction in general, most of which I got, which is worrying).

OtakuNoVideo3.jpg

If you think those two stories sound like they are in conflict with one another then you're correct. However, the conflict between these two different depictions of 'otaku' are not conflicting enough to cause the show to fall apart, largely because both parts of the show are rather light-hearted in tone. However, the live action segments don't really pull any punches in terms of their depiction of otaku, as they can be seen engaging in a variety of strange and bizarre behaviours such as recording every single episode of an anime but never watching it (because he didn't have the time).

OtakuNoVideo1.jpg

It's kind of sad, watching this in a world where GAINAX is pretty much totally dead. Perhaps you could argue they've been that way for awhile, but now these days it's truer than ever. Whatever your opinion about GAINAX's earlier output, there's no denying that they were some of the most passionate, driven 'otaky' that one could ever hope to imagine. Their passion and self-belief must have been monotonous to produce the kind of works they made back then. While the characters in Welcome to the NHK dream of making a porn-game, the heroes of Otaku no Video want to conquer the world.

OtakuNoVideo2.jpg

In reality of course, when a bunch of passionate fans of say, science fiction and animation, come together to do something like run a business, it's pretty obvious that there are going to be numerous problems, not the least of which was their terrible accounting system and general inability to not get totally screwed when negotiating (see Nadia). I suppose this whole experience has been rather depressing.

Would I recommend Otaku no Video to the average anime fan? Probably not, considering it's kind of more interesting as a historical text and as one studio's vision of its self than as a piece of entertainment.

I can't say I remember ever feeling that was a problem. The real ending seemed pretty obvious to me.
