NHL December |OT| The Team You Cheer For is Not Good Compared To Our Team

I wanted Boucher as well, but I want a more offence based coach, I just hope they don't give up quality for language again in the offseason.....

Boucher is just a younger, more passionate Martin. But a Martin nonetheless. We need someone who wants to play aggressive forechecking hockey.

I heard Martin already has a new job....

Cunneyworth has said that the team needs to play to their strengths. That alone gives me hope that instead of the JM model of jamming square blocks (speedy, offensive players) into round holes (trap defense, no forecheck), we will start playing the way a team with our make-up should.

Weren't you the #1 Martin ballwasher when they went to the conference finals and took Bruins to 7 games last year? Martin was some guru defensive specialist who got so much out of the team. Now he can't coach?

Have to agree. He took that Habs team and they beat the Caps and Pens back to back. Then he took the Habs to game 7 against the eventual Cup winners in Boston.

If anything, he overachieved with the Habs. I honestly don't see this as Martin's fault.

I know you're trollling, but I'll give you what you want.

Yes, I was a huge supporter of his for a long time. He outcoached and outclassed Boudreau and Bylsma in the 2010 playoffs. But hockey is a results based sport and the results haven't been there last season or this one. When things got really bad this season he showed an inability and/or unwillingness to change his system and style to combat it. He evetually lost a number of the players. That always marks the end of a coach's shelf life. Leaving Martin in there would have been tantamount to giving up on the season.

I was hoping we'd see Varlamov in net against Neuvirth tonight but his back is bothering him tonight so he's not playing. Tonight is a must win since Nail is calling.

Drove home and missed the game. I'm glad. Yet another concussion to our next star player? Lol I'm starting to lose interest completely in the league/flyers. It's almost like a joke.

Like whats the point in watching when giroux, couter, prongs, and schenn? What the fuck?

I feel your pain man; at least regarding injuries. Sabres can't catch a break either, and while our injuries don't seem to be concussions (your organization says WAY MORE than ours does, which is frustrating), having so many players out is killing my excitement. I know the league is hyper-aware, but I hope it subsides at some point because so many injuries are happening, I can't even remember it being like this. Probably because it wasn't. A lot of them seem to be from incidents that nothing can be done to prevent them as well.

AHL with a TV deal soon?

It's not trolling man it's the truth. You recognized that Martin got those guys to play over their heads.
Is it his fault Cammaleri can't score anymore? Is it Martins fault Eller can't finish or Markov can't stay healthy? Habs should have shaken up the team with the underachievers being shipped out.

He fit 2 years ago. He no longer does. The life of a coach. What he did in 2010 was fantastic, but then every team learned how to play the Habs and it was game over.
I'm not disagreeing with you. I just thought it was funny that you could have said that a week ago and it still would have applied perfectly - but with a negative meaning.

No, but in the case of Cammy and Eller, he did not utilize either one even remotely well. I flat out think Cammy quit on him. Which of course makes my respect for Cammy take a dip.

Is it his fault that PG signed Markov and expected him as a starter. That Campoli and other D men got hurt? That Cammy and Pleks have done fuck all?

So when it fits to everyone's arguments Halak was the only reason we beat Caps and Pens, and now it's because of Martin's coaching? He's outdated and needed to go, his treatment of the young guys was ridiculous, and stuff like playing Darche on the PP more then Cole, AK, and Patches is borderline autistic, Martin needed to adapt and he didn't.

Who's trolling? I'm thrilled for the Habs and for the league.

Thats true.

What really killed Martin I think was the several blown leads in 3rd periods. Martin would have the team sit back when they were playing well two or three goals up only for the lead to slip away.

LOL the French speaking Montreal media is already complaining that Randy Cunneyworth doesn't speak French

Actually this is a good thing because he will get more piece and quiet from the Montreal based journalists that can get annoying

I think benching Leblanc in the 3rd last game really pissed off the fans too, that's their hometown boy who just scored his first goal.

The Montreal (french) media is so fucking ridiculous.

Wait till he loses 1 game and can't answer a question in French.

Nope. But it IS his fault for:

1. Having an irrational hatred of rookies/young players. More often than not this season our rooks and second year players have been our best, and what does Martin do? Reward them with more ice time and responsibility? LOL no, try benchings and 4th line demotions.
2. Having irrational faith in underperforming vets. It doesn't matter how poorly Cammy, Gio or Gomez ever played, because Martin would NEVER cut their minutes to send them a message.
3. Having the team play a trap system which has not been effective since the 2010 playoffs.
4. Not utilizing an aggressive forecheck when he has a team filled with speedy players tailor made for the role.
5. Either having his team try to sit back and defend one goal leads or not go off on his players for sitting back, whichever you prefer.
6. Refusing to break up completely dysfunctonal lines.
7. Breaking up consistently good lines.
8. Playing defensively brutal players like Cammy consistently on the PK.
9. Playing offensively brutal players like Darche consistently on the PP.
10. Etc.

And Gauthier is just as much at fault as Martin. For two supposed best friends, Martin and Gauthier had fucking terrible communication with respect to personnel. How in the fuck does a GM keep acquiring offensively minded players while the Coach wants to run a defensive system? Gauthier also put WAY too many eggs in the Markov basket and had no backup plan. Gauthier needs to be the next one out the door. And not just Gauthier, but Gainey needs to go with him.

Habs playoff run was 3 equal parts: Halak channelling Roy, Cammy channelling LaFleur, and Martin channelling Scotty Bowman. If any of those three didn't occur, we don't beat the Caps.

Socreges quit hacking Solo's account.

Its this kind of 1940's era horseshit that is holding the franchise back from being among the elite again. You hire the best candidate for the job. Period. You don't throw archaic constraints like language into your criteria.

Unless you really want the next Habs coach to be Marc Crawford or Bob Hartley :/
