NHL December |OT| The Team You Cheer For is Not Good Compared To Our Team

This is a question mainly for Tabris or any Vancouver fans. Would you guys ever trade either of the Sedins? What would be your price?
I think this should be prefaced with the fact that the trade would be for both Sedins, or neither. They won't be separated. And if you want to consider that anyways, then I think it's another (more complicated) conversation.

Ever? Maybe. They could suddenly slow in a couple years (they're 31 now) and yet some team would still be willing to send an awesome package our way. Trading them wouldn't be sacrilege in my opinion, if that's what you're asking.

The reason why I think they'll retire here is that they love the city and they are exactly the kind of players that would take a discount to stay on board. Circumstances may change, though.

In all honesty the Sedins are pretty much the only reasons I'm still a huge Canucks fan, once Linden retired that was pretty much it for me, so if the canucks ever lose the "sisters" for whatever reason, that will pretty much be it for me. I'll still cheer for the nucks, but it will never be the same.

I'm old freaking school

Would I trade the Sedins? If the time and trade was right. They're in their prime right now though so there is absolutely no reason to. When that time couple possibly be I honestly have no idea, but personally I think those guys will (and want to) retire as Canucks.

With Crosby out, I don't think there's a team that could give us the 2 superstar players back that would do as well right now. The Sedins can just completely take over games sometimes, and while you can highlight their failures (Boston series, Nashville series, Chicago series the years before, the years before the last 2), they have come back the next year to fix the things they needed to fix to become better players. They are a lot like Crosby in that way.

The hard thing is there is nothing that compares right now out there but the Sedins only have 3 years of peak hockey left and around 5-8 years after that slowly declining. Thankfully due to their hockey sense and hands being their major skill, they should be able to last much longer in age than other players, but wouldn't last as long as a young combo of players.

I don't know, that's a tough question. I don't think I would due to us competing right now. You can give all the commentary you want about the playoffs, but they completely won 1 series for us and did really well in the other one. I know they've come back to improve those couple of things to win the cup this year.

Also they have the best contracts of any of the superstars currently. $6.1M per year with 3 years left (exactly the window for their best performances). Ovechkin+Backstrom is too expensive for what you get against the Sedins and how they've been running cold often. Crosby+Malkin is too much risk with knee and concussion. Getzlaf+Perry contract is running up very soon and they aren't consistent enough.

Maybe closest to what I would want (contract vs what they bring vs age) is Kane+Toews but we already have Kesler to facilitate what Toews brings, and they don't bring as much offensive power as the Sedins do (still tops of the league though) right now.

Just watched the leafs game. WTF at the second period, and WTF at schenn trying to rap it around instead of the easy pass to kessel.

I know we were in the box for like 10 minutes straight, but god dammit, can none of our goalies ever stand on their heads? It feels like we've never had Reimer or Gustavson steal us a game.

Oh and fire wilson.

Marvie weren't you upset about the Emery signing? I still think he's a pretty great choice for a backup and even #1 on a few teams....

his start as a hawk was rough, didn't look amazing in preseason, struggled early where the team bailed him out in a few games. He's been solid as of recently and Q tends to play the hot hand.

Teemu plays in Winnipeg tomorrow. Everything else is irrelevant.

Damn right. Return of the King. He's going to be cheered so much. Seriously one of the worst trades and days here in sports history when he left. Can't wait to see arguably the best player ever to have worn a Jets uniform again here.

The game itself is seemingly secondary to his mere arrival back here to play NHL hockey again.

I don't see how his reputation in Winnipeg hasn't been permanently tainted. People forget that Teemu played an extra two games in 92-93 to ensure he could get to 76 goals. He's a cheat.

What was his points total for those extra two games and how long was he injured for that season?

Smartphones, google and a few drinks and I never agreed on much.

I remember thinking "get this bum out of the net" during that early Edmonton game, I didn't watch preseason though, so I didn't really know what to expect from him. Been stellar recently.

That said, gotta get Crawford out of his slump, should play him Tues or Weds

Solo and Red_Man happy?

Jacques Martin was fired.

Classess move by the Habs. Jacques Martin is a devout Catholic, looking forward to the Christmas season and now he's "blessed" with being out of work 1 week before Christmas. What the fuck. This kind of bullshit will haunt the Habs for the rest of the season mark my words. Double B would never ruin someone's Christmas like this.

Top to bottom total lack of class from the Habs.

I've been "let go" from a job the day before Christmas break. Jacques Martin, I know the feel, bro. :(

It's like JM was having fun doing snow angels, PG saw him and gave him a snow job and then hit him in the back of the head as JM walked away. :(

Many corporations are godless. The Habs being one.

Double B should pick up the phone and hire Martin as special assistant to only coach the PK. Would make his Christmas.

Agreed, hope he turns it around. Fuck the ruthless Canadien organization. I got engaged to my wife the same night I was let go, so I was able to make the most out of a shitty situation (I had planned on doing it months before).

Just like Boudreau will turn it around with Anaheim, if they Fail for Nail they could be in great shape for a playoff run. Even if they get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs next year they will have accomplished nearly as much as the Capitols in recent years.

So ridiculous. If you can make a move to improve your team you need to do it. Who cares what day it is.

So Martin is canned, even though Gauthier is the one who supplied him the players. Who's honestly going to do better with the current batch of Canadiens? Maybe Eller has an uncle somewhere who's looking for work.

And I say this knowing full well it's exactly the same problem the Leafs fans face with respect to Burke and Wilson.

It's probably a desperate move by Pierre Gauthier because he knows if the team doesn't make the playoffs, he's out.

The franchise is a mess. Larry Carriere named assistant coach and he doesn't have any experience as a coach ? Really ?

Trolls are apparently tolerated in the NHL thread.

Not happy. Gauthier also needs to leave. Probably gonna be fired at the end of the year. Here come the Patrick Roy speculations.

Patrick Roy would fit for a Quebec team, not Montreal. I wouldn't trust him with a coach position.

Firing a guy one week before Christmas is a pretty douche move if it won't make a difference, and we all know this move isn't going to do anything. Manics is right, BB would never do anything this classless.

Yeah it's going to be amazing. I won't recount my fav Teemu story again, but the guy is a living damn saint.

What the hell are you talking about? How is that trolling at all? If the Flyers could improve their team by trading or firing someone I would want them to do it regardless of what day it was.

I'm talking about Manics.

Great thing to wake up too. Definitelty a step in the right direction. Benching Louis after he scored his first goal must have been the final straw :P

His system was sitting back wasn't working anymore and his handling of the lines this year has been terrible (granted he has had a lot of injuries to deal with). Cunneyworth will be interim coach, who I believe doesn't speak french. I wonder who they will get to replace Martin?

:lol I'm sure JM will be fine. I have been let go at this time of year and it definitely sucks, but I wasn't making the kind of money JM makes. He has more than enough money. He will actually be able to spend more time with his family over Christmas.

JM gets two million dollars as a bonus because he got fired.

I'd say that's a pretty fucking great Christmas present.

P.S. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Christmas is early for every Habs fan!
