You have to wonder what Nintendo's expectations were when they started the localisation. Can anybody think of a Nintendo-published game with this much voice-acting? Is it conceivable that it might be the most expensive localisation they have undertaken?

Baten Kaitos Origins, but that was outsourced to 8-4.

People talk about there being high distribution costs in a country like the US, but what are the costs besides shipping it to all retailers? Would a single shipment to a single retailer's headquarters really be that expensive?

I couldn't say, but since this is a GameStop exclsuive, they'll probalby be using the preorder data to determine how many copies to ship to each store.. sooooo the chances of GameStop stores having dozens of unsold copies is extremely low. In fact, typing this out, it almost brings to light why they picked GameStop to carry it exclusively.

Fuck, I'm so used to ordering from Amazon with free shipping that the extra $5 shipping charge caught me off guard. I think I'll probably wait and see if they ever sell the US version elsewhere before picking it up now.
Only Gamestop is your other alternative.

Well, NOE would've been responsible for that and the game exceeded it's (modest) expectations there. For NOA this is pure bank.

Ordering from Canada:

$49.99 for the game
$7.00 for shipping and handling
$7.41 for HST tax
$64.40 for the grand total.

The fuck - I'll just wait to pre-order from ebgames ... I just called my local store they don't have it on their list yet. I hate EB/GameStop.

do they charge your card now or at shipping?

I'd like to know this as well.

Gah. I really hope EBGames up here gets it.
Do we know what they ship with? USPS? Or some private courier who would hit us with more stupid fees. And then maybe customs because Canada.

I'm wondering if it will ever be available in Canada other than just ordering from Nintendo. Like, does "yes Canada will get it" simply mean "lol preorder off Nintendo.com and pay all our fees haha".

Cause I paid less than $67 to get it from Europe haha.

I think it's kind of funny to talk about "high distribution costs" when there's pretty much no money NoA spent on Xenoblade. The localization was made by NoE, and you can believe one thing: translating a game into different languages and distributing it in several countries is by far more expensive than shipping an already translated game through the US.

I also can't understand why some people are angry over NoA's lack of Xenoblade marketing. It's being treated as a very niche release, so obviously NoA's expectations are very low. I get the impression that the release is more of a prestige release in order to please the fans than anything else. The costs of releasing Xenoblade is so small that they pretty much can't do a significant loss on it whatever they are doing.

I'm pretty confident ebgames will get it in Canada.

If not ... I'll just suck it up and order it from Nintendo. I want the game too damn much.

damn I ordered when is this expected anyway?
They better not charge my card today

total $58.48 :( reminds me of Square RPG days - I hate online tax

I don't think they charge you right away. I caved and just ordered it because I hate EB and I haven't been charged yet. I checked online.

$5 is the cheapest and it goes up from there. It really is a shame Amazon isn't selling this game.

Thanks. I'm going to assume there is still going to be tax too. Hmm. I have my preorder in at GameStop but have to decide if getting the game later really matters at this point.

Edit: Nah I'll just keep my GameStop order. In the end it's going to be cheaper for me since I'll be in the area around that time anyway.

I saw Hotel Dusk used for $6.99 at GameStop, so I picked it up. It didn't work unfortunately (2/2 used DS games I've bought that haven't worked). Went back and used the refund for my Xenoblade preorder ;]. Surprised I didn't do it earlier. The hype for this game aaaallllll year has been so astronomical!

no I don't think I've been charged but I would like to know when because I don't always have money on this card.

They Sent me a CLUB NINTENDO email as this is a club nintendo reward.

subject line "Confirmation for Club Nintendo Reward Order #--------"

I'm in the same boat with the card lol.

They also sent me that email and said I can use a code to redeem something on the eShop lol.

I had the game preordered on amazon since march or something. But now it was automatically canceled. I won't be buying it from gamestop though. I don't like GS and I don't want to pay an extra 10+ bucks for shipping and tax.

Don't know what the price situation is through Nintendo though. So I'll just wait to get it used on ebay.

I was looking for something about eShop in my email I see nothing.

So no dates? I guess I'll have to keep $60 in my account
I would rather have a solid date

Probably not until it's about to ship - Sometime next year in April lol.

if you're still looking for Hotel Dusk, send me a PM. I'll give you my copy, if I still have it. I'll have to check when I am near my DS games. No promises that I still have it, but if I do, it's yours.

I paid $42 after fees and all that to get it from half way around the world. I really wish they had picked Amazon or something instead of GS.

Oh well, worth it.

My game of the year. A wonderfull game with great characters, environments, music and gameplay.

I'm happy you guys will be able to finally play this.

"A maximum quantity of 1 part # 76440 allowed per household."

...Nintendo won't let me order two copies. I wanted to grab myself one and one for my sister (her birthday is right after Xenoblade comes out, so this would be perfect).

WTF Nintendo? I WANT TO BUY MORE OF YOUR GAME, PLEASE.

They don't want people to buy a bunch of the limited run just to flip on ebay.

Thinking about this a little made me wonder if it would be worth trying an experiment:

Have people pre-order a niche game that is basically ready for ship to see total sale number, and only print enough titles to fill those orders + some for the street.

I'm wondering if this would generate enough money to make it worth the cost of printing and shipping those copies. I could see this being a potentially effective way to market and sell titles they don't expect to move that many copies. Instead of filling individual orders, use the internet to pre-order and build up a bulk order for disc printing and ship the orders out to the individual customers.

Can't you do a separate pre-order and have it shipped to a relative's house or something?

That will definitely happen, though. Those people will just buy it multiple copies at various Gamestops. I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon or Ebay sellers charge $70-$80 for the game a day or two after its been released.
