I just thought I'd throw out a suggestion; wouldn't it make sense to have a separate list for non-American TV shows? At least that way they'd get a chance.

I don't mean separate ballots - just separate tallies....

I'm glad you also noticed that BE > BB this year.

Damn I forgot Treme aired this year. I'm gonna have to edit my list again...tomorrow I guess.

3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
4. Justified
5. Louie
6. Sons of Anarchy
7. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

8. Curb Your Enthusiasm
9. Eastbound and Down
10. Portlandia

The ones that just miss the cut for me are Louie, Bored to Death, Modern Family, Sons of Anarchy, Community... and apparently I need to check out The Good Wife, whatever that is.

Wait, only seasons that BEGAN in 2011 are eligible? That rules out a third of the episodes that aired on TV this year, how does that make sense?

Best TV show of the year. Every year, the major publications (Time, LA Times) do it this way. Otherwise, you have the second half of Modern Family season 2 competing with the first half of season 3, etc.

Try not to take it too seriously. This is just for fun. :)

1. Game of Thrones*
2. Breaking Bad
3. Homeland**
4. Boardwalk Empire***
5. The Good Wife
6. Curb Your Enthiusiasm
7. Parks and Recreation
8. Raising Hope
9. New Girl****
10. Family Guy*****

*:Game of Thrones gets a bump to the top spot for strategic reasons, but Breaking Bad is this year's true winner.
**:Haven't seen the finale yet. Might edit accordingly after tonight.
***: Gets an overall boost for being such an improvement over season 1.
****: I was as surprised as anyone.
*****: Come at me bro.

Community, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fringe, and Sons of Anarchy are all honorable mentions, but each of them saw declines this year that require penalization in their ranking. Though Fringe at least has new episodes in the spring to recover.

Edit: Saw the Homeland finale. Not only does it maintain its ranking, but I wish I could move it higher. Still, the top two cannot be moved.

I wasn't trying to come off as hostile, and I really do appreciate you putting this together. Thanks for it.

That said, I think that the restrictions should just be "TV shows that aired the best episodes in 2011," (regardless of the division between seasons) rather than "best TV seasons that started in 2011." This way, notable shows (FNL, MoaCA, all of Doctor Who besides the upcoming Christmas special) aren't excluded. Plus, I think that everybody who's voting for returning network series is voting based on all of the year's episodes, not just on the fall's.

Just a suggestion. I think it'd be more fair and clear this way.

Oh, and what are the rules for British series that aired in the UK and US in different years? Downton Abbey series 1 aired in the UK in 2010 but in the US in 2011, for instance.

1. The Good Wife - The best drama on TV. If you're not watching it (chances are you aren't since it rates terribly) you're doing yourself a huge disservice.
2. Desperate Housewives - Guilty pleasure of mine. It's the final season and the writing is as amazing as it was in the first season after a few missteps in previous seasons.
3. 90210 - Best teen drama on TV hands-down.

God, I miss Mad Men so much.

4. Fringe

Breaking Bad is probably a better show but I have to go with my heart. I've seen many others but those are the only 4 I consider worthy of a mention, the rest would just be padding out the list. Going to marathon Homeland over christmas as I've noticed it getting a lot of traction so I may edit that in later if I like it. Also MIGHT have time to get into Broadwalk Empire.
