Best TV show of the year. Every year, the major publications (Time, LA Times) do it this way. Otherwise, you have the second half of Modern Family season 2 competing with the first half of season 3, etc.

Try not to take it too seriously. This is just for fun. :)

Didn't Time have FNL on their list? I'd like to have it on mine... haha.

Based on seasons that premiered this year...

1. Enlightened
2. Breaking Bad
3. Parks and Recreation
4. Game of Thrones
5. American Horror Story
6. Shameless
7. Fringe
8. Big Love
9. True Blood
10. Dexter

Honorable mention: Archer, Community, Happy Endings, Louie, Modern Family, New Girl, The League (these usually brighten my day, but I generally prefer drama/dramedy)

Enlightened's writing and characters made it a pleasant surprise. The first episode made an okay first impression, but it was much better after that. American Horror Story, True Blood and Dexter have problems but I always have a good time watching them and seeing the crazy stuff that happens. The characters are generally entertaining, though sometimes for the wrong reasons. If this were 2010, Fringe would be higher. Parks & Recreation's 4th season is good and sometimes great, but so far I think the 3rd's quality was more consistent (fortunately, it also premiered this year). It's still my favorite sitcom. Big Love's final season was really disappointing, but had its moments. Looking forward to more Archer next month. I think Justified would be up there, but I haven't seen it yet.

Burn Notice
White Collar
Psych
The Walking Dead
Breaking Bad
American Horror Story

...Actually, that's all I watch on TV anymore. :o

5. Fringe
6. American Horror Story
7. Curb Your Enthusiasm
8. Louie

1) breaking bad
2) sons of anarchy
3) american horror story
4) walking dead
5)entourage
6)the office

10) dexter (sorry, finding out their is 2 more seasons of the show midway through makes it not suspenseful at all)

1) Happy Endings
2) Game of Thrones
3) Revenge
4) Louie
5) It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
6) Parks and Recreation
7) Archer
8) Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

I think the fact that it took until season 4 for me to like Breaking Bad was what made me take it off the list.

Shit, just realized I left out Storage Wars. Well, that gets an Honorable Mention as does Beavis and Butt-head. I haven't seen Season 4 of Sons yet either.

1. Game of Thrones
2. Homeland
3. Boardwalk Empire
4. Justified
5. Walking Dead
6. Sons of Anarchy
7. Fringe

I will check out Enlightened.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with TV this year. I can't even name 10 shows. And the ones I do watch really don't deserve special recognition.

1) Breaking Bad
2) Homeland
3) Spartacus: Gods of the Arena
4) Game of Thrones
5) Boardwalk Empire
6) Archer
7) Justified
8) Sons of Anarchy
9) The Borgias
10) Curb Your Enthusiasm

The top 2 are my best shows of the year, w/ the edge going to Breaking Bad. This is the God-tier. The next 4 are also A-level shows for me. Spartacus satisfies your basic impulses unlike anything else yet it also manages to weave an intricate and satisfying plot. I consider the rest B-tier shows, lacking in certain areas but still quite good.

Honorable Mentions: Treme, Shameless, Modern Family, Fringe (back-half of last season only; this season has only been decent). I also consider these to be B-tier shows, but just missing the cut of the top 10.

The rest (that I also watch): Survivor, Revenge, True Blood, Weeds, Californication, The Walking Dead, Raising Hope, Bones, House, Supernatural, South Park and Dexter.
Survivor is still entertaining after all this time on, but I started to treat a lot of the past couple of seasons as background noise. The next four shows are fun guilty pleasures if you turn off your brain, but not worthy of mention on any 'best of' list for me. The rest, except for Dexter, are decent/OK and typically treated as background noise. Dexter, on the other hand was pretty retched.

1. Parks and Recreation - Funniest show since Friends
2. NCIS
3. The Universe
4. Rizzoli & Isles - Caitlin Todds spin off of NCIS

1. Breaking Bad (AMC)
2. House (FOX)
3. American Dad (FOX)

1. Game of Thrones
2. Homeland
3. Breaking Bad
4. Modern Family
5. Community
6. Spartacus Gods of the Arena
7. Luther
8. Boardwalk Empire

Game of thrones IMO is the best show this season, partly because of it's strong first season, and because it got me to start reading the next few books, and I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT to see how they pull off the upcoming seasons. Lately I've gotten so tired of writers trying to milk out a couple more seasons, story arcs that don't wrap up, and characters that overstay their welcome.

Well it shouldn't have that problem :/

1. Breaking Bad

I haven't watched any other shows, cus just earlier in the year I started catching up on all the great TV shows of the past.
I have seen Six Feet Under, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, in the middle of Terriers, and beginning of 4th season of Curb your Enthusiasm.

Will be finishing those last two, then on to The Wire, Boardwalk Empire and Deadwood. Can't wait!

10. The Good Wife

I really enjoyed Game of Thrones, but it aint on this list, because it doesn't really need extra votes. And if it were eligible Friday Night Lights would obviously be number 1.

Honourable Mentions:
Revenge, Game of Thrones, Shameless US, Nikita, Offspring, Awkward., Futurama, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. And I guess maybe Doctor Who, but it was a pretty underwhelming season.

EDIT 2: Homeland! And some honourable mentions just because.

1. Mawaru Penguin Drum
2. American Horror Story
3. America's Next Top Model: All Stars

Oh damn. I forgot to add this to my list.

Who are you and what have you done with icarus.

When someone makes a thread like this, how do they compile the point totals? Is there some kind of software you can use to scan a thread and add up every mention of a show with some kind of value based on the number in front of it?

Its a list thread. Nobody reads the posts in it.

  1. Game of Thrones
  2. The Shadow Line
  3. Breaking Bad
  4. Luther
  5. Archer
  6. The Walking Dead
  7. South Park
  8. The Daily Show
  9. The Colbert Report
  10. Simpsons (surprisingly good so far this season)

I'm surprised I'm the first one to mention The Shadow Line. It really was a great miniseries.

1) Breaking Bad

Honestly that's all I watched besides Mad Men, which did not even have a season this year. :p
Oh wait, we can add any show... hmm. I have no idea how to rank them but I also watched: South Park, American Dad, The Colbert Report, and Conan.

boardwalk empire is awesome and the walking dead is trash. i don't understand why people like the latter.
