On a Dutch website I saw there's now some kind of customization kit available, which can make the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone light up when the screen is turned on. I think it looks very awesome, and makes me wonder why Apple didn't choose to make this a standard in the first place. Looks very cool IMO. Ofcourse it drains the battery I'm sure, but like Macbooks, it just looks nice.

By the way, they will sell this back cover again, when their Facebook page reaches 8000 fans.

So, this draining battery problem is now at a completely unacceptable level for me. It's been less than two hours since I took it off the charger and the battery is at 60% despite only using the phone for about 30 minutes.

I have location services off, wifi off, mail is on fetch mode not push. I think I'm just going to take it to the Apple store because frankly this is bullshit.

Turn that battery percentage indicator off. Just use that little battery in the status bar as your indicator instead of the percentage indicator. Surprisingly the percentage indicator that uses battery. And stop checking how much battery your using during the phone use. Those frequent checks use up battery also. Just use the as it's intended. Turn Bluetooth off in your not using it, turn location services off, pull up the multitasking bar by double clicking the home button and exit out all the apps your not using. Especially ones that run in the background that update i.e. GPS apps.

I think AT&T has switched on HSPA+ here in Orange County CA. Getting speeds of 6Mbps down and 3.2Mbps up. In theory what are real world speeds of HSPA+ 14.4?

Am I crazy for wanting to buy a $199 case?

It will protect your phone for one drop, after that it will crack and wont hold the phone properly anymore. Im talking from experience.

Basically its good to look at and protect from light scratches and bumps, but the wood will crack easy from harder knocks.

Turned off vibrate so texts wouldn't keep me from falling asleep, didn't figure it would turn off vibrate on my alarm.

Smh.

yea im on call once a month for my organization, i need my phone to be silent for emails and texts at night but ring and vibrate for phone calls to wake my ass up. How do you do this? Was super easy on blackberry, just hit bedside mode.

Is there a definitive "Best Case" or is it all down to personal preference. If so, can anyone recommend me some cases, all the ones I found on Google were ugly.

I think it ultimately comes down to preference, as I know a lot of people like hard cases, but I personally hate them: in my experience, they tend to scratch the phone over time. I have an Amazon Basics silicone case on its way because I think it'll mitigate this problem (and it's easily removable).

What's the difference between a hard and a soft case?

Other then the obvious, one is soft and the other is hard, lol.

The differentiating factor for me is basically as obvious as you're saying. Hard cases generally come in two halves that you snap together, and the softer ones usually are one piece that you can slip your phone into. I don't doubt that the former option gives you better protection overall, but I'd rather chance it with silicone or whatever.

Gotcha, I think I'll probably go for the soft case then, I was super accident prone with my 3G, and I don't think that I could live with another semi-functional phone until my contract ended. Even though I love the form factor for my 4S

so i just read a suggestion which says you should disable/restrict the youtube app and instead use m.youtube instead because its superior. any opinions on this?

I like it. Pretty simple, very slim, nice feel and doesn't add much bulk to the phone. Probably won't do much protection if you dropped it very far though.
I gave it some thought and honestly, if it's a case that isn't gonna protect the glass from shattering if it's dropped don't see the sense in adding it. Phone looks so good naked.

I've kinda been alternating using the case and not using it. Thing is primarily to protect the back from getting scratched the hell up in my pocket or when I'm just setting it down and picking it up in various places. Then it's like the only cases that will actually do shit for protection from dropping it add a ton of bulk. It's kind of an annoying dilemma with the phone.

Once one scratch and one drop happens to me. My OCD over a new phone is over. I was so OCD over the iPhone when I first got mine. Baby the shit out of it. Then all of a sudden I checked the back of it one day and saw 3 micro scratches. I couldn't believe it. I was pissed but got over it. And when I dropped my phone I the ground. Not the pavement but tile floor. That's when I gave up and realized that I will get another phone in another year.

I cracked my iPhone 4 screen once when it was naked. I had it out of its case. God I can't stand the cases. Apple replaced it free of charge under warranty. The replacement I dropped 2 times. No damage really and my back of the phone has some microscratches.

The phone is sexy as fuck without a case on it. I'm so use to it without the case. I practically laugh at others with cases on them. But the thought that I might drop it on pavement again has me holding it every step of the way.

I'm in the same position, which is why I'm getting a cheap silicone case for when I leave the house (and possibly keep it in a sock when I have it in my backpack), but I'll it off when I'm at home.

It is superior but I had to turn it back on as no embedded videos would work.

Man, how do you scratch Gorilla glass unless you're doing some extreme shit to it? I take good care of my iPhone and haven't dropped it yet but I know girls who just throw their naked iPhones into their purses filled with shit and their iPhones are still completely scratch free.

Sand, sand scratches all. Never bring your iPhone to the beach.

I've gotta say, the camera defaulting to adding the "orientation" EXIF instead of just taking the picture rotated has to be the stupidest idea. Is there any way to turn that crappy setting off?

It's not the front screen. The front screen is scratch free. It's perfectly fine. The back has scratches and the back isn't Gorilla glass at all. So it's prone to getting little microscratches regardless. Even a slight piece of dirt will get caught on the back of the phone and as soon as you wipe it. Microscratch!

As far as dings I have one ding. That's it. The phone still looks new but it's used. I take care of my stuff. But a phone is a phone. I get a new one every other year or if I need one I will buy one by selling the old one to compensate for te cost of the new one.

What are the chances I'd be able to walk into an ATT store this week and walk out with a 4S of any color? I wanna get one for my sister for Christmas, but don't wanna wait for the phone to ship, and there isn't an Apple Store in my city.

I had no idea the back wasn't Gorilla Glass. I never pay attention to the back side of the iPhone so if I ever end up getting scratches there I wouldn't care. I probably wouldnt be able to see them anyway since my iPhone is white.

Got it, thanks!

no problem :) tweetbot is the best twitter client imo - totally worth the $2.99 i paid for it when it first came out. i see that its 99 cents on the app store so now its a no brainer to purchase it!

people who are on the fence, "hate" paying for apps, and/or complain about using a pay-for twitter client instead of the official one, tweetbot will change your mind. it has a great ui, plenty of customization (including notifications), and its continually supported and developed by tapbots, the guys who made convertbot, calcbot, and weightbot.

Yeah, I don't think you can use m.youtube.com for links - but for general viewing (subscriptions etc.) the mobile site is so much better. Also includes an HQ option.

I also can't login via the app.

You can log in with the app. The mobile site gives me a lower quality video than the built in app, even when it's in HQ mode. I'm on a 4 over wi-fi.

I've just realised the reason my login failed is because I have 2-step auth enabled on my Google account. Added a password for the YT app and I'm now in.

I'll check on the quality later, thanks.

EDIT: I can't find an HQ button at all in my app - are you talking iPad? There's also no watch later playlist, which sucks.

This Moshi case is the closest thing I've found to a "nearly naked" iPhone case that fits very well and basically just protects the back. I got it as a gift and wasn't sure about it at first (it's ridiculously light) but I really like it now. Not thrilled with the Apple logo cut-out, but it does serve a purpose in that it is easy to bring your phone out of your pocket facing the right way, as your index finger tends to go right there.

There's no HQ button. It just defaults to the HQ/HD stream when on wifi. I'm talking about the 4, but the iPad is the same. iOS 5.

This drove me nuts the other night, until I read how to login with 2-step. Makes things secure, but so much more annoying.

Ah. Most of the time I watch YT on the phone when I'm on 3G, which will explain why I've never seen that option.

When Im using the browser the display does the screen flip thing, but it's really hard to flip it back to vertical. Any tricks Im missing? Also, is there an online manual or something somewhere?

A month back I jumped on an iPhone for the first time. Loving the 4S.

I made myself an @me.com e-mail account - and I liked it - so it's my default e-mail account now. After changing my contact information everywhere else, I wanted to do the same for my apple-id. That is not possible it turns out. I'm stuck with my old e-mail as the apple-id and primary e-mail adresse. The @me.com is in the system as alternative e-mail.

Is it like a seperate account of some sort and that's why you can't rename your apple-id into same? Weird because the @me.com e-mail still works as a sort of alias and you can log into your apple-id with it.

Really weird system.

You can always go on best buy's site and check for availability in your area. That's how I bought my 4S back in November; checked online, went to store, enjoyed new phone in a little over an hour.

Yes, this is frustrating. I don't think there's a way around it unfortunately (other than just starting over with the new Apple ID).

Anyone having issues with gmail? My iPhone suddenly cannot connect to the gmail server, anyone else?
Mine's fine this morning, both on the native and Gmail apps.
