so we know downloads are restricted to one psn account, but what about retail games?

- can play on any psn account
- if you try and play on a different psn account than the one you started playing on, you can play but won't earn any trophies
- software updates seem ok. I can be signed in to a US psn account and minna no golf will update fine. So seems no dependency on psn store here.
- online pass. Mingol has a code for activating online play. This needs to be redeemed in the psn store, so won't currently work if you are logged into a non-JPN account. Will test later whether you can redeem the code in the jpn store then switch to a different account. But as downloads are tied to a psn account this might not work. Don't know how widespread online passes will be, but Sony are pushing them, and this is the first Sony game with online play so I think we'll see it a lot
- DLC. Not sure yet - we'll see when ridge comes out with dlc. But I'm assuming that you need to be in the local account to access dlc. Question is whether you can then switch back and still access it?

Please forgive me if I ask something that's already discussed

Does PSV trophies have a separate index from the PS3 trophies or do they accumulate? I mean, when you log on PS3 and go to your trophy collection do you see Vita trophies? And PSV trophies contribute to rising your level?

Could someone with a Japanese account and ps3 check this? They don't show up on a US ps3 but maybe that's because it isn't turned on yet

Mac stuff is puzzling. I mean you can't mount the Vita as if it's an USB drive? I don't get it...

PS3 trophies show up on the Vita under a separate tab called PlayStation Network I believe. I don't think Vita trophies show up on PS3 for some reason. The RedSunGamer guys had a section about that stuff.

Vita get!

The screen is drop-dead gorgeous. Cannot believe how vibrant and sharp UMvC3 looks on this thing. No ghosting either!

I got mine today guys if anybody wants to add me randellaUk but warning got a trophy level of 31 so takes it's time to sync got ultimate marvel vs capcom 3,blazblue,power smash 4,uncharted,ridge racer and dynasty warriors and a 16gb card :)

Agree. I have a phone (an iPhone), and Vita will never be able to beat the camera and recording capacities of my phone. And no redesign will do it, because even if they launch another one with better camera in a few years, the phones that we'll have then will be even better.

And I only need a camera or video recorder that it's already in my phone, I don't need to have two good cameras with me.

The context or use cases are missing.

While Vita may not want to compete with cameras and cellphones for general photo taking, it *could* be better than both for acquiring assets for user generated levels, avatars and AR titles.

A simple image/video acquisition and touchup app that can exchange data with any Vita titles, and upload to YouTube/FaceBook/Fora may be useful.

If it's yet another standalone and gimped photo or media app, then they may be a waste of (Sony's) time.

No one will buy a vita because of ANY ONE OF THOSE THINGS, agreed. BUT, people will buy a vita because of A COMBINATION OF THOSE THINGS. I don't consider myself hardcore, wouldn't consider myself casual either. What i look for as an incentive to buy a vita are weather it does basic stuff you can do on a phone eg Browser, camera or video chat. If it can't id rather wait for a price drop because games alone arent incentive enough if more than half the time i will be playing them at home and not on the go. On the go i would probably use the camera or browser much more . I hope you see what i mean.

Standalone apps are unlikely to make Vita more appealing. Sony has to sell the overall experience that may include gaming, entertainment, social media, user generated content all rolled into one.

Instead of a better browser, how about a browsing experience that is optimized for gamers ? (Better integrated with game trailer sites, playstation.com, gaming fora, etc.). It may require server side integration for a seamless UI experience. e.g., Allow a LBP level creator to publicize their creations more effectively all over the net. Or using LBP levels as an Internet greeting card, or tell a FaceBook story, etc.

Instead of a straight forward browser, how about presenting a different view of the Internet by adding gaming elements ? e.g., The Last Guy promo game allows us to play the game on any web page.

Vita trophies ain't even syncing with servers on playstation.com but on vita your able to view each others seems like Sony has them both on different servers at the moment bet they won't be showing until a later update prob around feb on next maintenance as wonder if uk and us ps vita what will the firmware be launched with....

Come on. Yes, I can, actually, since every shitty Android tablet has a glass screen. It's not exactly a luxury. It's made from dirt.

Look at this beauty, for example. The famous Apad iPed has an 8" glass screen for only 149.99 (http://www.wholesaleonepiece.com/an...freescale-a8-1ghz-cpu-ft-805t-iped_p1271.html). How are they able to pull off such a miracle while sony can only afford shitty plastic for their 5" device? Must be magic.

Sorry, I meant just software features like video recording.

The crappy camera - sure, I'm not advocating they spend a tonne on that at the expense of other features. I WOULD like better res there, for AR, but I know it'd probably mean a trade off somewhere else that I'd probably like less. I am happy that the hardware design seems quite purely focused on enhancing the games experience, pure and simple.

Let me add to this, the psvita camera was pretty much designed for one purpose, to provide a good camera for AR/computer vision application. It has features that most camera phones don't have such as the ability to shoot 120fps video.

For AR a resolution of 640x480 or 320x240 is ideal, a higher resolution will incur a greater performance penalty as there are more pixels to process during the recognition step. A 60+ framerate is also ideal. Even though most of the AR stuff runs at 30 or less a high fps means a high shutter speed meaning that there is less motion blur. Motion blur is a huge problem for image processing. Finally the camera is fixed focus and has very low distortion (such as fisheye), not great for taking pictures but again, ideal for image processing.

Anyone having problems redeeming the mingol online ticket? Its not accepting my product code. I have ¥0 in the account and no registered credit card, but that shouldn't matter?

I searched by title for minna no golf, then chose the online play ticket for ¥900. When I checkout it says if I want to add funds/charge and then credit card or product code/ticket. I put the code printed in the box there - that's correct, right?

Was going to see if I could redeem on the JPN store then switch back to a US/UK psn account and still play online. Not hopeful though..

I think when my Vita gets here tuesday, I am just gonna rock a Japanese PSN account until US launch. Sounds like using a US account is just too hamstrung right now.

I used to visit China for work reasons. I don't know whether to trust Apad's build quality and choice of material. A webpage won't be able to convince me.

Am curious about Vita's choice of screen material though.

I already preordered mine in Spain, but I'm constantly tempted to buy a Japanese one through HMV and Tesno. The fear about warranty and customs is the only thing that prevent to click the checkout button.

Probably not seeing the trophies because its a different firmware which we will all need to get to synch and see these.

All of these things have shit hardware compared to the vita. Hell, most have shit hardware compared to the iPad 1. The point is that glass isn't expensive. It seems like a silly omission for a high-end touch screen device that gets so much other stuff right. Ugh.

Then why are you calling Apad a miracle ? >_<
Cheap glass may break easily.

We'll have to see what material Sony used for Vita too. It may or may not be regular plastic.

Choose the account you are likely to use from Feb. Otherwise you might be painting yourself into a corner..

I still haven't decided. If I stick with my US one that means a lifetime of buying psn cards over the internet. Might use this opportunity to start migrating to my UK account..

Who says it's "shitty" plastic? Also, plastic has advantages to glass when it comes to weight and resilience.

Well, when it comes out in the US, I am planning on buying another memory card (just bought a 4GB JP one to use until then) and will probably end up rebuying a few games. Still not sure though, I am gonna have to evaluate my options once I actually get the thing and mess with it some.

i've not added mine yet but my assumption was that you'd just go and input the code in the "redeem" option without going through the online ticket buy route.

The US PlayStation site is like missing half of all PSN games on user profiles, EU one is fine. But yeah, neither show Vita trophies.

Sony seems to be storing the trophy data on different servers with the Vita, but total trophy counts are still updated on the old server (the one PS3 connects to).

First thing I looked for but couldn't see a redeem option..

Edit: found under '...' worked but the mingol servers are down for maintenance

so why does the inbox leaflet tell you to go to the product page for the online pass? And why does the product page not say "hey, if you have the retail version, just use the redeem option'.

so i bought the wife a Vita for xmas - and used the points to buy the Jackson Experience (there's nothing much else left to buy lol)

So....

So far it seems like an okay gesture based rhythm game, that uses dual input (which has some really gameplay posibilities later on!)

Only Rookie mode available so so far it's incredibly straight forward - but the gesture recognition is good and it's largely inoffensive. I'm "Jackson Indifferent" - i'm not offended by his later work, though not thrilled by it, but do like the earlier stuff and the tracks are a good mix.

I can seemingly pick whatever tracks i want avoiding that "you have to play through tracks you hate" thing. However, the tracks are also part of what i think could be a fairly crippling issue: where as the Ouendan series cuts down tracks and tightens them, the Jackson game seemingly plays entire tracks - this makes the game a lot more long winded than it needs to be. As an example Billy Jean is the track used for the "tutorial"... all nigh on 5 minutes of it. So what should really be a short intro to the basics quickly becomes overly bloated. Likewise, first track i tried "Don't stop to you get enough" was full lenght.

So for the Rookie tracks this makes things somewhat boring due to the relatively low challenge, but on the harder mode this may make this an exercise in endurance. We shall see i guess - but looking forward to trying the harder difficulty to see if it can expand on what is a fairly sturdy base.

Won't win any awards, but at least servicable.

So as way of a round up based on FLASH GAME PLAY, here's my "initial feelings" game rankings :

Power Smash 4 : A
Minna No Golf : A
BlazBlue : B+
Army Corps of Hell : B+
Katamari : B
UMvC : B
Uncharted : B
Disgaea 3 : B
Musou : B
Shinobido 2 : C+
Lord of Apocolypse : C+
Ridge Racer : C
Monster Radar : C
Mahjong Fight Club : C
Little Deviants : C
Jackson Experience : C
F1 2011 : C-
Dark Quest : C-

I've heard that Dark Quest gets exponentially better with multiplayer, so that will be reassessed once the wife is up and running. In the grand scheme i'm pretty happy with the line up. F1 was by far the biggest disappointment snatching that victory away from Ridge (though my expectations had been well managed on that one) - the biggest surprise is Army Corps of Hell which i've now done a couple of levels of and it's slowly building on a solid base. I was expecting it to be simply strategy but now it's got pretty action-y and i'm sure i play the game with a massive grin as the music and general feel of the game is full on M E T A L !

Mingol is extremely solid, but a few courses reused and the character customisation (so far) seems reigned in (i've seem two full costumes so far and i've been through 4 sets of courses). Virtua Tennis is stellar, but i'm a massive VT fanboy - i'm also basing the ranking just off how the few games of Arcade felt - if the World Tour is as padded out and awesome as ever then this is going to be the S rank game of the group and -easily- the stand out title.

Why only a C+ for LoA? The beginning may be slow, but once the game picks up it's a pretty good action rpg.

Some semi good news. Redeemed the online pass using a JPN psn account, then ran mingol. Then switched to a us psn account and I still seem to be able to access online.

So maybe online passes don't get locked like full games or demos. Won't be able to fully check yet as the servers are down for maintenance, will report back later

This will most likely be fixed in time or US and EU launch.

If you look on your actual profile (id thing) The trophy numbers listed include the vita ones and the ps3 ones. so theres that.

I can't wait for the PS4 now, knowing it'll have the features of the vita, and more.

What's bad about Shinobido 2?

Ie if I downloaded a game from the JP PSN store, can you reformat back to US accoun and start playing on that account, earning the trophies?

Yeah, over the last year or so, I've seen at least a few smartphone users with a shattered glass screen.

So because some retards can't take care of their stuff, we all should suffer? Unless this is some magical advanced polymer, these screens are all going to be scratched to hell in a year, and be much less pleasing to the touch forever. The alternative is to marr that lovely unbroken edge to edge surface with a screen protector.

Using plastic for a touch screen that is designed to be engaged with fingers as opposed to stylus is just second class.

I don't see anything wrong with using plastic. The screen is still fantastic, and that should be all that matters.

Looks fantastic; may even have less glare. But this is a touch screen device. No wonder it showed fingerprints so heavily in the redsungamer stream, and they noted that finger motions felt less smooth than an iPhone.

because they are flash impressions as stated - i've not put much beyond 30 minutes into most the games on the list with the -massive- exception of Mingol which i've dropped multiple hours into already.

LoA seems good and so does Shinobido 2 - but the grades reflect my initial gut feeling on each. I'm certain some of these grades will go up -or- down. In reality, Mingols grade as went down because there's quite a few courses reused and i'm still fuming from a particularly annoying few attempts at a 'chibicup' course ;) (it was A+ ;) - it may well go screaming to S grade once i get into the online/async 3G ability)

But yeah, LoA will probably hit full swing after xmas day when the wife has her machine

I'm really enjoying Army Corps Of Hell, I haven't gone back to Uncharted since starting it

i'm glad it's not just me. It's just such a pure fun experience (what little i've played) - definitely the NICE SURPRISE game of the bunch.

You heard it here first. Sony kicked gkryhewy's dog with a plastic shoe.

Can someone please tell me the background to the the thread's title? Links would be appreciated as well.

He didn't read a post right and assumed something that wasn't true and went a bit over the top.

Ah, missed the part about flash impressions. Yeah, in that case, LoA isn't really good, that's true.

Too bad that there isn't a demo of Army Corps and I didn't bother to play it in Roppongi, as I don't want to throw 5 yen down the drain and it might not appeal to me. :(
