You heard it here first. Sony kicked gkryhewy's dog with a plastic shoe.

well if it'd been a glass shoe...

i get gkryhewy's point - the only game i've really played so far with extensive touching has been Jackson Experience. Whilst it felt fine, it doesn't have the nice feel of the iphone or ipad.

In an ideal world it would be glass - it's good to aim higher/demand better no matter how good/bad a product is.

I hope they sort it out so trophies for the PS3 and Vita are unified. Keeping them separate seems pretty stupid.

You don't think the way they do it on the Vita is the way to go? List the game, then the platform?

I think the PS3 for some reason can't access the same information. God knows why.

Hey DCharlie, would Army Corps of Hell somewhat easy enough to bash my way though if I don't know Japanese? When I saw them play it on the RSG stream I was totally digging the music and the gameplay looks fun.

I'm using a U.S. account right now but am thinking about trying my Japanese account. I don't care about losing my save data, but is it definitely confirmed that you can access one store/account, clear it, then go back to another region without a problem?

They are unified. If you look at your profile on PS3 the trophy numbers include the vita trophies.
It's just that currently, the PS3 doesn't display vita trophies in it's trophy menu.

The vita has 2 trophy menus.

System(vita) - has the vita trophies.
All(PSN) - all trophies

so basically the PS3 only has a System trophy menu, for displaying ps3 trophies only. Needs a firmware to patch in a menu for all trophies

I'm over the moon....

Very nice. I'm jelly. I'll admit it.

So which is going to get your attention first, the PS3 or the Vita?

oh...lol...that is just a bag from the store...I WISH!!!!

so far I love this thing....the UI isn't anything great, but that screen....UMvC looks amazing on it...

Like I posted earlier, the game offers a pretty much true console experience, and I was lounging...so I can see the VITA going places

If you look on your actual profile (id thing) The trophy numbers listed include the vita ones and the ps3 ones. so theres that.

I can't wait for the PS4 now, knowing it'll have the features of the vita, and more.

So when you press X on your profile on the PS3 do the trophies appear on your gamer card?

Sigh, I'm torn between UMvC3, Army Corps and Disgaea 3 (but I guess I would rather have a more action-ish experience). Did anyone test the online mp in UMVC? I wonder if I should bother because single player modes bore me pretty fast in fighting games.

so far it seems straight forward enough and there's plenty of prompt icons.

Game becomes a QTE/rhythm game on bosses too :O

but yeah, i'm sure someone could put a guide together but the mechanics at this point are SUPER basic.

I'm still jealous (just a tad bit less so) ;-)

I thought you had emptied the bank account and gotten the PS3 as well.

I preordered the NA 3g bundle. I'm hoping the 4gb card will be enough for a while. Probably not if I decide to go 100% DD only with the Vita.

It sure seems like a long time before Feb 15 gets here.

Having had a little more time to tinker with the system, shop etc, I think I can fully say I'm in love with my Vita. For some context, I own most of the major systems (no 360) and purchased a 3DS at launch. I love my 3DS as well, but it definitely didn't leave me with the initial feeling that the Vita has in the first week I owned it.

It also helps that there are launch games I actually wanted to buy vs games I bought so I could test the system out.

I have some issues with the UI (would love to be able to change it from the bubbles), but the actually OS is speedy and works great.

UMVC3 mp impressions required, I'm off to a store and will have to decide what to buy on my way there. ;d

yeah, as someone who is going to do the majority of gaming on the go i'm happy with the way the 3DS and the Vita fit together.

I can see me switching back and forth between the two units regularly.

Awesome, I am way more interested in it since you started posting about it. Definitely considering it pretty heavily now.

How have your multi-player matches been so far? are people communicative?

I can imagine the Live Area for each game being useful, but not really at launch.

Vita games keep dropping in price before launch in the USA:

http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita

After all the Hot Shots talk that game is day one for me at $29.99. Hope 3rd party games drop to $29.99 as well. Army Corps is on my list.
Some $30 and others $40. Better than I expected. I wonder if the NA PSN store will discount the DD versions further like the JP store?

Does anyone have a link to the download sizes of the currently available launch titles? I'm wondering what size memory card would be practical. The 4gb card comes with my bundle but I'm sure that won't be sufficient.

So because some retards can't take care of their stuff, we all should suffer? Unless this is some magical advanced polymer, these screens are all going to be scratched to hell in a year, and be much less pleasing to the touch forever. The alternative is to marr that lovely unbroken edge to edge surface with a screen protector.

Using plastic for a touch screen that is designed to be engaged with fingers as opposed to stylus is just second class.

Looks fantastic; may even have less glare. But this is a touch screen device. No wonder it showed fingerprints so heavily in the redsungamer stream, and they noted that finger motions felt less smooth than an iPhone.
Eh, I don't see it being that big of a deal from a functional perspective. It's not like you would want to stuff the handheld directly into your pockets and purses amongst keys and coins like people do with phones, especially considering you'd want to protect other elements of the hardware too. The phones I have Gorilla Glass, but I still see smudges... when the screen is turned off; that's similar to what I gathered when I saw the RSG stream about the smudges on the Vita. Still it would be nice if they did do glass, but I don't know anything about the manufacturing process and costs involved to make a judgment on whether Sony "cheaped out" or not.

Have only played one match against another import player (did a same region fight search). There was some lag, but it was pretty impressive. Hard to gauge it based on one fight though.

I think I'm about to clear my U.S. account and switch over to my Japanese one....very doubtful that J-players are going to try worldwide matches. :P

Yes, done it a few times.

Can someone with more Japanese knowledge ask docomo if they'll unlock vita like they do for other phones (small admin fee)?

There are manual apn settings but if I put in a Vodafone sim they get hidden

I'm a fighting game fan, and this delivered...haven't played online yet (having router issues)
but local play is smooth, load times are non-existant and the screen POPS...

I can say this is as close to the console version IMO that I could want...

get it

I can't wait for Blaz Blue

Bah, picked up the new famitsu on my way to the store and I still can't devide between the two games. Army Corps is a 10h long game so I guess I'll go for mvc3.

Yup, but they didn't review all the games (Disgaea is missing for example).
I'm not really fond of the Uc series, plus I didn't like the demo during the Roppongi event.

I can post all the scores when I get home if they're not out yet.

Hot damn that is amazing news. My launch purchase just got $20 cheaper.

Funny how people are outraged at memory card prices when they'll buy that once, but games costing half of what you'd pay on the PS3 is completely glossed over by most.

I hate screen protectors and dont use them for any of my devices. Is the Vita using Gorilla glass or some variant of scratch resistant glass?

Army Corps is fairly barebones, I like to think it's been made this way to meet the launch window and if a sequel appears that it would be more fleshed out.

The only thing it kind of reminds me of is the underground/cave levels from Pikmin 2. You move from small square area to small square arena fighting enemies to get points/collect resources, and every so often a boss will show up. You are ranked Gold/Silver/Bronze at the end on overkill points, goblins lost and time (there may be something higher than gold, I'm not sure). I like the overkill scoring, you get points for killing an enemy with as much force as possible, so where you only need 20 of the sword goblins to perform an execution on a floating eyeball, if you manage to get more than that on his back and perform the execution you'll get a extra points for each one.

I've encountered 3 kind of gobins so far, Sword, Spear and Magic. Sword Goblins seem to be the strongest, Spear can do a dash attack, and Magic have a ranged attack. Circle Triangle and Square switch between using the respective types and X is dodge. You can use each class to attack normally by pressing R and use their special attack by holding L and pressing R. In the case of the sword guys you can throw them much faster but you can't move freely only dodge, Spear guys will all attack at once, and magic guys seem to give you a wider view (I'm not too sure what the advantage is aside from that)

So to get a good overkill point you can use the Sword guys special move to throw a lot on the enemies backs, but you'll be more vulnerable and the other two have similar risk/reward aspects.

You can collect body parts for the dead enemies and rubies(?) which let you buy new armour/weapons/items for you goblins use in the battles. Stages are often labelled by what type of enemy they primarilly have in them, so far i have seen Fire and Lighting. Magician Goblins also seem to have fire/lighting staffs, i haven't figured out if it's a case of fighting Fire with Fire or not (If an enemy is on fire you won't be able to use the spear/sword guys attack without harming your goblins)

There also is multiplayer, i haven't played it. The manual says it's for up to 4 players and you can share 200 goblins, 50 each at the start, but you can give/receive from other players while in battle - i think. It looks to be multiplayer for the main "campaign" too, though again i haven't tried it i just had a brief look at the manual last night)

It's a very simple game, but I have found it very addictive up until now (3 or 4 bosses in) it's very easy to pick up and play and suits the handheld format well in my opinion. I also find it impressive that it manages to have so much going on in the screen without any noticeable slowdown.

I know this is a big ask but is there anybody living in Japan that would be willing to give Japan Post a call for me? I'm awaiting my Vita but its been 3 and a half days since it apparently left Japan and still hasn't arrived in Australia.

AUstralia Post keep telling me to call Japan Post except they don't accept International calls whatsoever. If anybody is willing then please PM me. Its a toll free number!

bought one just now from ncsx, $750 for the vita 4GB card and uncharted. I'm pumped but my wallet is aching. Should be here in a day or two since ncsx is based pretty close.

wow, I couldn't. I mean that's what I'll end up paying in about 2 months since I'm getting one for my brother too. I would have imported if I didn't want 2.

Maybe you shouldn't have spent so much money on something that would have been less than half of that in a few months. . .

Too bad that there isn't a demo of Army Corps and I didn't bother to play it in Roppongi, as I don't want to throw 5 yen down the drain and it might not appeal to me. :(

And I thought I was poor! ;)

Anyways, if you ever get to play it, let us know how it is.

Which version Wifi or 3G/Wifi? Either way, it seems really overpriced--even for an import.
