Turned on near in Central London at work and it said there were 18 people "near"
pretty impressed - though for all I know they could be Sony employees or developers etc

That's really cool, imagine how many you could find when it's released in the west. Finding fellow players for things like ad-hoc play could be much easier this way.

First, thanks for your impressions.

Second, I guess people will bitch and moan about tilting until it's pulled from the game, just like they did with Sixaxis grenades :/

No problem.

Oh, that reminds me. Grenades are thrown by dragging the grenade icon to the screen and sliding the arch to correct spots. Works easily most of the time, but sometimes game gets confused because of walls or ceiling blocking the way. Tapping the icon will throw it straight blindy.

Today I decided to do another video test with a new videocamera based clip with 1200kbps, but it seems that nothing relevant has changed, so I will stop it now and play a game. It has already been 5 hours and the battery icon looks to be 50%. No use waiting as it will likely be around 7+ hours again anyways.
I think wifi cuts itselff automatically off anyways, so it doesn't drain the batteries when I watch videos. Brightness and audio were still 100%. I wonder how others have tested to get 5 hours videotime on Vita?

Edit: Has anyone tried what the backup functionality does with Vita? What does it save? Would it help the people who want to use more than one account in any way?

The game itself is good, but it's next toimpossible to play with random people from Japan online, as it's not really popular here.

When I got the Vita Wed., I only found one person online to play with...another importer.

Last night I played for a bit in 1P with fight request enabled for worldwide matches and got a few people...and that was in the morning, Japan-time. Things will definitely pick up online once the Vita is released elsewhere, but in a few months you'll probably be able to buy it back from Traders for less than you sold it for anyway, lol. SSF4 on 3DS looks like a barren wasteland if you search for games, but when you host matches usually happen pretty quickly.

Wondering how BlazBlue is online in comparison. I won't get it until next Wed.

Well, you can learn them to cooperate to fulfill their goals (platinum the games), or spend a lot of money with 5 different cards and maybe 5 copies of each game (and, of course, DLC and any digital game), because it seems that the game card get attached to the account and you wont' get trophies of that game in other account unless you format the game card.

There's a lot of assumptions going on - I think the dust needs to settle, but from my PoV if it's not a "family friendly" experience then I will have to think again about buying one.

This also raises a question about the recent changes in 'game sharing' down from 5 to 2 devices (PS Vitas in this case). It's contradicting what is being said, if I can register my PSV for said purchases then surely the games should work no matter what the account?

This is all too confusing - as I said, early days but I've gone from gagging to hovering on cancel :(

I recall when PS3 launched, RfoM was (initially) region locked for the online part - eventually they opened the servers up - maybe this is a similar thing?

But you are asking something that don't exist.

There isn't any portable console (or even portable machine that is able to play game) that has that "family friendly" experience.

No PSP, DS, 3DS, Vita, iPhone, iPad has support to play the same game in the same device with different accounts and get archievements tied to each account.

Oh, decided to wait until the end of video battery test #2. Died before 7 hour mark. about 6:50 as I did not notice the time of death. Good anyway.

Gaki no tsukai seemed more interesting than playing today, so I'm enjoying drinks and downtown dx from youtube. Good times.

Melly chlistmas evelyone.

I love japan.

Why they try to use english (engrish?) when a japanese message is perfectly fine, I will never know.

Fetish with using american english, which I will never understand. It is horrible and ruins some nice songs too.

Any way to transfer my downloaded PSP games to my Japanese vita without a ps3? I've got them on my PC...

Should be possible from the Vita when you connect it to a PC. Vita asks where you want to connect and what to download. Can't test right now to make sure.

It's fantastic actually. I've played about 15 ranked matches and have had NO problem finding people to fight. It's also very smooth too.

I'd love for some GAF folks to grab it. I wanna play!

I've got blazblue aintt played much but can get few games in but I'm hopeless umvc3 is more my game lol

Tried this, couldn't seem to find the games even though they're in the right directory. I guess I can wait until I get back home to my PS3 in Jan.

I wrote about that a few pages ago - tried moving the files both from my Media Go folder and from the PSP itself and Vita saw those games as "corrupted". Downloaded them again in the end.

Are you trying to move games bought from Japanese PSN store or using other countries versions? If EU/US/etc, then no, it doesn't work even with a PS3.

God just passing the BlazBlue tutorials is getting kind of challenging with the small buttons. Rapid cancel one was a little brutal (A+B+C to rapid cancel then two special moves for 7-hit combo)

I am getting random friend requests, I'm not sure if it's from Near or from this "Minna to Issho" (everyone together) game that is all the rage..

The 'Everyone Together' game is like a way for antisocial Japanese to actually make friends with each other, by participating in Zynga-like social game action that is easier if you make friends. Most of the people I've seen comment on it seem to like it a lot, but as Westerner it's kind of like "why the hell would I just walk into room of strangers and start friend requesting everyone in sight", I mean, they have it possible to change your avatar or add a small profile blurb, but mostly it seems to be random or based on Twitter data if you hook it up with your Twitter friends.

Buuuu. Sony needs to tweak this functionality. At the moment everything is confusing. What can and what can't be done.
Well, the weirdest thing is that there's a folder for that, there's an option in Vita file management but the games just don't work when they're moved this way.

How Good is the PS Vita's Battery Life?
http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/12/22/ps-vita-battery-tests

It lasted 4 hours and 44 minutes.

Sony quotes the total time it takes for the Vita's power cells to be replenished as 2 hours and 40 minutes. Without using it while it charged, our clocked time was 1 hour, 49 minutes.

That's not even remotely close to each other. Have other Vita owners been getting closer to IGN's time or the Sony estimated time? I wonder why there is such a large discrepancy.

I've not really watched for charge time - i am very happy with usage time, i'm getting around 5h at 80% brightness, headphones, no wifi/3g

which is pretty damned good all things considered

Sorry, I thought the idea of Vita was to blend the home/portable experience - transfarring - trophies alla PS3 - social networking (etc)

At least with DS/PSP (etc) you can simply save in a new save slot.

Just a shame really

what makes you think you can't save in different slots for games? It'd just be under a master account - just like the PSP.

Save slots will be per game - as per the current situation.

I get the complaint that we can't have easy account switching a la the PS3, but the idea that there's been some sort of game changing idea with the way PSV works with saves vs DS/PSP ? i just don't see that at all. At worst we are in exactly the same position if we're talking about save slots.

I guess I'm in a minority who cares about trophies is all...sorry about that.

Well, yes - that model is not supported, but then again the whole aim of a portable machine (as per Iwata's philosophy) is that you are trying to sell one machine to each person, unlike to one house hold with consoles.

In this case, caring about trophies and personal achievement is something that i'd assume Sony would hope drives you to getting your won model. In the mean time you can earn someone else some trophies but you can still have a segregated save as with anyother handheld as long as the individual game supports it.
