Asmus has also taken over Captain America and Bucky, and wrote this surprisingly good Negative Zone Annual special earlier this year. A writer to look out for, I think.

How does crap like this even get printed?

I've just been checking out the sales on COmixology and in addition to having the Dark Knight Returns for 4 bucks (such a steal) they also have Stumptown by Greg Rucka in there at the same price, 4 issues at a dollar each. I just read the first issue and it's great. If you're a digital reader, get on there and have a browse, great stuff from lots of indie publishers on there going cheap this week.

Brahs, when is Wonder Woman going to do Wonder Womanly things?

SERIOUSLY, this shit is boring. where the fuck is Wonder Woman?

im sick of these pressed-ass gods getting all of my girl's screen time

i dont give a shit about Azzarello's self-insert character as Ares

i want to see her tear bad guys a new asshole

you mean to tell me you're going to reboot her book and have her hardly doing shit in it, and that's what it takes to make it popul--- oh...............

After finally reading Leviathan Strikes, I'm ready to read Grant Morrison's entire run again. Scott Snyder is doing a bang up job on Batman right now but GM's run is still sooo good.

Batman Noel was spectacular. I'm kind of glad I waited to get it until it was closer to Christmas, with all of the airings of Christmas Carol on TV. Lee Bermejo is freakin' amazing. He might be my second favorite artist ever.

This week I got Justice League, Batman, and TMNT.

Justice League is starting to lose my interest. I don't even know why, because more stuff is happening now, but there really just hasn't been anything all that captivating.

Batman is still pretty good. Also, ever since the relaunch Batman has had consistently great cover art.

TMNT. Damn. This one was great. I had a huge smile on my face once Splinter gave them the new masks. I know that the masks have all been traditionally red in the comics, but it's so much easier to tell them apart, and it's cool that they're sort of blending the comics with other incarnations. The whole reincarnation thing is a neat way to work in the Yoshi story, and it's really got me hyped for whenever the Shredder is going to appear.

I didn't pick up Ghostbusters #4, because I still haven't gotten a chance to read #3. The shop owner assured me that some re-prints were coming in this week though, so I'll catch up then.

I am not a DC reader at all, but what's with all the writing changes ? Didio wants a major crossover or something ?
This is mostly just a guess, but I would say he's being extremely (overly?) proactive in making creative changes on books that aren't getting positive feedback in the hopes that a new writer or a refocused approach will mean better sales. Because otherwise, it just means that concept was a flawed one from the beginning.

Probably part creative differences with editorial, part attempt to boost sales on low-selling books. The latter is pretty certain to fail, since I can't recall the last time a change of creative team significantly raised sales for any book on its own, without being part of a heavily hyped storyline or event.

Once more - Thank you Manky Family for the free comics!

Hey sis, Malcom and Angel Dragon fought a radioactive Osama Bin Laden in the latest Savage Dragon if you want a monthly book where stuff happens! ;)

That said, I'm enjoying Azarello's writing on Wonder Woman. It's a bit slow, but that's his style. I'm hopeful it will go somewhere.

Plus, if he could still sell comics in a big way, he'd be on a book much higher profile than friggin' Hawk & Dove.

He's discussed this in interviews.

Seems you didn't know, but Liefeld broke into lamestream comics on Hawk & Dove. He's a fan of the characters, which is why he's working on them again.

I know.

It makes no sense in a market where writers are the drummers and completely interchangeable artists march to their beat; but there was a time when fans of books would break into the industry just to work on those books for a good long while.

Then they realized the industry is a sham, they're just a cog in the corporate machine, and at the end of the day they're better off creating their own characters and profiting from them entirely. :3

Can't believe it's nearly 2012 and people are still picking on Rob Liefeld. I'm not a huge fan of the guy's style but there's gotta be someone more worthy of derision.

the fact that its 2011, and hes still pumping out pieces like the batman above speaks volumes for me. i would shit on land more, but when he isnt tracing out of latest muscle magazines, hes actually pretty good.

I do find it ironic that Liefeld Lee and Mcfarlane created their best characters while at Marvel.

Hey, maybe Rob could talk with Jimbo while he's at DC and make a deal to sell Extreme Comics to Warner Bros. and get his lame characters inserted into the larger funnybook tapestry like Jimbo did with Wildstorm. LOL LOL LOL

McFarlane I can't stand anymore, but I'll be damned if Spawn isn't still running. :\

I can't fault any of these guys that still do comic work though. They've got more passion and initiative than I do and their living the fucking dream instead of talking about it on the Interwebz.

I always thought McFarlane had the potential to be a great artist if he learned how to scale back some of his excesses and work on a few weaknesses but now he hasn't actually drawn a comic since 1994 :(.

(I think 1994)

Scalped

Anyway, got a shitload of comics for X-Mas today! Mostly BND-era Spidey collections, but a couple from Slott's run. Also got the first volume of the Claremont/Lee X-men Omnibus. What did you guys get!?

Merry Christmas, Comics-Gaf!

What's the best mainstream book on the shelves right now?

I vote DAREDEVIL.

Amazing Spider-Man and Batman says me. Though, despite me only being 3 issues in on Daredevil, but I must admit that it is great. I mean, it actually made me warm up to Daredevil of all characters. I couldn't stand him before.

I picked up Justice League 3 and 4 just because Wonder Woman and Aquaman were joining the team. Green Lantern is the highlight of the book. He's such a douche. lol

Happy holidays Comics Gaf!

Since Kingdom Come is one of my favorite DC books, the only comic-related thing I wanted was Rough Justice, an Alex Ross sketch book that features a lot of his drawings, covers, etc.

I definitely recommend it if you like his pieces.
