I thought that too since he's called him a hack and had other things to say about him as well. I'm stunned Jexhius has never seen a Shinkai movie before.
well
wouldnt the praise go to his team that is drawing this shit?
I'm pretty sure Shinkai still draws a lot himself, or at least closely supervises the drawings, given how similar his full-length films look to Voices, which he did by himself. It's entirely fair to credit him for dem clouds since I can't think of anyone else in the industry with his exact style.
Hold up!
That sounds like every shounen protagonist ever.
I refuse to call Luffy moe, I refuse.
It's actually a very effective narrative definition. Narratively speaking, that is exactly what a moe character tends to be, but a moe character isn't moe on narrative alone. This narrative is given context via character traits, both visual and personality driven. For example, you won't find Luffy, or any shounen hero worth his salt break down and cry at the first sign of violence, but rather you'd find a young timid romance moeblob break down like a deer in the headlights first thing. Visual and Character moe elements are so varied that it's impossible to give a general definition as to their behavior, but the narrative DOES follow a (very general) trend. And this (again, VERY general) trend (transitional stage in life, unknown potential) is narratively distinct form shounen as well. Think about it, a Shounen figure always achieves his potential ON HIS OWN. You can argue "through the strength of friends" and all that, but all in all, the MC of a shounen does the toughest dirty work to get himself to that creeping peak of power. A moe figure, with little exception, achieves her potential THROUGH OTHERS, or to be most specific, the "Big Brother" character. Where a Brother figure does not exist, such a role is instead placed on the audience where we get into much more complicated communication and literary theories. The best example of this is Clannad, a show where the the Top Moe would not have achieved her potential if it was not handed to her by families and friends. Just think of any show where the Top Moe was given at the least validation and thus was able to achieve her potential ONLY after being given that validation or help and would not have managed at all otherwise. That might be the worst definition of moe I have ever read. I am impressed.
I won't... disagree?Moe is just cuteness being cute.

Actually, I wouldn't hold it against him if he were to skip Place but Voices is a must.
Place Promised is far and away better than Voices. Though I suppose that Voices is a necessity to gain an in-depth look into Shinkai's work. His best are 5cm/s and Place Promised.Places is good.
Shinkai shows always make me feel wistful and relaxed. I love them.

why would anyone skip the best shinkai filmActually, I wouldn't hold it against him if he were to skip Place but Voices is a must.
Sex Hair is always Best Hair.
Hey are you gonna down the guy for having a similar film pacing style? Would Oshii be Oshii without the meticulous pacing with the bursts of high octane action? Shinkai has a style designed for dissonance and tension and it works well. I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.It's all the same film anyway.
Except his latest one which is crap.
You know what show is awesome? ushio and Tora. Check it out.
The Idolm@ster 24-25 - What a great show, truly lived up to the crazy hype I gave it pre-summer season, I can't wait for the inevitable season 2.^_^
[5 Centimetres Per Second]
I couldn't really get to grips with the protagonist, which might be where the problems arise.I understand that he's spent his life pining for this girl, but whenever we see him he seems oddly detached from everyone around him, which may well be the point. But still, he seems to have been interested in people in the past and has had an off-screen relationship, but apart from that I can't even picture him sitting down with friends to watch a movie. He's just busy brooding somewhere.
In the end we see him smile, presumably suggesting that he's moved on from his obsession. I can't really say that I'm convinced about that, but as the movie is 60 minutes long there's not really any time for covering any more ground.
It's getting late here so have a great day tomorrow AniGAF.

No fighting over half-price boxed lunches makes me sad.
Sega Saturn was a piece of shit. My younger cousin had one, and it sucked. Well, whatever.
Please tell me season 3 of Working!! is already in the oven.I hate the end of seasons precisely because of shit like this.
Penguindrum over, Working!! over... My heart is shattering into pieces.
Ben-To 9:
A whole episode about Shiraume. Even the fanservice was boring in this episode.
I did learn that high school diplomacy in Japan is SRS BSNS.
Why do you insist on making me even more miserable?SHAFT will save the day, as per usual.
