PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

I live in the UK and don't have any purchased items on my UK PSN account. Should I sign up for a Japanese PSN account with my Vita seeing as there are apps and demos I can download from there? Is there anything on the UK vita PSN?

jkh13: It's only the Japanese (and Hong Kong?) PS Store that is/are open. When I try to log on with my US-account (from Europe) I get that "this is not available in your region yet".

Sigh wished that game had online, dont think its due to a hardware limitation?
In the end it's just a port. Boosting graphics and adding two half-assed touchscreen features is all they did. But yeah, online mp would be so great...

at least they didn't go overboard and use every single feature in the system
I'm not complaining about the touch features, it's that they're really hard to use in the middle of the fight (and they're kind of useless outside it).

Uh oh, I just checked and I have 20 hours played. Famitsu said that's the time required to clear the story mode but I'm nowhere near the end... Guess it's because I'm farming items for the best equip for each chapter.

Not sure if it's been posted yet (apologies if it has)
Found the following link invaluable when starting everybody's golf 6 for those of us that don't speak Japanese

Though being sooooo Japanese illiterate could do with some of the other menus translating, it's a great game but very heavy on the Japanese, might be one I sell on and wait on the English version... Or just persevere a little

Once my PS vita arrives, shall I buy the games from the Jap or HK store? The HK store costs less but has less games available. Might be a bottleneck for the future?

I decided to go for HK store for now since some games are in English, though I'm switching to my UK account once it launches here.

I whipped together another wall skin, using some PSP2 assets,

Here is the wallpaper for anyone to try - It's much higher quality than the OS level capture above.

Very clever use of the icons' grid. I rike.

Do we have model unit numbers of the vita that came out in Japan and in Hong Kong (or US or EU)? If the HK one is unlocked... Better to identify it when importing.

@modus
How far do they allow you to modify the theme/ui? Can you change the icon shape as well?

As far as I know the HK Vita is regionfree when it comes to 3G, whereas the Japanese version is NOT as it's locked to the service provider called "DoCoMo". In the US I believe the Vitas will be locked to AT&T. Maybe there will be a way to turn a Japanese unit regionfree someday, I don't know.

After holding the power button down for 2 minutes the PS button finally turned orange. I guess I'll just leave it alone for a while and let it charge.

That happened to mine take the game out and hard reset by holding the power button down for 20 secs. Make sure the PS vita is charging from the AC and not the USB. It will turn on when the PS button is fully orange and not blinking.

Getting to the nitty gritty with the theme creation! What I first thought of as a limitation for the system, actually opens up some interesting concepts that the XMB didn't allow for, especially in terms of user icon placement. Once you figure out things like the safe zones, it opens up a ton of possibilities. I spent all morning going over the home space icon placement pixel by pixel, to come up with an exact template. At the end of the day, it creates a bit more work for the end user, but allows for some creative use of the homespace:

Perhaps I'm being stupid, managed to get your pic on the start screen but not the background screen?
Any help appreciated, done a search and not managed to find the answer myself :-(

Touch and hold the the screen and you'll enter the edit mode where you can reorganize the icons, delete them, and set backgrounds (by selecting the bottom right icon).

Does anyone else than me has the black stains on the OLED screen in some instances on black screens?!

I've seen the picture a couple of pages ago, and seen that someone else had this. It worries me, but for now is only visible when playing mostly in a very dark room, if there's some ambiant light, it's very faint.

I'll try The Dark Knight Rises trailer to check the blacks, and wait to receive my games to see if it's really an issue.

Some good theme concepts there. I hope the support for themes is as open for this as it was for Vita/PS3. If I had a Vita, I would be using the one there Modus.

Is there a template out there which has a basic grid for full icon placement? While waiting for my Vita, it might be fun to start trying my hand at making some backgrounds.

Man the performance in Uncharted sort of tanks in later areas :/ The firefight I'm at right now is pretty annoying as it's dipping to around ~20FPS. Feels quite choppy when aiming or moving the camera.

Has anyone tried the UMD Passport program yet?

I downloaed the app onto my PSP and tried a couple games (Darius Burst & Macross Triangle Frontier) and I just get this annoying error message. Can't read it, either, since my Japanese isn't that great. Says something about my account, but not sure. (Using my JPN PSN account).

I think Macross may not be supported, but I think Darius Burst is... going to try some US Region games and see what happens.

Do you think this might be of overheating due to you playing awhile or is it just bad code?
