I'm sure that there's a certain level of compression, but not to point where it would fake aliasing, as evidenced by VT4's screen grabs for example.

But if we learned anything from the first generation Vita games, it's to assume they're aliased until proven otherwise. Pre-release screens were mostly bullshots, and powerful hardware or not, we should have known better.

I wouldn't mind the lack of AA so much if the games actually ran in native res. Those shots of HSG6 and Gravity Rush look fucking awful :(

I was just surprised given the reported lengthy development time on Uncharted: GA.

Yup, I could forgive lack of AA, but sub-native is starting to look like an ugly first-gen trend that needs to stop. Simplify the game's visuals if you have to, but don't touch the resolution. Fixed-pixel displays are far less forgiving than TV scalers.

Which is why Virtua Tennis 4 is the best looking Vita game IMO. Gravity Rush looks like it's running at lower than 3DS res FFS!

Blocking off wireless communications and sub native res rendering seem to be the standard already and that's a real shame. It defeats almost the whole purpose of the Vita in the first place! (what's the point of an always online handheld if it goes offline while playing a game?! And what's the point of having a gorgeous OLED screen with fantastic graphics if the games look like they're being viewed through a cheese grater that's been smothered in vaseline?!)

At least there's the two sticks and the rear touch!

twentytwo22 confirmed that he was still able to get friend notifications and messages even during games that gave the "network communication disabled" warning. The jury is still out on whether it's really caused by a conflict between gyros and wifi/3G, since Mingol cuts it off as soon as you access the AR/gyro features.

iirc, OoT cuts wifi too, and uses gyro controls more than any other game I own, but can you confirm any 3DS games that can access gyros but doesn't go offline? I'm starting to get suspicious.

As for Gravity's resolution, come on man. Even the worst offender so far, Uncharted, is running at 405 lol. Why can't we ever get the sane Muffin in Vita threads?!

so i think i have a chance of getting the psvita in HK. im just worried about the language. just to confirm, the language of the os is english an the asian games support english language. correct?

Sorry being in this thread, I assumed they WERE the actual screen grabs, not PR.
A bunch of demos I tried are native&AAed (Dynasty Warriors, Little Deviants, VT4, and I'm suspecting one of those adventure japanese games that I can't read name of was AAed too) as well as some that look sub-native+AA (Dungeon Hunters), so I thought Gundam might be in on the trend :/

To be fair GravityRush seems to use EdgeDetect filter that runs in lower-res then rest of the game, so the edge-outlines come out particularly bad in screenshots. The "normal" rendering looks higher res (still below native from what I can tell though).
Ultimately the art-style works in its favour - it looks quite good in motion.

That's really good to hear.

I think I'll have a new rule for Vita games: if it's not native res and AA'd I won't buy it. It will follow my "if it doesn't have the original voice track I won't buy this JRPG localization" rule in being completely unreasonable but still easy to pull off since there are far more choices than I have time to play.

That Japanese adventure game was Extreme Escape Adventure: Good People Die, and from the grabs we had in this thread it looks to like it's native + 4xAA. Best looking Vita game IMHO.

You know, I actually agree, but I could take you more seriously if you had said the same thing about every single Wii game ever. And 3D DS and 3DS games of course.

The only English game to date(that I know of) is Uncharted. Gravity Daze will be the second.
OS supports all languages already, no problems there.

Uncharted is still worth the exception (if you like the series), but I get where you're coming from. Anyway native games when done well DO stand out, so I think this will sort itself out over time.
Thanks for the name of that title - yea it's indeed quite nice, wonder what chances are for localization.

Hey! Not all of my Vita posts are insane. I like to balance my sane and insane posts fairly evenly (even if my insane posts are more famous lol!)

That would explain a lot, since that shot would be particularly unkind to their filter in that case.

Good to hear that messages and notifications still work though. I don't suppose that the web browser is usable in these games that block off wireless communications?

Well, there's no waste of money being made on a screen that ends up being useless here though!

I don't see the big deal, you won't be online gaming on 3G anyway (at least not anything that remotely relies on latency). Does it also block wireless/3G when the game is suspended? That might be a (small) nuisance. But if iirc I had no problem using the web browser when suspending OOT3D.

Why's everyone going nuts over VT4? It looks pretty sure, but World tour on PSP (hell, the DC games) played a good game of tennis right from the beginning, is there really anyone who hasn't had their fix? Then again this same thread has multiple gamers suffering from an affliction with Ridge Racer!

Little Deviants is also in english (full game)

Apps don't work at all when a game is turned on.
Wut? The browser or other apps?

We knew the former in its current state can't be launched while a game is suspended, but surely others have been able to run twitter, party, group messaging etc, alongside games.

Huh, just checked and it seems the only thing you can't run is the Browser, although I'm 100% sure I've tried a few other apps before and all wanted me to turn LoA off before continuing.

The browser is weird. If you try to launch the app with a game running in background, it will ask you to leave the game first. But if you're in the twitter app, and let's say try to open a picture from someone's tweet, it will open the browser for you and your game will still be in the background.

some games have 3g exclusive requirements right? now im planning to get the wifi model only, and im wondering, can i still do those 3g stuff if i just use personal hotspot via iphone?

example would be that unit 13 requires 3g specifically for some online thingy.

Maybe that's what the manual means by the browser's functionality while in a game 'depending on the content'... :)

I'm fairly sure I saw a vid or stream where it made it fairly obvious that suspending and re-entering one of those games (Uncharted I think) restored and removed wifi functionality respectively... you could see the notifications pop up again when you went into the game from the OS etc. So I don't think wifi remains off when you suspend. I'm sure someone with the device could correct that though if my memory's wrong.

For games that suspend internet functions, yes, they reconnect (if that is really what is happening) almost instantly as soon as you press the PS (home) button.

Also, the gyro theory for suspending internet functions seems to be correct, but odd given that LoA suspends them and has no gyro features whatsoever (unless I just didn't realize it).

Faf pretty already said it, but you can't judge these games' looks based on screenshots taken directly from the Vita. Gravity Rush looks fantastic in motion. My only complaint about its visuals is that the colors are pretty dull. Might just be the first area of the game, though. The demo is extremely short.

If you're asking if you can trick a game into thinking it's on 3G by tethering the Vita with your phone, the answer is 'no'. Games with 3G-specific functionality will be looking for the 3G chipset in the system; it is hard coded to the software.

If you tether to your phone, you're using WiFI.

So I have a few questions cause I little bit confused about the format and change accounts thing:

I just need to do the factory reset + format memory stick?

What about the option that I've been seeing people talk here about desactivate the account?

And hey guys...did I just brick my Vita?

I plugged it into my PC for the first time and it installed the drivers successfully, but now I can't turn it on. The PS button is flashing purple.

EDIT: After plugging it into an outlet and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, the light turned orange and I was able to start it. What the hell was that?

I'm assuming it works just like the iPhone. You cannot charge/boot your device from a completely dead battery state via the PC. Must be plugged in with the wall charger to kick start the battery.

I am posting this in hopes SOMEONE whose using a screen protector can give me their impressions.

I've been using the official screen protector (came with the accessory pack) since day 1 and I swear the thing is witchcraft. It is very much smudge proof; and clear enough such that the image quality is not compromised. Go try to find one if you can

Guess apocalyptic is true then? Vita sold 72k units last week in Japan. :(

Which Vita game looks like it is smothered in vaseline?

The screen isnt useless because some developers doesnt make the games in native resolution. That would be like the joke you made in the spoiler, that a HDTV is useless because you can use older consoles on it (which doesnt run in HD resolution) =)

I just have to ask, why do you try to look for so much flaws on the Vita? At least that is the impression i get.

what were the numbers up top?

Wasn't these similar to what 3ds had at launch?

Well...I guess it's time to get my tux and some flowers :(

It kinda doesn't make any sense :/

Probably because the lack of WiFi only units?

AFAIK, they shipped more 3G/WiFi than WiFi only units (3G/WiFi is more expensive).

Also, the launch lineup doesn't seem terribly exciting.

71K in 7 days when 3DS did 200K even though it was overpriced, had absolutely no games worth playing and came out in a slower month!

At the risk of pulling a BurntPork:

You were the handheld no one was brave enough to conceive,
The handheld no one thought was possible,
The handheld we all wanted,
But not the handheld we deserved,
It was nice knowing you Vita, RestInPeace.

fa serious.
They need to make the wifi units more available., I understand why most people do not want to purchase 3g though (locked carrier, higher price point)

Doen't seem to be a stock problem.

Those are very poor numbers for a console in his second week.

A price drop could be a suicide, but a bundle with a 16Gb/8Gb memory for western countries seems necessary
