Another episode with added material not seen in the game. And it was really quite well done, if you hadn't played the game, you wouldn't know what to expect. If you had played the game, you were wondering what the fuck is going on. The sequence which at first didn't make any sense ended up being pretty fuck-awesome. Then they had a fuck-awesome fight sequence. Seiji Kishi doesn't have a clue how to direct anything other than action, but at least he does direct the action really well.
I still don't understand how the character designs can be THIS UGLY or the non-fighting animation THIS BAD, but oh well. The show continues to sell extremely well on shiny round discs, could SOMEBODY throw these guys a budget bone?
Next up appears to be more S.Link stuff. This is the part in the game which was most boring, I recall a whole month of nothing but S.Links crap. I hope they get through it quickly.

I agree, but I was thinking more about audience response. In general, after a couple of episodes of Blood C lots of people got tired of the show 'doggedly sticking to a dull formula' and so they stopped watching, assuming the show would carry on repeating that formula and never changing.
I don't know, if it's a good restoration job it might well look better. For example, what I've seen of the Highschool of the Dead BD's they look worse than the Patlabor BD's, and that show was made 'in HD'.

Well, as there's an ongoing storyline I'd finish of Samuari Champloo but I'd definitely make sure to get round to Mushi-Shi as I think it's the best show of the three that you mentioned.
You know, you're perfectly free to come and go as you like. There's no reason that a .gif should control your viewing habits!
Well, considering your thoughts on the first movie I don't imagine that you'll care much for the second one. I guess you can always watch the new pieces of animation on youtube, or something.

The only thing that's really 'anime mainstream' is One Piece and it's ilk. Oh, and K-On!. Everything else is weird stuff for otaku.
Sengoku Basara: The Last Party -
All the best parts about the series - the bombastic, very gay, exceedingly flamboyant clashes between historical-warlords-turned-videogame-characters - tuned up even higher and with better production. Fucking amazing. Now this is a goddamn anime. The second half of the movie is pretty much just nonstop in your face fucking action, and overall it's silly, humorous, and thoroughly badass.
It's fucking Sengoku Basara so the writing has its faults (example: about ten minutes could easily be trimmed out of the first half of the movie, due to it being nothing but rather dull exposition), but who the fuck cares, it's fucking Sengoku Basara.
Honestly I think even people who didn't buy into the manliness of the TV series could watch this and enjoy themselves, although they'd miss out on all the subtle (lol) interplay between the characters, who you are assumed to already know about.

Huh? Have we all watched the same show? It was packed with fanservice, unless your criteria for 'a lot of fanservice' is Agent Aika.
I can think of a few, actually.
- Better pacing
- Much better character animation
- Substantially improved background art
- Overhauled colour pallet
- A more diverse and better integrated soundtrack (although at points it certainly worked well)
- A better grasp of editing to create mood and tone
- Vastly improved cinematography
It's far from 'perfect'. Even pretty good shows could probably improve on some, if not all, of those areas. Steins;Gate is a good show with a very average production.
Just under 7 and a half hours left to a new episode of Natsume! Hopefully the production values are better than what we got with season 3.

Well, Rideback was aired back in '09 and was fairly progressive. Then again, that wasn't a traditional mecha show. Speaking of which, I want more Rideback.

The world was never the same again. Still, the shows environmental message is clear from the start. Some people don't like the fact that it has a clear voice of responsibility, a social conscience if you will, but that's just because they're looking to sit down on the couch and turn off their brains. As soon as you present something as a 'challenge' to their cosy world view they reject it out of hand because it's too much effort to reconsider their position on these vital issues.

I actually want to comment on this a bit more than what I said above.
The mecha genre used to have primarily a male fanbase, during the glory days of Gundam and it's ilk. Over the years, the fanbase has shifted to being primarily female, which is one reason Code Geass was so fabulous. Actually, it was probably the primary reason.
I would imagine the studios would like to appeal more to males, but it's pretty obvious that today's male anime fans aren't interested in the stuff they used to be. My comment that combining moe and mecha hasn't been done all that much outside of Xenoglossia was sort of referring to this. The point of adding a bunch of moe moe girls to a mecha show is probably to recapture more of the male audience. A necessary component of this is fanservice, so there it is. It's not as dumb nor as constant as the fanservice in Guilty Crown, anyways, not that I'm saying a whole lot there.
Kallen was there for the male watchers of Code Geass. I always found it hilarious that everybody in that show piloted their mechas sitting in a normal chair, except Kallen, who mounted and straddled her controls in the most blatantly fanservicey way possible. Hilarious and awesome.

I've actually owned the Broken Saints DVD for some time and they do an impressive job constructing atmosphere, considering the limitations of the medium they chose to work in. Definitely worth a watch, or at least I thought so several years ago.
Your brain has already blocked it from your mind as a defence mechanism, which is the perfectly healthy thing to do.
Perhaps if you were allowed to simply watch Yami and not write about it your brain would also 'forget' the horrors you witnessed.

Unfortunately it wasn't very good either, even if it did have a ballerina in it. I actually think that women in fighting shows have reached a far better point on the spectrum of 'legitimate female character' to 'on screen for fanservice only' spectrum. Then again, it's not like mecha shows are popular enough to have much innovation in that field, they're either trying to sell to older fans of anime or appealing to otaku fetishes. Which, as Unknown correctly points out, includes the huge mecha fanbase who are actually looking for lots of pretty boys to fill out the main cast so that there can be implied homosexual subtext at all times.
Hmm, then again, ∀ Gundam and Patlabor were full of great female characters (which is especially bizarre in the case of Gundam considering how Tomino's women generally act) so I'm actually wrong on that one.

These episodes feel short, been a while since that's happened to me, very enjoyable and poor Rakka her halo was made from an ulterior motive lol.
UC women generally strike me as the lady of the house with naginata in hand; strong, but not necessarily independent, certainly not progressive, and female primarily to tug extra-hard at the heartsrings when they inevitably die.
