So, I'm several pages late on some of this, but it's too important not to state.

Cheez-its and Goldfish are two of the most disgusting junk food items ever created. Only Bugles compare in shitiness.

Go team dark chocolate.

Broccoli is god tier, as are mushrooms and brown rice.

That is all.

Wat. I believe I have found my first e-nemesis.

Bugle fingers!

And then you stack them ten bugles high and you have ridiculously long bugle witch-nails.

Ya, it can be intimidating, but the regulars want to help people and for the most part give a lot of good information, if you can get past the testosterone. Mostly people will rag on you if you ask things that are covered in the OP, although if you ask for clarification of things in the OP, people will generally go over them.

The sitting position in general puts your lower back in a bad position and is better to be avoided, especially since most of us sit most of the time already. Sitting stretches your glutes and keeps your hip flexors tight, weakening both. Probably worse on your knees as well, especially if you are going heavy.

The recommended beginning programs always start with just the bar (45 lbs) so you learn the form and get it ingrained into your muscle memory before you go heavy.

But anyway good squats should help your knee by strengthening the muscles that stabilize the joint. Going partial way (and often on leg presses where your legs hit the hips preventing full range) putting the emphasis on the quads can worsen the joint. The knee can has a lot of muscles pulling on it in different directions and they need to be kept balanced with each other.

Sorry, I go on and on.

Thanks for the advice. I've still not used my free personal training session that I received upon joining my gym. I'll see if he can demonstrate proper form for me and get me on the right track. Does using the barbell ever hurt your neck at all? I'm afraid of putting the amount on weight that I require right on my neck.

I been trying to go to the gym and eat better. But coming home for the holidays has put a halt to that. I usually dont eat junk food though so there's that.

Honestly, I think Gaffers just have awful eating habits. That's why all you guys like Cheez-its and bugles and shit.
I doubt most of us know how to cook.

In any case, I'm not a big fan of Bugles, they taste like they would be good, but then they're just bland.

My metabolism is too crappy to even consider indulging those.

Plus, I already drink so much booze...

I'm trying to live up to my avatar, but I don't think I ever can.

Yeah I guess if your metabolism is bad then I can understand. Mine is great. I just had a slice of cheesecake, drinking a lager right now, and i think i'm gonna carve up that wheel of Habanero cheese in the fridge.

which types?
insomniac late night poster?
or the lazy sleepy replies? :P

Your avatar kind of reminds me of the dude who parties at his house with friends, goes to bed, wakes up and goes out to the kitchen to get a snack, sees friends and goes damn you guys are still here? shrugs and goes back to bed. lol

I doubt most of us know how to cook.
I make 90% of what I eat, including things like baguettes, yogurt and granola.

This boggles my mind. How can you be an adult and not know how to cook? Then again, one of my friend's roommates didn't know how to boil water to make pasta so I shouldn't be surprised.

Well with all thats on the net today, even if you dont know how to cook...you should be able to make some fairly simple dishes.

Also I have no idea how some people dont like spinach or broccoli.

Still with the food

lol it seems like this thread has a cycle. New real gaf members -> randomness -> food.

I used to make ravioli from scratch (pasta and all) on the regular but even with a clamped roller it is still a complete PITA. Speaking of I do make a dope pita bread. :D

Real Talk:

The first time I tried boiling water, I used a glass pot.

Then I put it in the sink.

I got a shard of glass just under my left eye.

I was Party Domo and Party Pig. Dat GAF dance party.

Anyway, TinyGAF isn't that scary. Grow a pair. :D

It's just a cool side of GAF, something different. We turn to more gaming-talk around events, like E3. This E3 I'll be checking in from the show on TinyGAF. Last E3 we had chat events for the conferences, was a fun time.

You never put the bar on your spine. It should always be on muscle. You may have to adjust a bit if you are skinny, but if you squeeze your shoulder blades together you should have enough soft tissue to protect your spine from contact. It changes depending on your shoulder flexibility also and might change in the session as your shoulder warms up.

Mark Rippetoe on low bar squat:

I'd read and watch his videos first, and wouldn't necessarily trust a personal trainer I was unfamiliar with. I've seen many give bad advice and teach improper form.

Maybe that's it. I dunno.

I'm cooking right now. You guys should just fucking learn how to cook.

I don't get that either. How do you guys survive if you can't cook? Do you just order out every day? Eat shitty microwavable food every meal?

The disgusting possibilities scare me.

I don't consider myself especially scary hahaha.

Oh man pita bread is the shit. I love going to restaurants where they put it out before the meal. I eat that shit up like it's crack.

If I didn't know you were a Pratchett fan I'd be worried about you man.

The first time you get it to puff properly in your oven you feel like a wizard.

Smiles you just seem like a chill dude is all. We can chill together yo.

Oh shit, you just reminded me that I still need to watch Welcome to the NHK

Don't watch it. Read it. One of the funniest damn manga I ever read.

Oh don't worry, I can now cook like a champ.

Just the first time I literally couldn't boil water correctly.

I have a hard time imagining what it would be like to get into cooking later in life. I was fascinated by cooking and baking while growing up and it feels like second nature to me, now. That's not to say that I don't ever rely on recipes. I'm always trying to experiment with a cuisine I don't know well.

New thread topic: shattered glass stories

I used to work as a custom framer at The Great Indoors in Colorado. I was framing some large pieces by myself, which isn't really a great idea, especially when it needs to be flawless, and they did, as they were for the store and were to hang in the windows. I nearly had the second sheet of glass down when it shattered all over my arms.

I was way in the back of the store and no one else was around. I ended up wrapping a bunch of paper towels around my arms and walked through three departments dripping blood to find my manager. He drove me himself to the ER to get all stitched up. Good times. Ultimately they were pretty superficial injuries for the most part, didn't hurt very much. Scared the crap outta me though.
