Epic is expected to show an updated version of UE3 at GDC2012. There's also a rumor on twitter that Splinter Cell 6 will land on the next Xbox.

I hope it will play all my 360 games with better framerate and higher resolution.

Gears 3 and GTA V in 1080p at 60fps please. Is it possible ?

I guess Microsoft have done exclusive rights for the Windows/XBOX platform again? I hope it be more like Chaos Theory than Conviction this time around again, which I have a feeling it'll lean more back into that.

Make it more like Chaos Theory. Co-op and Spies Vs Mercs please!

Not happening. Microsoft already invested in extra silicon in the latest 360 to artificially limit its performance to that of previous revisions.

thats to keep all systems running the same so devs didnt use the extra hp and then have games that performed differently on the 'same' system, I agree its not happening, just not the reasoning ;)

Same here. I still dont understand why it shouldnt be possible. The 360 did it with xbox games.

they upscaled the graphics for 360 BC which happens in lots of 360 titles already so if that's what you want well that'll be possible, the games wont actually run at 1080p though. 360 BC also added AA which again I don't see an issue with the new system applying. But running titles at 1080p native just wont happen due to how the games are coded.

Depends on the architectures used...

If they are going with a PPC + AMD Chip it might very well be full back compat... maybe even upscaled to 1080p in some cases...

If they'd use different architectures it becomes a more difficult story.

Anywho, why isn't the use of M$ not an automated kick in the guts. It's meaningless, stupid and 1998.

Actually, hardware BC makes that 100% impossible. The games are hard-coded to run at a certain resolution, and more powerful hardware can't change that.

True, but providing patches to get them running at higher resolutions/framerates wouldn't be very difficult if the architecture's the same. Comparatively, if there's, say, an AMD CPU in there, I very much doubt we'll be seeing any better performance than on the XBox360 (and quite possibly worse).

Edit: Actually, as we can assume that the GPU architecture is going to be fairly similar, we can assume that patches to upgrade to 1080p would be possible in either case. The limiting factor would be the CPU emulation. In fact, if they are using an AMD x86 CPU, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't bother with CPU emulation, and simply include a XCGPU chip in the higher-priced model to handle BC, similar to what Sony did with PS2 BC in the PS3.

The thing is, wouldn't the ocasional close-up of low-res textures remain the same? It's probably the only thing that looks out-of-place in Gears 3, and the only "real" reason to update the game at all.

Tried go to xboxfusion.com r_r you will be automatically redirected on xbox.com
New name 100% XBOX Fusion
Sounds too gamer, too "hardcore". I see MS taking a more family-friendly name for their next machine. Irrespective of whether you like Kinect or not, it's a very good and family-friendly name.

Be interesting to see if they even keep the name Xbox (unless they see "Xbox" as the brand, rather than MS).

They'll definitely keep Xbox, it's a brand, worth who knows how much, and they spend a ton building such things...

They'd be afraid it they just call it "kinect" or something, people wont know what it is. But if it's Xbox anything, people instantly know.

I'd be surprised if ANYTHING xbox will be announced

now now, they'll be stuff about how kinect and xbox are making keeping in touch with people easier and making media more accessible *rolls eyes* I'd imagine there will be a skype demo between wp7/windows 8 tablet/PC and an xbox.

Some demo's sure, but nothing new...

I have been disappointed in the past, getting excited for MS CES...

You didn't mention it would be something "new". It would also be the first public demo of Xbox Live on Windows.

Oh, and don't ever get excited for a Microsoft CES keynote. Not even for this one.

If the next Xbox has an AMD APU it would be sort of a win-win for both MS and AMD. It means it could run native Windows 8/9, and it would significantly help AMD to finally earn some money on CPUs. I don't quite understand why MS went with IBM anyway last time around.

If it's not an AMD APU this six-core CPU just seems to be a doubled Xenon CPU honestly.

Xbox Fusion is an awful name. That's some 1990s "Ultra 64" level shit. Worked then, but not now.

It's their last one, it must be exciting :)

"focusing quite a bit on Windows Phone and the its Xbox / entertainment story"
"momentum from across the company for Windows, Office, Bing, etc."
"[there] won't be significant news, but more of a wrap up of the strong year the company has had in consumer."

That doesn't dismiss anything I said about the keynote.

AMD is calling their APUs "Fusion", and I speculated last year with BBoyDubC's posts that something like Fusion Trinity (based on bulldozer) would go into the Xbox. Then HardForum threw the "well, it will either be bulldozer based or it will feature the same Cell CPU" thing into the mix, from what I recall. "Kinect Fusion" <--- sounds right.

do a search for Microsoft Fusion trademark and you'll get a bunch of articles from last May. I don't think this is anything related to the next Xbox.

ex-Rare dudes released a game called Fusion: Genesis.

On the other hand, I can also confirm the story of the AMD employee who posted on GAF that he was working on a new chip design for an unannounced next-gen console shipping fall 2012. Not to mention that the timing of the new Ubisoft leak comes right after the story Edge ran about Ubisoft and EA getting their target-spec PC boxes replaced last month by actual Xbox NextGen prototypes:

Not as bad as "Kinect".

I still think "360" was the worst. It implies they're (MS) just going around in circles, ending up right back where they started from, or even just spinning their wheels. No forward-thinking there! ;)

I think "Fusion" is just the codename.

Can you confirm that was Microsoft? Because he never said, although he did post it in a Microsoft Next Gen console thread, lol.

It would be great having some sort of announcement at CES, though I don't think it will happen. There's e3 2012 to steal Nintendo's thunder.

CES is also my birthday. I want a surprise, Ms!

Everything is good if we get new consoles in 2012. I want new toys.

I for one ant the next-gen finally to happen, I hate when multiplatform games look miles and miles better on PC. 2 GB RAM would be pretty ridiculous though...
