Rumor: Xbox 3 = 6-core CPU, 2GB of DDR3 Main RAM, 2 AMD GPUs w/ Unknown VRAM, At CES

They usually don't do that, right?
It could still be because of Xbox Live Windows 8 integration and so on.

Something Xbox related is going to be at CES and yeah it could be a number of things

-Xbox Live on Windows 8
-Xbox 360 on Windows 8
-New Xbox confirmed.

I was in on the hype too until MS themselves said not to expect major announcements at ces.

Would confirmation about the new console really be major though? I mean showing it off would be major buy saying that a new system is in the works would not be that far of a stretch.

They can announce the new Xbox at CES 2012, and tell everybody to wait for the detailed unveil at E3 2012. They'll get more people tuned in for their 2012 E3 that way. Use the hype and anticipation for their E3 unveil to marginalize Nintendo's re-unveil.

If they are going to unveil the next Xbox at E3, it's obvious that they need to build up some anticipation and hype prior to E3 so that they can draw the largest audience on the day of, the question remains as to whether CES 2012 is the chosen outlet for the announcement.

My bet is that you will not see a detailed, full blown unveil of the Next Xbox, with specs, trailers, and gameplay, at any event other than E3.

Announcing it now would force Sony to push their own announcement forward, which would be bad for MS and awful for Nintendo, right?

If MS announces it along with some specs of the new AMD CPU/GPU or whatever and gives the green light to developers and publishers to start talking about support for the system it would leave Nintendo in a very troublesome position going forward.

Not unless they think that the unveil of a new Xbox is going to be overshadowed by something else at E3.
Super Wario Bros. as as WiiU launch title and the simultaneous rebirth of the platformer, beat 'em up, and city simulation genres. It'll overshadow everything.

BELIEVE!

Not bad for MS as they'd be dictating things if that were the case again. Nintendo might have an "oh snap!" moment where they don't want to be upstaged this year. Yet just cause it pushes Sony to announce something doesn't mean it would be even close to ready anytime soon.

More like Apple buys Nintendo and brings the Appstore to Wii-U and all Iphone/Ipad apps works for the Wii-pad.

That'll overshadow the Next Xbox.

Forcing your competitor to reveal part of their hand before your hw is finalized might actually be a good thing.

Sony always do that, and customers do not complain (gafers do) when the actual hardware released is a huge downgrade from the original specification.

I was thinking MS would announe the next Xbox at CES, but now I have some doubts...
1 - nothing major has leaked. MS always is a leaked bucket.
2 - their focus right now is Windows 8. On PCs, tablets and phones. On consoles? Xbox 360 may fill the gap.

We had some leaks:

Perhaps Microsoft has actually kept their cards close this time around with the next XBOX and did a overhaul on who's trusted to know within the team (and outside partners), it's possible they've done the tactic of specific parties of knowing specific information so nothing huge could be leaked without the full picture. Can't wait for Monday!

I loled.

MS best strategy is to leverage its position in the console war.
Even though they come up with a less powerful console then PS4, history shows devs are willing to cut some corners, and the games will probably be on par.
Keeping game streaming from hard drive will make it my de facto console anyway.
Also i don't think Sony are ready for 2013.
SO, if MS manages to get a more powerful console than WiiU, they can market themselves as truly next-gen. Windows 8 and metro make for a competent entertainment plateform. And having the next XBOX under Christmas trees while Sony is forced to launch less than a year after strikes me as a coup.

But couldn't MS announcing it too early bring a Dreamcast scenario of sorts, with Sony making people wait? Announcing it at CES guarantees by E3 Sony will have a lot of stuff to show, even if it's just CG renders. Remaining silent would probably make Sony's E3 reveal a lot tamer, no?

like having superior hardware is helping Sony these days...
If MS is smart they will offer a robust plateform that feels next-gen from day one but offers legs to devs and is also built around non gaming entertainment so that families and hardcores wish to buy around launch and after. tHat won't be the case with nintendo as they play a different angle and don't have any recognition yet when it comes to providing non gaming entertainment (although it'zs a bit different in Japan). and Sony will once again have to test if the Playstation name is strong enough to remain competitive even though they are the latest to the fight.

The best that Sony can do to spoil a new Xbox is showing a lot of awesome looking new games for the PS3.

Slightly different scenario than the Dreamcast. In this case, with Wii U definitely coming out this year and having hardware that will atleast be comparable, MS launching closer to Nintendo would leave Sony the odd man out.

Sony would be a much more attractive takeover target than MS or Nintendo for anyone in the market of buying our large companies.

saw a job posting on ms website which seems to reference xbox live coming to ios and other devices. I know that kinectimals already made it onto ios but this seems to say that avatars etc will be making there way as well. wonder if anything like this will be metioned at ces

I'm just hoping to see announcements of better integration between 360/windows/smart phone. I would be shocked to hear anything new about console hardware.

I honestly doubt they'll announce the next xbox, but the only thing that gives me any percentage (small one) of belief, is the fact that they've done it before. But I just think they are going balls out on windows 8 and shit at this moment in time. I would love for them to do it though because that means the most epic E3 in years.

Just heard from someone who would know that a machine shop in Massachusetts is hiring and getting ramped up to start manufacturing a product for Microsoft. Didn't hear what the product is exactly but it's a component for an Xbox related project.

Didn't sound like it was for the next xbox(or any other unannounced project) but the people making components don't really need to know the truth on what the final project is so I guess you never know.

Going to try and see if I can get some more concrete info tomorrow.

So found out more info, good news and bad news.

Bad news is that it's not for the new xbox, it's for one of the components in Kinect.
Good news is they are moving that manufacturing to MA because they think the build quality in the overseas factory is subpar. I take that as a good sign they won't skimp on build quality in the new xbox whenever it gets made.

they should use the kinect momentum and push it hard on the PC, semi-open source that shit

i dont forsee anything with xbox 720 however

Nothing could overshadow a new Xbox. Wii U and PS4 could only be on par and they're the biggest things that could happen (short of your Apple buying Nintendo thing, which will never happen for lots of reasons).

I loled.

Being first doesn't necessarily mean being significantly less powerful, see 360 vs PS3. IMO as process improvements slow down, if anything the time between two consoles launch is likely to have less bearing on their power going forward. In 2005 a year was a lot bigger deal in tech terms than it will be in 2013...nowdays every downward node step is real struggle, prone to delays and the like.

The best that Sony can do to spoil a new Xbox is showing a lot of awesome looking new games for the PS3.

I doubt that, nothing overshadows the hype of a new console, at least among the crowd that posts on internet message boards aka us. Are people really going to be more excited about Last of Us than a new consoles games? Doubt it.

Xbox Live (though Xbox Companion) is already out (over a month) on iOS devices, including avatar support.

I expect an announcement and possibly a teaser trailer of what is possible, with official unveiling at e3 and launch in 2012. I expect Sony to also unveil announce PS4 at e3 with demo footage and launch in 2013.

The only hope I have for the next Xbox and Windows 8 (and I know this isn't going to happen, but I can dream) is a closer relationship to game ownership between the two systems. If I could buy a game and play it on my Xbox but have the option to play the PC version without buying another game, I'd be set. Same with XBLA; purchase once, play on either.

That's actually my biggest hope for the next gen.

yes that should be the way, cross platforms

i would say make xbl/windows 8 the platform and not the h/w it's on

Dont think smaller devs would like that.
Because why sell a product once when you can target two platforms.
