NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I just noticed in the recent SC5 thread images showing the new HRAP to have switches that swap Select/Start as well as L1+L2/L3+R3.

As somebody who had the former switch installed into his HRAP V3, I approve.

I got my V3 SA...

It's GLORIOUS. Though, I still suck at fighting games. I didn't notice any kind of "hollow" sound to the stick, compared to the SE housing. Sounds about the same, I also can't tell that it's apparently supposed to be lighter than other sticks. It has a nice weight to it and feels awesome in the lap. The ergonomic tilt in the wrist area is pleasantly comfortable, and the position of the start button is actually really fucking welcome, especially when training and pulling up menus and such...

Can't wait to play around again tomorrow!

!!!

It's about a pound lighter than old HRAPs and TEs are slightly heavier than those. The difference actually is felt more in moving the lever rather than moving the whole casing.

8 days later and USPS still has not delivered.

People wonder why i only buy from amazon and why i have amazon prime... this is why.

Also another gripe I have is with the artwork peeling off after excessive use or fading.

Does mad catz make a stick that is always in production? It seems like all of the stick have shorter production runs than say - the HRAP V3 SA.

I guess another way to ask - is mad catz going to make a more generic TE that has a longer production run?

^Read about what MarkMan speaks of on SRK and it's part of the reason I won't buy one. On another note, I can't wait for the Soul Calibur Hori to be my first stick of 2012.

This is a valid argument. But as someone who personally never uses the seventh and eighth buttons, I can't see myself pressing the start button by accident.

Yeah I have a Qanba and have never once accidentally hit the start button, and I have terrible execution. I doubt this is a real issue.

We are considering it. But at this time nothing we can announce.

BTW The SCV Hori is cool, I got mine on lock already :P

My hate for USPS continues. If the soul calibur stick is available on amazon before this stick arrives i'll just order that and ebay the other.

edit: finally got an update. should be here monday.

Just a precaution: Lizard Lick has been a bit shady lately. Friend ordered a board over a month and a half ago, and it's still back-ordered. They stopped answering his emails once he asked for a refund / cancel.

Same here. Had ordered before and everything went smooth and communication with Chad (the owner I think?) was fantastic. My last order though never shipped and Chad stopped answering emails. It's been some 3 months like that. Luckily I didn't pay yet.

I also had a similar experience with Lizard Lick recently. I had back-ordered some Seimitsu parts which should - according to their website - be shipped within 10 days MAX . After over a month of not hearing anything from them (I sent 3-4 emails they never replied to), I finally decided to ask them to cancel my order.

They finally replied a few days later, politely apologized for making me wait and cancelled+refunded my order (and even wished me Merry Christmas, which made me feel kinda bad for my borderline aggressive emails to them).

Kind of a weird situation though... Makes me think the site/owner might be going through a rough patch or something.

Well if you're looking for a alternative, I think Focus Attack is a great option. I've ordered from them several times and have always received my items. There were a couple of occasions where USPS was taking too long to send my package and I asked what was going on. JmanDMC(the guy who runs FA) responded to me every time I asked him something and was quick to do it.

Focus Attack is definitely my place for ordering Japanese parts. My only problem is that I currently have two American styled arcade cases and want to fill with IL and Happ parts. I'm so bummed, because I do want to hold out on cancelling my order at Lizard Lick, but it's been a long time.

Okay, with SCV about to hit I think I'm ready to ask for some advice on sticks again.

Right now I'm rocking a Hori FS3 for my PS3 and I think I'm ready to upgrade to one of the higher quality sticks.

Firstly: Is there any reason to get or not get a Real Arcade Pro, like this one?

Second: If I get a Tournament Edition, should I go ahead and get the MLG Stick or wait for the SCV-branded one? Are there any real differences between them? How are they better than the HRAPs?

Third: What's a good stick for the SNES?

1. Great stick. I have one and love it.

2. Both have the same exact arcade parts as the HRAP V3-SE. Heavier base and longer cable though. Only advantage of getting the SC branded one would be button layout and config working with SC by default. No messing with option menus to reconfig in-game while playing SC.

3. Threi recently posted a Happ SNES stick that looked solid as fuck. Dunno what the production run was on those though, they might be pretty scarce. If you prefer Japanese-style sticks, Capcom's CPSF is a decent one. It uses a real Seimitsu lever but the buttons are not very good.

So all of a sudden the buttons on my Madcatz TE stick are really sticky. It feels like something was spilled on them even though I haven't touched the stick for a while. Is there a good guide anywhere to cleaning buttons?

Open stick, remove button, disassemble as such and clean:

Pay particular attention to the sides of the plunger (top) and the inside of the rim (right).
Actuate the microswitch(left) and make sure there's no stickiness or non-linear resistance and reassemble.

is it easy as the other TE to replace the artwork? also does anybody know where to find a hrap3 SE for 360? tried ebay and amazon but they didnt have it :(

Yes it is easy. However a new style plexi will need to be done for this one since it uses a diff layout (Noir).

In regards to your second point, you mean the HRAP V3-SA right?

Cool TEKKEN display from a Sony event in Thailand...

I have all those sticks in there :D

Hee hee. Second from bottom, left side, the Tekken 4 stick with red buttons. That was my PS2 stick back in the days of VF4 Evo. Classic at the time, but used it recently and felt the Sanwas I use today have spoilt me! Good beginner stick for the money though...

How do I remove the microswitch from the rim?

I notice Hori sticks often have a suffix like SA for Sanwa or SE for Seimitsu...but what about if there is no suffix? Does that mean it is using some other type of parts? For instance the "Hori Real Arcade Pro EX" for Xbox 360. How to know what parts it uses if the vendor doesn't specify?

You read the product description on Hori's site to be certain. No SA prefix doesn't necessarily mean the buttons aren't Sanwa (all sticks with Siemitsu parts say SE).

Typically it means they have a Sanwa stick but shitty Hori clone buttons. That is the case with the PS2 HRAPs, Non-V3 PS3 HRAPs, and the HRAP EX you mentioned.

Thanks. I'm looking to get a stick for the 360 to play shmups on, and I've been reading how Seimitsu are great for shmups. Cheapest option I've seen so far is the Real Arcade Pro EX SE which Arcade Shock has for $170.

HRAP EX-SE is a great controller for shooters. It's my 2nd-favorite retail stick of all time, but I'm surprised it's selling for that much. Amazon had it as low as $80 at one time. I guess now it's all about supply and demand as they're not in stock anywhere else.

Oh wow, I had no clue. I guess I'll wait for a bit and see if I can get one cheaper.
