Dear lord, Evangelion Anima has gotten EVEN worse than when I last glanced over it. It's like, the most amazing piece of terrible fan fiction that's somehow being produced by GAINAX.

It features:
mutliple simultaneous Rei's, including loli variants.

Their are various pictures of the main female cast as children, including Maya and megane-girl. Classy.

All the kids are grown up which means Shinji is now Kaiji and Asuka gets big breasts, of course.

The events of the 2nd impact happened, and now everyone is horrible fanservice bait on a level that would make SHAFT blush.

Did I mention the new plugsuits are open at various places to show lots of skin?
Great, now I kinda want to see just how awful this is. :(

That's quite the, ehm, upgrade.

And anyway, it can't be worse than what I read of Angelic Days. Can it?
I don't know. Does Angelic Days have Mari and Rei, both as children, both wearing swimsuits, sitting together? Does it feature multiple variations of the female cast as children?

Yeah, that's pretty hard to beat.

Sounds better than Rebuild, am i right guys?

It might! Admittedly, I couldn't make it very far.

Probably no Mari, though, as it's older than that.

In a way, I'd rather see an anime version of Anima than more Rebuild. Why? Because Anima is way, way more ridiculous than anything in the original show or the new movies. It's so amazingly stupid that it might actually be entertaining. It features the 'Super-Evangelion' for christ's sakes. Also, this:

(Spoilers for the TV show and Evangelion Anima):
Rei can link mentally with the other 3 Rei clones and if she concentrates she can extract the sensation information of any particular clone

I guess Asuka's mecha is even funnier:
It is the single living entity created during the battle against Armaros on the Moon surface when Asuka got traces of some very ancient living organisms attached onto her and she merged and mixed up with EVA-02.
Her design retains a lot of details that look human and her appearance is better described as "a female giant cosplaying Eva" instead of just an Eva. She also displays clear feminine looks like having a hip-line or apparently wearing boots with high-heels. Because the long hair was transformed from the Allegorica Unit, she can fly on her own. Although she is still fitted with entry plug, inside Asuka is already gone. The armor part is different from that of Armaros, and is draped in sharp red color like EVA-02. When Shinji saw it, he said "As expected she really likes red, doesn't she?". But contrary to her appearance, she behaves like a baby who has little knowledge of everything, and she shows interest to tanks or lights and treat them like toys. Combined this with her flying ability as mentioned earlier, these became the main reasons why she was such a headache to staff in Nerv Japan.
As a convenient nickname, she was named "Crimson A1" but Hikari objected saying that "In order to return Asuka back to her former self, please call her name as Asuka.". And now every staff treats her as if she is Asuka
.
You couldn't make anything this stupid up.

You just want to see those upgraded Asuka chesticles lovingly animated with the glorious Gainax bounce. Admit it.

Sounds like a terrible trainwreck. Who lets these incompetent writers handle Eva licenses in such shamefully horrible ways?

I mean, I can understand that the fans want more eva, but at least put some effort into it. There's like 2 other Eva spinoffs in manga form that are equally shit

Whatever remains of Gainax probably doesn't care as long as they get dat sweet sweet money.

Still, from what I've read about it there appears to be an amazingly entertaining trainwreck in the making, like some kind of terrible Star Trek fanction combines with really nice mechanical designs.

It's even more amazing when you remember that anything made before the year 2000 is unwatchable by today's standards.

Exactly. It's an era of terribly sharp noses and awful animation where Takehito Koyasu was the voice actor in every damn show.
Apparently Asuka is no longer a tsundere in this one and is a sweet and cheerful girl. Downgrade total.
Anima spoilers - She also
merged with her Evangelion Unit.
Lol.

ABe works from Comiket for all four of us who care!

I love ABe's art. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE ITTTTTTTTTT.

Also i just watched Kill me baby, and i liked it. The artwork is really cute and simple but admittedlt terrible.
I will have fun with it but i bet it will be the most hated show this season. Its kind of really stupid but i like it anyway.

Well, it's not like they've suddenly become desperate and this work is something they'd never have considered doing before. They've been milking the crap out of the characters since, well, the show began. Admittedly they've gone a bit farther with this work than they have before, but it's not particularly surprising.

Symphogear 1

How much this show will appeal to anyone really seems to be based around whether you think Nana Mizuki is the bee's knees. If you like all her very similar sounding anisong records (which a lot of people do!) then you'll probably love that all the battle sequences are set to her songs.

Production values are merely adequate; while not completely without a style of its own, the style isn't particularly interesting (the way the show displays attack names on the screen, for instance, is not particularly clever or exciting, but I suppose it is at least a little different). The concert sequence goes for the same super-smooth animation that Haruhi, Kannagi etc. use for their dances, which I'm sure some people will like but I couldn't help wanting to see Satelight try and do something clever like their concert sequences for Macross F.

Anyway, opening "twist" aside there's little very interesting about Symphogear story-wise. The only real hook is to find out
how Hibiki dies and when - presumably she kills herself like Kanade did?
, but to get there you have to go through some halfway competent action sequences, a bit of fanservice and some moeblob schoolgirl hijinks first. So - an anime, then.

Doesn't that mean she's
merged with a mentally unstable half of her mothers soul... unless that shit's been changed in Anima???
Don't look at me, I don't come up with this crap. If you check out some of the stuff I've mentioned above I'm sure that you'll notice that it's all just ridiculous trash anyway.

Yeah, reading the EvaGeeks page on this shit is giving me a really bad headache so i'm just gonna try and forget this thing even exists.

*stares at the pretty ABe pictures*

Chihayafuru 7:
Taichi...like a boss. Great episode, and I loved seeing more focus on Taichi's development and showing off his skills. Those scenes with him at the end of the episode were just plain awesome.

Completely wrong. Haruhi and Kannagi have legit animation for their singing/dancing sequences; Symphogear's "super-smooth animation" is actually lazy CG rotoscope: the characters were animated in CG and then they had some poorly paid goons draw over the CG. It's really obvious in cuts like this. In the end, the result isn't nearly as pleasing or appealing as the concert scenes in the two previously mentioned shows.

And the concert sequences for Macross F are really dumb and ugly as hell. Sharon Apple remains the peak of anime concert sequences.

The main problem I have with ABe shows is that they never look quite as good as his concept art.

Bodacious Space Pirates 01: Those were the most derivative twenty-four minutes of animu I've watched since the first twenty minutes of Ben-To. It was a great exercise in how to take an rambunctious concept like pirates... in space! and make it as dull as possible. Things like CGI ships, CGI cars, CGI lamps, and CGI water are only a small part of a long and slow showcase of laziness, laziness, laziness.

The episode begins with
an expository piece about how pirates are legal now or some shit and some background info about the universe they live in, somehow managing to give it the importance of cavemen painting in walls. After that it is establishing shot after establishing shot of how the world in this animu is totally like hours, but in the future! You have stuff like iPads and sliding doors and magazines that go into the telly, which is indeed fantastical, but all stuff that's been done before. It has long ago lost its punch.
I stand again by my proposal that this would have been much more interesting with real pirates, if only because we would have been spared all of that.

I did like the opening song despite the awful singer's voice; it sounded bodacious. Otherwise, awful animation and direction and scripting (no girl randomly goes on a tangent about world history just because) is detrimental to what should be a fun ride. At least the next episode preview had explosions!

I thought it was rotoscoping but it looked so much like Hare Hare Yukai that I googled up an old Animesuki thread that suggested that virtually no-one used rotoscope in anime and these things were done with loads of inbetweening. I stand corrected!

I make the comparison here because it's Satelight animating Symphogear. Personally I like Frontier's concert sequences, particularly the ones in the movies (Niji-iro KumaKuma from Sayonara no Tsubasa is just lovely, but I can certainly agree to disagree

CG rotoscope is actually really common these days. Ufotable uses it all the time. For this scene in Kara no Kyoukai, for example, all the animation was done with CG models and then they had the artists draw over the models so that it would look 2D.
