The teams get home field advantage based on the rank that they finish in at the end of the season. Texans are ranked 3rd, Bengals ranked 6th in their conference. Houston gets home field

Seeds in the AFC:

1. New England
2. Baltimore
3. Houston
4. Denver
5. Pittsburgh
6. Cincinnati

Seeds 1 and 2 get byes in the first round.

Seed 3 plays Seed 6 at home (so in Houston)
Seed 4 plays Seed 5 at home (so in Denver)

I know you're new to the game, so hopefully this helps!

Edit: The only neutral location is the Super Bowl (and the one game a season in London and one preseason game in Canton I believe unless they stopped that). Every other game, including the playoffs, is at one of the two team's stadiums.

Playoff location is determined by how teams perform in the regular season and how they're seeded. Emphasis is placed on winning your division, and overall wins on top of that.
