Working from home is pretty great.

Whenever people come over I give them the "office tour" and do the "At Globex, we don't believe in walls!" thing.

Some people don't get it. Those people make The List.
 
It is not appropriate, but then again I'm sure my boss would not care as long as I get my work done. She would have champagne tasting lunches for staff...it is a weird place.

I knew that. :p Still weird (as zaptruder said) that it doesn't have the right correction, had to google 'scuicide' just to figure it out. :lol kill me because I don't know how to spell that word!!
 
I must admit that I'm going totally stir-crazy from working for myself at the moment. I'm fairly extroverted for a programmer, and my flatmate used to work nights and sleep all day, so it would sometimes be like 8pm before I spoke to another human-being properly, other than online. He's actually recovering from a broken jaw right now too so he's not even here anyway.

There's some stuff I love about it but after a while I start to really crave the joy of being able to turn a little to my right and have a conversation about the origins of the English language, slightly to my left and have a conversation about cricket, further to my left a conversation about Blizzard games or just look straight ahead and talk scuba diving.
 
Working at home is great for me since I'm pretty introverted. I love people but 8+ hours straight of working with people can be pretty tiring. I'd put up with it for a dream job, of course, but it just makes me exhausted.

Actually I'm thinking of teaching some language classes around here so I can have a bit of fun and meet new people for a few hours a week, just to have some variety from my normal job.

I can't fathom the idea of working at home. The temptation to just boot up Skyrim or catch up on Netflix is far too distracting. If not even for that, I'd go crazy without human contact. Posting on a forum can only get you so far. And posting on a forum like Neogaf means you'll never be productive.

I don't know how you do it. Also, get back to work.

This. I have a hard enough time staying motivated at work (hence my posting on GAF), if I were at home, I'd be fired within a week.

I know! I'd be thinking there is so much I could be doing right now instead of working, maybe that show on TV or syrf the interwebz or so many games etc etc. I'm a professional procrastinator. :(
 
Eh, if neogaf didn't existed, I'd probably be browsing some other forums wasting time at work. At least gaf is active. Gives me something to view when my brain is fried or I'm waiting on a report to download or something.

And yeah, I should get back to work!

I've grown up a multitasker when I need to be.

Right now I'm turning a PR in to an article, watching some guys speedrun Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and posting in other threads.

I'm on track to finish my work before the deadline, to boot.

I could get so rich doing that.

Thing is I'm so good at it I'd probably end up putting it off by doing some work or something. But then if I'm a professional procrastinator then that would be my work so, erm... what would I be doing? Um... confused.

But where does it end? You could make so much money by going in to a coma, but in order to enjoy it, you'd have to leave it and stop making as much.

It's definitely a difference between extroverts and introverts! I can go a few days without talking to anyone and not feel weird about it.

I'm pretty self motivate. If I do anything outside of work or study, I start to feel guilty and go back to it. Actually, before I took my Christmas vacation I had pretty much worked and studied for a month straight without doing anything like gaming or reading a novel. I'm not usually that extreme, but sometimes I get really into it...

The key to self-motivation for me is to care about my work. If I actually want the final product to succeed then I find it really easy to pull up my socks and just go for it, but I've worked on some stuff where I actually have to use boredom to motivate myself (i.e. I'm so bored I may as well do some work) so in those circumstances I'd rather be in an office where it's easy to cultivate the boredom necessary to get something done.

I liked the other one a lot, but it almost looked too good. If I hadn't read this thread and known who you were I would've thought it was just some fancy avatar and not you..

Come to think of it, this one looks like a stock photo too, :lol. Isn't this from an ad you did? Really like this one too, nice to change up.
 
Welp, I'm slow. I was wondering why some people had photos on their avatars lately. My avatar is already a photo tho, mowell.

I actually hate my current project, so I admit it's a little hard to get excited about it. In this case, it's more that I don't want to let down my team mates that keeps me motivated! Even though so far we're way ahead of schedule, i don't want to let them down.

GAF can be difficult. Actually, for awhile I had LeechBlock turned on to keep me away from GAF. Now I'm not visiting quite so much (except this thread) so I don't have to have it turned on all the time. But it was definitely helpful in getting away from distracting sites. And sometimes I DO need the break for at least ten minutes since translating is pretty mentally taxing.

Oh yeah, that definitely helps. I stayed in my last job about a year longer than I should have out of a feeling of obligation to the team I'd built and mentored over a few years. In the end as soon as I left they all started looking for other jobs anyway. So proud, it's like watching my little chicks leaving the nest.

Update: No coffee or sake, but pizza made by my wife nicely perked my day up.

Working at home is fine for me, I find I am much more productive. But I do have a dedicated office where I work to cut down on distraction. Gaf really helps me not feel so isolated and alone. If I did not check the threads in between moments at work, I'd probably feel like Gollum in his cave.
