I'm watching a History Channel Documentary about the Vietnam War narrated by Michael C. Hall. It feels just like an episode of Dexter.

I've already shared my thoughts on this Real Pic trend on the forums. More specifically this thread and the exposure it has on OT. Originally I thought this was good idea since it gave us all a reason to be less anonymous and a more tight knitted group. Now I feel like this whole has been blown way out of proportion and is having the opposite effect. It's fun to be able to recognize some of the gaffers here in other threads but it's so hard to hold a conversation in this thread that it's not memorable.

What peeves me the most though is how gaf can't behave themselves. I'm not just talking about creeper gaf, that's self-explanatory. It's the fucking try hards. Nothing annoys me more than some of the guys here whom are being so passive agressive when talking to girl gaf and even to some of the guys here. It's one thing to compliment a picture but it's another to bring it up when the picture isn't even relevant to the current conversation. Or calling attention to yourself by being crass in a girl gaf thread. Or how about this thread? Why does it even exist? It just reeks of desperation for attention.

It's not that I'm upset that people are flirting or are lurking at threads they don't belong. I'm guilty of these things myself. It'll even be cool if someone actually did ask someone out. I think it's just laughable when people aren't realizing that enough is enough.

I feel at least in the RP thread people are generally well behaved. Maybe I missed some creeping or more suggestive posts earlier, but it's honestly one of the safer places in gaf that I feel like coming back to. We have, not terribly deep perhaps, but decent conversations in here. I enjoy talking to everyone, and if we can all just keep any sexual overtones from taking over the thread, I think it's worth continuing.

The "Man-Gaf Advises Lady-Gaf" thread, on the other hand... It just seems like a bunch of guys shouting their graphic sexual preferences out loud at each other. It's like a thread version of the 'hand-job' advice that cuevas dropped in the Girl-Gaf thread. I tried posting in there about this, but was informed that the handjob instructional was 'misunderstood' and good advice regardless of its delivery system. :/ Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I'd rather stay in RP and hope it doesn't go the way of that thread.
 
I really can't stand any discussion of genitals on a web forum. And that's exactly what the ManGAF advises LadyGAF thread has turned into.

People you can discuss that stuff with:

1) A doctor
2) A S.O.

There's no #3.

Well, this thread in particular, I really don't see what the problem is. Yes there has been some people trolling, and yes there has been creepers, but what has really been that bad?

It almost seems like he is complaining about people joking around and having fun. That can't be it, surely?

To be honest, it sounded more like a rant that was aimed at the (admittedly shitty) ManGAF thread that was shoehorned to try and make some sense in this thread. I don't know what the two have to do with each other whatsoever.
 
I don't think I agree that the reduction in anonymity means less civility than normal in other threads. Man though I just checked that other thread out and it is intense.

That's why I thought I might have missed something while I was away. There have been some pretty quick dives into uncomfortable land in the past, but none recently (that I know of). I don't mean saying nice things about avatars, but more like turning a normal post and making it sexual. It hasn't happened in a while, but I haven't been on as much today or yesterday, so I may have missed something. I can see how perhaps the actions of that guy on Girl-Gaf followed by the Man-Advice thread coupled with the infrequent stuff on this thread might be disheartening to him. We'll find out when he comes back, I hope. I don't want anyone to go and don't want the thread turning creepy either.

Oop. Never mind. Jasonng is back. I see what you mean now, though. I don't know if it's RP's influence that's making that thread, but after that "What are your perceptions of people after RP" I wondered myself about that. What I do know is that it's creepy to post in that Man-Advice thread with my real picture.

Yeah I could not agree more. I also agree with H.Pro that this is one of the safer threads to attempt to converse in. It is just very difficult sometimes to keep consistent conversation going. It was easier in the beginning then declined with a few shining moments here and there. I do have this thread to thank for getting to know some really great people that I otherwise may have not have.

I know, I thought it was us that were supposed to watch the thread burn. Also, I will be posting more - I have been under the weather and just now got my groove back :P

My perceptions of most people after RP has been positive.
 
I was here in the beginning and I've made a few posts here and there since then. But this thread moves pretty fast and the only thread I can accompany that does so is the anime thread. Anybody mind telling me what happened that was so bad? I know the whole creeperGAF incident but did something else happen?

EDIT: I also read some of the ManGAF advice thread and yeah wow. Anything besides these two incidents though?

No. I was just pointing out that this thread has no topic, thus everything goes. I have liked this thread. He's complaining because he personally can't follow it, which somehow means it is bad. lol

Really, I'm loving this thread. Usually I'm only posting a little bit on GAF but it's pretty friendly/comfortable on here.

I'd be okay with trying it. I'm not all that great in sticking around in IRC though. Sometimes they can be a bigger distraction than GAF.


Whether or not real pics create more civility, it definitely comes down to certain types of people. The kind of people who stick around and participate in this thread are going to be of a certain type.
 
I also have to add that I managed to get a cool little E3 group ready this year thanks to this thread, and that's my final two cents :)

I like the fluctuation of topics, because it means you can almost always join in immediately without having to read back over dozens of pages to see if what you're posting isn't redundant. It does lead to more shallow discussions, but it also has the added bonus of being newcomer friendly. Nothing is more intimidating in a thread than seeing hundreds of posts and the same people talking about something that's already been chewed over every which way. Here you can just pop right in and be included very quickly.

Same. Like I said before, I didn't have any preconceived notions about anyone, and the only impression I have so far is that everyone is pretty cool.

Nothing bad, really. Things dipped into uncomfortable territory once or twice, but nothing that was lasting or particularly terrible. Opiate's finger hovers above the thread lock button sometimes, but I think we've been generally well behaved. Or we're trying to, at any rate. A few people were PMed unwanted messages, but they were either reported or dealt with somehow, I believe. Since then it's just been a fast-moving thread encompassing cats, chocolate, suspenders, life, scars, etc.

And JENGA. There is a JENGA battle brewing. :)

I see, well with real pictures in every post something like the PMs were bound to happen at one point or another along with sexual posts and whatnot. I'm glad the thread hasn't crashed and burned though since I thought the idea was interesting. Even better that there have been people here that had an easier time making friends. I'm sad that I missed the parts about suspenders, chocolate, life and scars though :(.

Damn it I missed Jenga too?!

Suspenders and ties chat was best chat. Yes you missed a few creepy messages that caused a few of us to drop out momentarily but it was dealt with swiftly.

Here's a question for you, RP-GAF: Are you a night person, or a morning person?

Personally, I'm 100% night person. My brain doesn't really switch on until at least 6pm. It was quite unfortunate for me in school, because no matter how much sleep I got I had a hard time paying attention (I did manage one or two night classes, fortunately.)

Sadly, even though I like the night, I actually prefer sunshine. Laying in the sun is one of my favorite things. I wish I was a morning person so I could experience more of it.
