How different than an NFL wildcard team winning the superbowl...well outside of the whole no playoff thing. You've had national champions that haven't won their conference championships.

You answered your own question--the non-playoff.

It is absolutely ludicrous that a team that can't win its own conference is gifted a non-playoff national championship spot.

exactly

a play off could easily have resulted in the same bullshit

Yeah, but those great games that we had earlier this week would have meant something. A tournament doesn't guarantee a great championship, but you wouldn't think of it as only a the championship game, but a great tournament, and there'd be no doubt about who deserves to be in the final game.

So only positive is my Comm professor might go easier on us this quarter since he'll be in a good mood? Bad news: Have to hear him gloat the rest of the quarter.

Exactly. If an 8-team playoff still resulted in these two teams and this game, I would be okay with it because it was decided on the field.

Is that worst performance in NC game in the modern era?

Seriously, LSU didn't put up 100 yards in offense.

Because few people doubt the legitimacy of any super bowl champ. If you don't win your division in the NFL, you have to beat four teams to win the super bowl, and win at least two road games (usually three road games), so if you can win four consecutive games against the four best teams in the NFL, with at least 2 on the road and probably 3 on the road, you deserv to be the champ.

Similarly.

An Oregon / Bama or Stanford / Bama championship game would have been compelling. I think that Bama would have won against any team with how they played on defense tonight, but a team that can pass and run for more than 4 yards would have been thrilling.

Alabama has to be #1 after how close the first game was and how dominating this performance was. LSU didn't even look like they belonged on the same field.

As much as I dislike Auburn, I do find it interesting that this little state has won 3 MNCs in a row.
