I must be missing something, does nobody else think it has great art? Perhaps it's my low standards at play here

Yes, us anime elitists don't consider anything by P.A. Works to be "great art". It's just average overly digital backgrounds which range from ugly to somewhat acceptable.

Toriko 1

Watched this on a whim. It's amusing to see a world so obsessed with food that the menu for the banquet at a conference of world leaders gets equal billing in the news with the conference itself. Of course, a world obsessed with food makes more sense than a world obsessed with, say, puzzles. I like the sense of adventure, the wild and fantastic creatures that inhabit this world, and Toriko's spirited personality. The little sidekick is annoying by comparison.

This first episode doesn't compel me to watch more the way those of Gintama or YYH did - there's no interesting characters introduced besides the protagonist and the hints at the larger plot and big villain are underwhelming. But I might check out some more down the line.

It gets better when the overarching plot kicks in, but it's still always about eating and fighting. Only thing that changes is more human opponents start to show up (REALLY disturbing ones) alongside the ridiculous beasts.

Though I didn't really expect you to like it much, but from your post, it sounds like you would really enjoy it by the time the first major arc starts around episode 9.

This looks interesting, is it a new series?

Yes.

Well, you are right about the digital backgrounds I guess. It's not really something that bothers me to be honest.

But, yeah i'm not hard to please when it comes to art.

Yup. Do check it out it's pretty good.

The first image looks good, it mostly looks painted and not overly digital.

The second image is ugly.

The third one is okay. It looks decently atmospheric, but the obviously digital elements hurt it.

But at least there's nothing as bad as Angel Beats, so that's something.

Michiko to Hatchin 4

Drunk Hatchin is best Hatchin.

Does anything REALLY epic ever happen? I mean I'm enjoying it to some extent and I absolutely love the style, but the content is just kind of "there" for me. Don't know if I want to continue with it.

Umm, it really does look great. No need to be meek.

I dropped it around ep 12. I never felt it to be going anywhere.

I just hit me that AnoNatsu is literally
the anime version of Super 8.

It's, you know, kind of a GAF thing I guess. I'm not really very knowledgeable around the technical aspects of anime so I feel confused when I get a negative response to my views.

Be proud of your eyes, bro; even if glorious me is the one hating on the stuff you like, don't let that take your enjoyment away.

Did I start watching Utena by mistake? Temio had a really weird choice for a VA too.

It was a fun comedy episode before the shit hits the fan.
Poor Rue-chan/Kraehe. She only wants to be loved! What started as a threatening figure has sorrowfully been degraded to a pathetic lackey that even Evil!Mytho mocks. She could not even seduce this poser post-modernist dork. Her gradual humiliation reminds me of Saionji, if we keep the Utena references close by.

I get the impression that Evil!Mytho is in fact just another facet of him and not someone else possessing him. Also, I laughed out loud when Fakir got jealous of Uzura implying that Ahiru is finding love on someone else. That is indeed a cute couple.
Another - 1

Lovely stuff by P.A works. The art is just out of the world.
Yeah, that's what 2D characters in CGI streets look like!

Another - 1

I also got a lot of Hinamizawa chills, love a good mystery.

The thing that bugs me about the town and school in Another, as compared to something like Hinamizawa, is that there's too obviously something wrong. The classmates are clearly trying to hide something from Koichi, but then why greet him the way they do? If I was introduced by a monotone teacher to a stone-faced classroom like that, I'd run out the door and take the next train out of town.

I think horror works better when a baseline of normality is established from which the descent into madness can happen.

Thanks; that gives me motivation to keep watching.

I'm starting to think of this as a universal truth.

No, the universal truth is that there's nothing as bad as Space Thunder Kids.

Was thinking this the entire time I was watching it haha.

On that subject

Ano Natsu 1

I enjoy a good romcom, so I could see myself getting into this. Neat premise, some fun characters who interacted well with each other, and it looks pretty good too.

True. In that respect, Higurashi worked really well as a horror.

As the resident guy who likes PA Works stuff, let me say that you shouldn't let it bother you, Noirulus. Everyone slags on everyone else's taste. We get along for the most part. Except for cosmic. Screw you cosmic.

Fun episode, actually got pretty intense for a moment. Rooks scene was hilarious though pretty unnecessary.
Im glad Kaito's not in the hospital for multiple episodes, back on his feet. And I was on the edge of my seat for Cubic's puzzle, so close!

No promises. Don't want another Index situation where I completely lost Jman's trust, lol.

To add to my points, the characters get much more interesting (imo) and varied. The only ones you will see consistently that are introduced in episode 1 are Komatsu and Toriko, and the former gets A LOT better. None are really very deep and have relatively cliche motivations, but I think that's overshadowed by their standard yet entertaining developments.

Really, I think the adventure aspect is one of the biggest reasons to watch. A recently introduced country has me wishing I lived in a fictional world for the first time since Balamb Garden in Final Fantasy 8. Definitely an awesome world.

Brave 10 1

Sengoku Basara this is not. Could still be good though. Ninjas with big swords are always a plus and the battle acrobatics are good enough for eye candy. Characters are kind of whatever, but at least Isanami is moe:

Will watch a few more to see where it goes. This really is the season of "could go either way".

QUALITY thread?

This is a screen capture I took a long time ago from Code Geass.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!

For reference sake, is it as bad as Mars of Destruction?

Man that's a tough one. Mars of Destruction has the more incredible sound-work, obviously, but it also has the advantage of being like ten minutes long. Space Thunder Kids has the advantage of being multiple Korean anime mashed together to form a weird ripoff of older mecha anime with the most incoherent plot ever not actually written, and tons of reused animation.

I thought the subtle transition from moeshit to axemurder was the whole appeal of Higurashi.

It is. But let's be clear, there's nothing subtle about it. It's quite blunt, as blunt as a baseball bat that you use to mercilessly bash out the brains of your harem members, or sometimes a child abuser. Or maybe I should say it's sharp, like a needle your harem member put in meatballs she made for you, or the knife someones uses to stab themselves in the head until they die. Or maybe it's more like the ripping sensation when your crazy Japanese family forces you to use a machine that tears off your own fingernails.
