PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

Big question is, can I NOT play US PSP games on my JP Vita? What am I doing wrong? If I cannot copy over, this was a waste of an import and it'll be going up on Ebay immediately.... :(

Unfortunately you have to wait for the US PSN to update & support the Vita, before that function is enabled.

So basically I need to wait until February 15th to see what's the deal on JP Vita and US PSP game compatibility.

I'll just open up a JP account and fiddle with the demos there until the curtain is pulled back.

Thanks guys.

I'm not entirely sure either- does anyone have a definitive answer to this? I'm going to try to copy over Chains of Olympus later tonight (from my brother's PS3 since mine yellowed not too long ago). I think it definitely has to do with the American store not up- you'll have to be signed into your US account to access games purchased. And maybe when it goes live, some of the licensing issues will be worked out (even with digital content?)

Edit: LET'S WAIT FOR FEBRUARY 15th!

In other news, I've been playing a ton of demos as well. Gravity Daze is completely stunning (I'm really enjoying taking in game demo screenshots but I've got a Mac so they need to roll out that Content Managing software asap!).

I've also had my Vita freeze twice when playing the Golden Abyss demo. I nearly freaked out but remembered to hold that Power button for 10 seconds. No issues since last night, but it was a little bit strange.

That's the thing though, I have my US profile up on my system already. The theory about a firmware/store update triggering things would make sense if I couldn't copy over movies and music already. So obviously my PS3 and the Vita are talking to each other already.

We'll see...

We've been over this already, guys. While you can use a U.S. account on a Vita right now, the store is not enabled, and so this means no American PSP games for the time being. When the Vita comes out in the States next month, you'll get your PSP games.

I'm pretty sure that the reason purchased movies work already is because no activation is necessary - it was done when you purchased and downloaded it (you didn't buy a license, you bought a copy; that is why you cannot redownload them if you lose them).
However, for games, it needs to check that you have access to the game in question from the PlayStation Store everytime you copy to a new device (you bought a license). Therefore, since the NA PSN Store isn't up for Vitas at the moment, you cannot copy your purchased games over yet.

Anyway, I signed into my main (NA) PSN account immediately so I missed out on all the Japanese demos... there's no way to switch to my Japanese account to check that stuff out without wiping my card and Uncharted progress, correct? :\

i got my Japan VITA, so what do i need to do to get started??

can i use my existing AU PSN account on it? so my Uncharted VITA trophies will sync with that account

and to access different stores, i just need to get multiple memory cards and setup different region PSN accounts, and swap cards whenver i want to access the stores?

Just preordered Wipeout, Ragnarok and Gravity Daze at Yodobashi Camera. They have a free release day delivery, so I think I'm set for the next two months.

Gravity Daze is fantastic one of my fav demo's will purchase for sure. Vita really need's more games like this and not port even though I love the ports :)

It's understandable since this is a big thread, but you guys really should try using the search feature. :P

You can switch accounts and you will not lose your Uncharted progress. Simply make sure NOT to choose the "format memory card" option when doing a factory reset.

You don't need multiple memory cards to access the different stores, but you cannot use content purchased on one account on another.

How are you charging it, out of interest. Just a port adaptor? I've never imported an overseas handheld to Australia before, and plan to when the Vita hits the US, are there no discrepancies with voltage at all?

Nope. The vita charger comes in 3 parts so all you need is either a adaptor converter or just a standard 8 figure plug.

charger is multi voltage. It comes with a detachable figure of 8 mains lead, so you can just replace that with an Australian plug no problem at all.

those of you having trouble getting PSP games running/transferred over on the vita, take note, i was able to get them transferred even though there is no singapore psn store, like how there is no US psn store yet.

and yet i still got them to work

i have a HK vita.

my main PSN account is singaporean.

all the PSP games were downloaded from the singaporean PSN store.

i had to redownload all my PSP games onto my PS3 because the 'old versions' (with 5 activations allowed) wont transfer over to the vita. once i download the 'new versions' (with only 2 allowable activations), it let me transfer them over.

the PSP games all appear in the content manager. was able to copy them all over to the vita except for three of them (def jam fight for new york, beats, EA replay)

i cant take any good shots of motorstorm running because i have a crap camera on my phone but here's the PSP games on the vita.

my vita has been acting oddly recently. Yesterday it wouldn't power on, even with a long press of the power button. Thinking it had drained the battery, I connected the charger and tried a long press of the power button. Seemed to wake it up but the battery was charged.

Put it to sleep last night, brought it into work today and again it won't wake up. connected the USB cable (don't have the mains charger here) and the orange light is flashing.

Any ideas?

Wonder if something has corrupted that is messing up its ability to wake up properly from sleep? Or its trying to connect to a network without success?

edit: flashing orange light apparantly means not enough power to turn on. But it was full last night and it was just in sleep?

While I understand that 'normal' USB won't charge it while the Vita is on (I think Ipad is similar), you'd think it'd support 2A USB chargers, which are more common these days for things like the ipad. The included charger can't be much more than that?

i have a EXCESSIVE USER moan

we are currently limited to 10 pages of icons regardless of memory card size. Whilst it's hard to fill a 32 gig card with Vita games, you can easily spill over with PCE, Neo Geo, PSP games - i've hit the limit on one card and i'm sure i've a ton of space left :/

whilst my situation is (probably) uncommon, once PS1 emu gets up and running i expect more people to start hitting the limit.

... i have multiple mem cards, but yeah - 32 gig for non-Vita storage now seems stupid.

+ rather nice
+ the will to fully exploit the console
+ online part does the job

- too much floating
- not easy to cross
- the VT formula is getting old

6/10

woah - not that i agree with the review but i love that Gamekult reviews are harsh. I like that. The scores have been low and the reviews tough. More please.

That review for virtua tennis is garbage. I don't play games excessively but in two weeks ive logged 50 hours into it... The gameplay feels better than ever and is the most complete version.

Sony needs to add in folders :<
But I imagine if push comes to shove, it'll just change to allowing more than 10 screens.

Quick question btw, been watching alot of vids on youtube, but I rarely see anyone exploring the live area alot. is it really useful? Or do you feel it's unused?

needs folders. or search. 10 screens is already too many to scroll through to find one little icon hiding away.

Surely that's because Singapore is the same region as Japan and HK, where the Vita is already out. It'll be the same with Canada/USA, and the same with all countries in Europe.

Just a small thing, your old games should still have 5 activations. Only content bought after the new TOS is limited to 2 activations.

ah yeah.

either way, you would still need to redownload the new version (it will show up as a bubble on the PS3 XMB) as opposed to the old version which would let you install on the XMB.

The blue and red BEAMS case is fucking sexy. I love me some BEAMS, and considering how $$$ that place usually is, that is a good price. Might pull the trigger.

You really think that? :<

Also, don't know if you've seen my post, Kyle, but yodobashi seems to offer a release date free delivery. I think it's cheaper than Tsutaya, but not as cheap as Amazon. Also, they have all the preorder bonuses for Ragnarok and Gravity Daze.

So what does one do when the blue PS logo is lit up but the machine won't power up? -_-;
Connect it to a power source, wait for the light to stop flashing orange and hold the power button for 30 sec - 1 min. Try it a few times and it should boot up. Something like that.

Wow... that's just crap. Sony really should fix that as soon as they can. The max number of pages should be unlimited or if that's not possible, the hard limit should be something excessive, like 50 pages.

another moan from me.

All games that you've put on the vita - including physical cards - have persistent icons on the vita dashboard. But you don't get any indication whether a game is currently available to play - i.e is the card in the vita? If you press start to play it, it'll shut down any previous game you're playing *before* telling you that you don't have the game inserted. (its warns you that the previous game will quit, but you press 'yes' because you want to play the new one).

I'd like some way for it to either indicate that a game is available to launch, or that it isn't. Don't mind which. Simple icon on the games homescreen thing would be enough. Not only would it stop me trying to launch games I don't have on me, it'd also help me know which games I can play without rooting through my bag for my card case.

maybe they could allow 'folders' where you could put a few icons/shortcuts to your games so you needn't to scroll 10 pages to find the game you want to play

I don't even have a Vita yet and I noticed this about the interface. Seems a little strange.

When you insert the game card, the icon starts jumping but it stops later and you really can't tell what's inside. Good idea right there, tweet it to yosp, maybe he'll listen.
