PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

another moan from me.

All games that you've put on the vita - including physical cards - have persistent icons on the vita dashboard. But you don't get any indication whether a game is currently available to play - i.e is the card in the vita? If you press start to play it, it'll shut down any previous game you're playing *before* telling you that you don't have the game inserted. (its warns you that the previous game will quit, but you press 'yes' because you want to play the new one).

I'd like some way for it to either indicate that a game is available to launch, or that it isn't. Don't mind which. Simple icon on the games homescreen thing would be enough. Not only would it stop me trying to launch games I don't have on me, it'd also help me know which games I can play without rooting through my bag for my card case.

And now that's just bizarre. There's no logical engineering reason to do that and it makes the ten page limit even worse.

maybe they could allow 'folders' where you could put a few icons/shortcuts to your games so you needn't to scroll 10 pages to find the game you want to play

Well that'd be useful too. Ideally, you'd want both the higher limit and folders.

Yes, there is a reason, that is the Near and online component. You can get game notifications, updates, gifts from other players, leatherboards, etc, without having the game in the Vita.

But, yes, that will require some way to organize stuff (and delete them). Or we'll reach that page limit after a few months of console use. As a first day plus, I have around 50 minis and 20 PSX games.

Regarding the 10 page limit, does deleting a game's icon delete the save data (for retail) or delete the whole game (for digital)?

Folders would be nice and hopefully they don't mess it up like on the PS3 where if you use folders everything must be in a folder

I'm pretty sure that the reason purchased movies work already is because no activation is necessary - it was done when you purchased and downloaded it (you didn't buy a license, you bought a copy; that is why you cannot redownload them if you lose them).
However, for games, it needs to check that you have access to the game in question from the PlayStation Store everytime you copy to a new device (you bought a license). Therefore, since the NA PSN Store isn't up for Vitas at the moment, you cannot copy your purchased games over yet.

Anyway, I signed into my main (NA) PSN account immediately so I missed out on all the Japanese demos... there's no way to switch to my Japanese account to check that stuff out without wiping my card and Uncharted progress, correct? :\

Looks like a sound theory! :)

Btw, my progress on MvsC3 was saved on the memory stick. I was able to resume my progress after I made a bogus JP account.

Surely that's because Singapore is the same region as Japan and HK, where the Vita is already out. It'll be the same with Canada/USA, and the same with all countries in Europe.

Nope the Singapore PSN store is still down. Japan and HK region and store content are totally different.

Also in Singapore the Vitas there are all parallel imports from HK. The Singapore official release should be the same date as US.

Hey, do people on PS3 still not see Vita users online in the friends list?
Or was that only during launch day PSN troubles?

I would think save data is still saved on the retail cart (even for games that need a mem card) and separately on the mem card for digital games. So removing the game icon and 'resetting it' that way won't affect saves.

Hopefully someone can confirm?

For those who have problems turning on their PSP Vita or having blue Leds while turning on. Do you own the PSP vita 3G/Wifi or Wifi version.

i have a EXCESSIVE USER moan

we are currently limited to 10 pages of icons regardless of memory card size. Whilst it's hard to fill a 32 gig card with Vita games, you can easily spill over with PCE, Neo Geo, PSP games - i've hit the limit on one card and i'm sure i've a ton of space left :/

It's not uncommon, how can they have a fix limit such a small limit on the pages without allowing the use of folders.... We should complain about this, I'm sure they can patch a firmware for this.

Folders are probably really the only answer since I do think anything over 10 pages is way too much to scroll through just find one thing. Though I guess they could also add a search feature or just some screen that'll list all the games you have.

From my limited time with Windows Phone 7 I like how they do it. Pin what you want to the front page and scroll over to get a list. It would be nice if you could scroll to the side and see seperate lists for Vita, Apps, PSP, Minis, PS1, etc...

Not a big fan of folders but I assume thats the way Sony will go. Never liked them on iOS. Part of it might be the 12 app limit per folder though

Do you have any of stuff on auto-start? Might want to disable all of them just to test it out.
It happened to me one or two times and I think my battery might have been dead that time, so I'm not really that great test subject.

Just ordered myself this pouch, should have done it from the start really. Too stupid carrying it around in a ziplock-bag as I do now :-P

I seem to remember a mention in the 8-4 podcast about that simple pouch being the most popular one, but I could be mistaken as I feel there are a ton of different pouches to choose from :-S

That's the one I want. Didn't the PSP include this exact one (in terms of style) at launch?

Yes, in the "Value Pack" there was a pouch, but I believe this one can fold around the Vita on both sides, and is not open in the end like the PSP-pouch was.

And I'm 99% sure that the US is getting this same pouch in the $40 "Starter Kit" that includes a screen protector, cleaning cloth and 4gb memory card as well.

I already have a Katamari-themed screen protector and a 4gb card so I didn't order that, could use a cleaning cloth though. Pre-ordered a 32gb card and the docking station from VG+ as I'm no hurry to get those atm.

Wow, for some reason I completely forgot about Sumioni. I hope that gets localized. Will definitely want to hear impressions if anyone here gets it next month.

XSEED announced that they picked up Sumioni for localization. A demo will be released on Japanese PSN later this month.

Sheesh, if the starter pack pouch is different, that means there's like 6-7 different "official" Sony cases/sleeves out there between the regions.

Just amusing to me.

Based off of the picture of the starter pack, it's a different case.

This is the US starter kit I'm referring to. Looks damn near identical to this.

yep yep, you're right. I was thinking of the Special edition pre-order crap. I just came back to the thread to EDIT in an apology, but you beat me to it.

Aren't there only 2 different pouches? There is the one in the starter pack which resembles the pouch that came with first generation PSP-1000s and then there's the really nifty one that has those weird straps, where a part of the case drops down and kind of just hangs there while you play the system. There was even a video made just for the second case I mentioned.

EDIT: This video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAcH_GaTNsY

Pretty sure every case after these two will only be "Officially Licensed" but made by 3rd parties such as Mad Catz and Pelican.

Nah, they have a lot more.

Leather Case (most expensive, also doubles as stand, and comes in white)

Soft Carry Case/Travel Pouch (also comes in Blue and White)

Carrying Case (from the video, also doubles as a stand)

Pouch (similar to PSP-1000 pouch, found in the US Starter pack or retail JPN)

Hard Case (only from the First Edition bundle)

So there's actually 5 made by Sony, with some extra color variants.

Sadly none of those look very appealing to me. I want something along the lines of the Logitech PSP case or just a cloth pouch like what Club Nintendo allows you to get.

Wow! I had no idea there were this many different cases. Maybe Sony should just go into the pouch business if the electronics business doesn't pan out.

Damn I want the Hard Case, but I don't want the First Edition bundle.
