Avatar in real time man, just you wait! ;PWhich we've been trying to tell you they are. The largest improvement you are likely to get next gen, and this is completely dependent on what hardware the systems are packing, is engines designed around tessellation. That is the only potential paradigm shift in realtime rendering going into next gen. Everything else is more of what made this current gen of games look good. Higher precision, but still the same underlying tech.
Until the tech sees that next huge shift all you are going to get is iteration on iteration. You guys with sky high expectations need to temper them. Or just skip next gen. Because the tech will be powerful, insanely so by any metric. But no where close to what some of you expect.
It's too bad Uncharted 3 isn't 1080p. So much detail just to get lost in the blurry mess that is 720p. Oh well, it's not like you'd notice it sitting 8ft away from your TV anyway...
You should totally check out the Wolfire games vlog:
Their animation techniques are awesome.

Cinema mode != reality
Considering one takes place in a massive open world with fully realtime lighting and other in comparatively tiny rooms with most of the lighting prebaked, it's a HUGE difference.Does that look like a Wii games to you? The difference between Wii and PS3 is a generational leap. Are you saying there's the same difference between this Uncharted pic you posted and Witcher 2 that there is between a Wii game and Uncharted? Is there magical details that only the PC elitists can see which do not exist to my weary eyes?
The dithering hurts my eyes. ;_;
I don't recall the game having bad dithering like that.
lol pc what do pc have minesweeper?
look at this

Not kidding. Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 were quite good, but it's still a very long way to realtime full global illumination raytracing voxel engines ...Better shadows is going to make next gen games, "next gen" if i see one more staircase on some fuckers face i will burn that POS to the ground.
Whenever I read these threads, I wonder if some of you guys even enjoy playing games. Anyone who thinks UC3 looks like shit can't really truly enjoy playing games.

Why did Nathan Drake have to ruin those nice set of shots with his blurry, derpy mug?Its Pranay btw

I believe that the end of Desktop PC's is very near. After watching CES. Its very clear that desktops are already dying. The future is glass/touch/audio command. I am very curious where will go from here. Where is the future of pc gaming headed? Will it be as customizable?

I think UC3 looks good at times, and bad other times, and I enjoy playing it. What say you?
yuck, I'll admit, Homefront is one of those rare games where a high end PC IQ really does wonders for the games overall visuals.
one of those rare games

PC's are powerful, we all know this. I like my PC, but I play my consoles considerably more for various reasons.
High IQ means jack and shit with bad art and animation. Witcher 2 IQ wise blows away UC3, but I can understand why someone would prefer the overall graphics package of UC3, because in the end it's pretty polished product.
Also, kind of funny when people want to talk up tech demos to show the power of the PC. Tech demos are great to look at, but I play "games".
give me a break, even at 720p the game rivals some of the PC's top tier regardless of what resolution the game is running at.
What will happen is that everyone who said The Witcher 2 wasn't all that, will suddenly act like the new consoles are bringing never before imagined visual fidelity.
PC graphics are shit right up until the moment they are reproduced by a console - then they are "stunning!"
Resolution magically doesn't matter now?
Resolution magically doesn't matter now?
Some games, sure, other games, no. Resistance 3 is a prime example of how you can still have a great looking game regardless of the IQ present.
I'm fairly sure he was saying that 720p console games rival the PC's best when the best is running at 1080p.
Mmmmhmm.

That said, if someone uses UC3 as a reason why console hardware shouldn't be updated, or as a demonstration of how close the gap between it and a high-end PC game is, then I'll call them on their bullshit.

Mmmmhmm.
Console-only gamers loooooooooooooove talking about resolution, AA, framerate etc. and will argue endlessly about minor differences between 360 and PS3 games...but then when PC is brought up, they suddenly couldn't care less about any of these since their favorite system just can't compare.
umm Yes, Resistance 3 does look great especially the effects in the game.
Dat lighting.

I wish I knew where I could find the falling snow gif, best looking falling snow I've ever seen in a game[/QUOTE]
All I'm seeing are the areas that could be better. :/
It's the downside of always working on high-end stuff with people pushing the envelope every day. The shadows are hurting actually my eyes in that loop.
Yes yes.
Very pretty game. Has nothing to do with what we're talking about, but thanks.

well fine then.
IMO yes, hardware wise there's no denying that PC's are a full generation ahead of current gen consoles, but software wise, well, I personally don't think so, but I can point you in the direction towards a few frothing mouths that think otherwise.

You need to play it, screens wont do justic to the game.
But actually playing PC games in order to make fair comparisons is a ridiculous idea, amirite?
worst looking level + old build demo

Well Resistance 3 IQ is terrible imo but the lighting and effects totally make up for it.
That screenshots is from a old build which did put off a lot of people
Okay, but so far the pro Resistance 3 crowd has produced one blurry GIF which is basically completely devoid of light for 95% of the scene. I'm willing to be convinced that the game is a looker despite having horrible IQ, if you can show me some media from the game which demonstrates the point you're making that would be a start.
I own the game and have played some of it. It looks fairly blurry in general (sub-720 res lol). It has some nice effects but it is not an amazing looking game technically (and has terrible IQ), and it doesn't run at 60FPS like their previous games. I do plan to play through the game sometime though in full.
Not going to find an unblurry shot given that it runs at 960x704 according to DF.
