Real Pic January!

Sorry. :( Believe me, I know how tough it is right now. To see company after company fall over or have layoffs is really terrible. No one is doing well, and no one is safe. It's been a rough couple of years for all of us (yourself included, it sounds). Have you looked at Atlus or some of the smaller MMO type companies (like Nexon)?

Atlus doesn't do development here either.

Nexon actually contacted me last year but I didn't have Java experience but I told them I can learn in a hurry and they said they'd get back to me.

I was one of the last survivors at my old company, they laid off something like 32 out of 40 employees and then held on for almost another year before finally going under.

People don't realize how massively the industry has shrunk, and new studios aren't really popping up in LA.

Have you thought about leaving LA if you could work for a different company, such as Atlas, in a different state? Might not be the optimal situation, but gotta find some form of work in this economy.

I'm employed, just not in the games industry. I've considered relocation but its not like that really has increased the number of opportunities.

I was just on board the chopper headed offshore and they turned it around due to bad weather. Fuck yeah.

Considering my days off start tomorrow I might just drive the 2 hours back home right now.

I quite enjoyed it. I'm so sad that I didn't get to see Aokigahara while I was in Japan. Although, getting lost there at night does not sound that pleasant.

I'm mostly thankful I did not come across an actual body.

Considering the statistics, it wasn't unlikely.

One of the things I found out later is that, the reason that one bed was covered in blood, is because the officers go get the (sometimes) fresh bodies, carry them to the station house, and put them on a bed to await the coroner. Since it's bad form to leave the body alone (so the soul does not awaken and become confused), they close the door and sit with the body in the windowless room until someone arrives to pick it up.

That must be the most off-putting job in the world.

Just read your story ShockingAlberto. I like how you keep people guessing what it's going to be about until the end, just like your previous one. Good suspense!

YIKES!

Don't have that many comics, but I was collecting Hellspawn and Metal Gear Solid, mainly because I'm a fan of Ashley Wood's work.

Having never seen a corpse in person before, I don't know how I'd react. I feel like it wouldn't really phase me too much but you never know. The stench has got to be terrible, though. Don't think I could do that job.

So, with this new company, funds are a little tight. We're both living off savings at the moment (though I do have the additional payment of the tail end of my current contract).

We were supposed to go grocery shopping, but I was hoping to stretch our current groceries to the weekend.

My mom called and said that the guests she invited canceled, and there was a bunch of fish curry, green pepper curry and some eggplant bharta that wasn't being eaten.

We totally went over to her place, had a great meal, and then brought back HUGE tupperware boxes of her cooking.

Good lord. My mom is a saint.

Your mom sounds amazing. And now I want some curry. At least I have some amazing pumpkin ice cream I'm enjoying right now.

My mom is seriously the best human on planet earth. I wish I could be as giving, empathetic and caring as my mother is.

Though she seemed kinda pissed at the people that didn't turn up.

Word of advice: when an Indian person invites you to their house for a meal, don't cancel the same day of the event. Indian food takes like, 5 hours of cooking time. Think hard before canceling.

That's awesome trin. Make that food last!

My poor mother still hopes I'd give up on music and magically decide to become an imam at a mosque. If she ever found out I'm an atheist it would probably destroy her Muslim heart. :(

Thankfully my parents are very supportive of anything I do, as long as I'm happy. :)

My mother is great, she has always been supportive of me no matter what I've wanted to do.

Now, if only I could convince her that I don't need quiiiiite so many baked goods. :/

I know that feeling. I tried not to take EVERYTHING in her fridge tonight, but my mom wouldn't have it.

The only problem with brown moms is that they are like jewish mother stereotypes to a creepily real extreme.

There's an old joke where a man calls his mother to wish her happy birthday. He goes "Mom, how are ya?"

She says "Not good, son. I haven't been able to eat in two weeks!"

He goes "Mom, why haven't you eaten in two weeks?!"

"Because," she says. "I didn't want my mouth to be full in case you called."

That level of crazy overprotection and supreme guilt-tripping is child's play to brown moms.

This is 100% true.

Brown moms are doting to a ridiculous degree.

But god dammit, they're really good at it.

I actually recently saw Moneyball and loved it. Didn't really realize that was Sorkin until I looked it up.

Aw, I missed morning-pain-GAF? Bother.

This coming evening, I leave for Boston. I'll be wearing stilts for ten hours or so. Hopefully that won't further mess up my knees or my right ankle, which have been acting up lately.

My happiness is slightly up, though: I decided to check back on the Happysad thread and found that my act of posting increased somebody's Happy by 0.1 (on account of the current avatar). I would specifically thank you guys for being the seed behind it all. :)
